I remember thinking during Suisei's 500k concert how amazing it was that she got various members to sing with her like a concert. Nowadays having guests for your anniversaries is standard practice
@@dwiatmika9563 Some members prefer that way for more collab guests. Some members are able to do it live but the only one that for sure does their concerts live is Suisei. But even then her special guest parts are pre-recorded (for obvious scheduling reasons).
I think the main factor is actually making music. There's only so much you can stand out with karaoke, with all the restrictions on what music you can sing. Suisei is releasing songs all the time, so is Calli.
A lot of the members also create originals and covers of songs. The thing that differentiates the "singers" in my opinion is a certain amount of specialized expertise in a certain segment. Eg. Calli with rapping, Suisei recently with producing, Ina with art, PolPol with innovative interpretations "Po", Bae with dancing?, etc. Additional assets that help reinforce these images are goods themed around music such as records, but at the end of the day it is streaming/sponsorships that is the main income generator and as such other than personal vanity I don't see the reason as to be "pigeonholed" as a singer as it leads to negative outcomes for the talent. eg. AZKI
Tbf it's cause the music doesn't really make enough money compared to the rest of the business that's the whole reason ink shut down and most companies like hololive make you pay for everything to make a song even though they might have in house studios and get it cheaper than going to that level of studio and paying to make an album without the backing of like a label to cover the charge for you streaming games or just chatting stuff is so much cheaper less production and earns donations subs sponsorships and ad revenue on the vods were songs get you 1 dollar on iTunes and the RUclips and Spotify ad revenue
imo Kanade is already doing great on imprinting us that she is a singer by regularly doing Karaoke streams. You can already feel her passion for singing by giving time for it.
Just doing a lot of karaoke isn't enough usually. Watame releases a lot of songs and has a lot of karaoke streams, but she's usually not one of the Holos you think about when someone asks for a singing Holo
@@Fishman465 totally agree, in fact I can say that I've sang more karaoke than any Vtuber on hololive just because of my age and how frequently i do it, but that will never raise my status into a SINGER.
I can't be the only person who discovered and got into Hololive BECAUSE of the music. Suisei and Sora I will always think of as spectacular music artists first- streamer second.
I discovered Hololive through some clipped karaoke covers, because you can't really get the gist from someone's vocal talent through MV's because of mixing. It was when I came across Suisei's karaoke I realized "oh they fr fr"
I mean I've discovered hololive through Roboco playing with a certain duck like a balloon in her 3D that same duck created the icon for best girl that was 5 years ago and gigguks video about vtubing didn't help at all.
When I am around people who don’t know holo/vtubers I play Alice&U because Risu’s voice is so good that you wouldnt even be able to tell she is an anime squirrel vtuber girl.
@@gundamgames6092Literally i could play what i want but as person who labeled 'has weird sense of music' i just can't play. Their eyes give me pressure so i use headset all the time
Very interesting conversation, thanks for translating! Suisei is definitely right, 3D and outfit reveals are really where they get to talk to people outside of their core audience, so it makes sense that people would base their reactions to you in that moment.
To be very honest, for people like Suisei, I recognize them as a singer because some day I randomly stumbled over their MV or clips when they sing and the moment the sing I thought 'HOLY SHIT, THE VOICE' usually after that I keep expecting a good singing from karaoke or cover or even originals. And after that, the constant quality is what made me see them as a singing Vtuber.
yep, as simple as that. she's an amazing singer and has a great voice. Calli isn't the best singer in holo, but she has a reputation because she is a _songwriter._ And also because she represents herself as such and is unique for being the only rapper in holo.
I think thats a big part to how she can be recognized as a singer but i think there is also an important part as to where she can get more recognized as a singer, and that is making EP and ALBUMS Because being realistics, an example of this is Calli, that despite the fact that she was seen as a amazing rapper (which meant she was a singer), what made people take her music seriously is the fact she started making EP and released an ALBUM, and i think part as to how Suisei became so big is because she also relased ALBUMS and EP As to why EP and ALBUMS are important, is becasue they are show you produce music seriously like any other artist, but also EP and ALBUMS make very accesible your songs to any person that normally uses music streaming apps (spotify, apple music or even youtube music itself) and I say this because is so easy to find artist that fit with your type of music with those apps, and ALBUMS are very easy to track and listen to So yeah, i would really enjoy if more holo members had albums, even more unknown vtubers can do this and get good value from it, like a vtuber i like a lot Ryugasaki Rene from 774, she has released amazing original EPs and her voice is so caracteristic and cool that defenetly will mesmerize you, and she streams in youtube and has genmates which are also very enterteining
Even Marine senchou had decent vocals on that Treasure Box MV of hers. The MVs after that didn't show much, but it's there. I just hope people could refrain from covering Ado's Show...it's just near impossible to get the same impact.
@@sh1leshk4 I don't think is bad, I like marines songs, all of them, she has a very good and characteristic voice, and the songs she produces I love them because of the "old" type of anime songs they are. And I think everybody can cover "Show", they can't cover it exactly like her but that's not the point, the point doesn't have to be to sing the same song as her, is to put your own style on it and give it a kind of new flavor, and some times that flavor is the voice itself or mixing the whole song. Don't overthink and try to compare singers, just enjoy it and have fun!
There's also the fact that Suisei booked Tokyo Garden Theater for a live concert on 28 Jan 2023, and filled every seat. I feel like that's a milestone. Not a peak, but a mile marker. Imagine how much work went into making that happen. A serious singer has serious ambitions. While everybody's success looks different, anyone outside can look at an individual's goals, and see what they've accomplished. I think ambition is the cornerstone. Ambition defines the way the audience perceives your passion. Suisei started with nothing, She did everything by herself. She drew and rigged her own character. She had a vision. She is winning. If I could bring up Eminem as an example, imagine that person on stage in the late 90's doing rap battles in little clubs with local yokels, while the performer on stage is seeing 10, 20, 30 years ahead. In their head they focus on victory and success, and committed to defeating the pressure and intensity, and although it may be strenuous, "knees weak," "vomit on his sweater", they are committed to making themselves victorious.
Maybe I had it backwards in my head the entire time. It felt like each talent was exploring what they wanted to pursue, whether that was art, music, let's plays, high level gameplay and other things, but to achieve a lot of it you had to have cash, and at the time the only way was to fall into the nominal pattern of streaming. Even AZKi at some point had to lightly pivot from only doing music-centric streams to other things as well, and that's working. But maybe there's no real pattern. It's just, appeal to the audience in a way that shows that you're interested in pursuing this specific thing at a time when the audience is the most captive (outfit reveals, anniversaries and birthdays, etc). So far, very insightful.
If you consider AZKi and Suisei then the key is to have a game identity. AZKi is the map lady with geoguesser and Suisei is the Tetris pro. So to be a singer in hololive you need a game you are good at.
@@kazedcat Sure, but I'd say that development of AZKi was considerably recent. And it's not like Tetris is the only thing that keeps Suisei in the minds of non-music fans. So this is why I originally held this thought in that yes, you can sing but you also have to do something to stand out. I'm challenging that thought in that you could just do what you want to do at a time when a new audience is captive, like during new outfit reveals or big announcements.
There are so many insanely talented singing vtubers with less than 500 viewers. You can’t be popular with singing only. Being entertaining is what usually makes someone stand out on this platform even if you’re mainly a singer.
In the vtuber world, it's good to have at least some gaming or other content to compliment your singing career. It helps make a connection with the audience and provides material for clippers among other things.
Suisei really makes a good point about 3D events. Like I remember in 2022 Hololive Concert, the HoloID girls were pretty much slept on from attention or at least not taken seriously, but when Moona and Risu were on stage, all eyes and ears was on them for the entire concert.
I mean what Suisei said is true she came from Inonaka so everyone already thinks of her as a singer not just a streamer. I used to think that seeing her play games on stream is just a bonus for us.
Regardless, they are idols and many of them joined to pursue a career in stage performance of some kind. Obviously streaming is a large part of what they do as well but singing and dancing is the passion of many of them. Some of the talents have brought themselves to tears talking about how happy they are to be able to sing and dance for people and how they want their fans to be proud of them. There's many avenues through this career path, thankfully.
Nerissa is also doing a pretty standout job of being seen as a singer but also adopted the horny schtick from Marine and Kiara as a secondary trait. She releases a lot of music and actively sings stuff on streams with more classical tone. She also leans into the diva aspect of her character which helps. Being seen as a singer/musician requires you to frame as much of your content as possible around this trait, whether it be karaoke, outfit reveals (much more few), or piano playing like Luna. This will keep your brand standard and keep you in that algorithm. Kanade definitely can adapt to this and be great in her craft.
Same with Calli, so much of her identity is tied into her music to the point that I feel its fair to say she is the most music out of EN. She had outfits based around her music, she releases so much either original stuff, collabs or covers. I guess to be seen as a singer in hololive you just need to release music constantly beyond just karaoke streams
It's rather interesting to see everyone's opinions and their way of being introduced to hololive. Suisei has a really good point where Hololive are seen as streamers instead of idols. But regardless, everybody has different preferences so thats where the talents benefit from the variety of content they produce instead of focusing on only one. Personally i discovered Hololive thanks to their music and stayed because their variety appeals to me. Found Calli's collab song, went to dig into Calli's music, found Suisei, listened, found Gen 4, and slowly chose my Oshi after discovering all of them. It's the different appeal that all members have that makes them great. For me personally, Suisei, Calli, Sora, Azki are seen as music artists. Whereas Towa, Watame, Bae etc. ( yall get the idea ) are seen as talents that have the ability to build a fanbase just from their singing , and others being streamers who enjoys singing as a hobby/ occasionally sings. Just personal opinion ^ so do take it with a pinch of salt 🙏
For me, rather than opinion, I just want to say that cover Corp must raising their standards for selecting new members, IF they want to keep yagoo's dream, and trying to rebuild their reputation as virtual idol agency They got a ton of assets right now, like a million dollars worth of equipment, and little of them are using it for the best purpose, but using it for another promotion instead😢
@@yoslauda4714 "Yagoo's Idol Dream" is pretty much just a meme that'd based on something he said being taken out of context. Yagoo's real dream is literally just that all the members have fun with their activities.
i got into hololive because they were streamers and even the ones who’s singing i like more then anything else like Suisei, Towa, Watame, Kanata, and IRyS i still wouldn’t be nearly as interested in if they were just virtual idols. Azki is a great example of this, i really liked her singing but can’t say i really became a fan until recently when she started to do more stuff like Geoguesser!
I think Watame had also this issue, she wanted to focus more on music than streaming but the reality was, she's more popular streaming, but now that she is this popular now she has the resources to focus on music events.
@@Fishman465 Was it only songs that got uploaded to her channel? There were a few singing streams, weren't there? Or am I remembering wrong. I don't really remember, since I only ever took a quick look at her channel a few times a few years ago when I decided to sub to every single Holo member.
@@Arashi257 Most of AZKi's early streams were collabs or were singing/chatting streams related to events that were up coming or had just happened. So she did stream early in her career but was not what most would think of as a streamer back then. Which makes sense because it wasn't her focus at the time.
This makes me happy nice clip, Suisei being a good senpai talking with Kanade. the 3D concerts really show off the music skills and Suisei used to release covers all the time I think that really planted her as The Singer☄ Even her concerts are always one upping each other with guests and new features
As much as I love watching everyone in Hololive Stream, They will always be Music-focused first for me, So Kanade doesn't need to worry about my "Vote" lol, I love how passionate she is with her singing, So wholesome ^_^ This clip/stream did make me realize though... Just HOW amazing Suisei really is, She's standardized so many things we take for granted nowadays in Hololive, She paved the way for so many people, I already loved her a ton, But this just made me appreciate her EVEN MORE xD
I still remember the first time I saw Suisei. I thought "How elegant she looks in that dress." Afterwards I continued watching the live 3D event. I don't remember which one it was. And then while she was on stage with the other girls she sang. It was incredible, I thought "What a good voice she has" I couldn't believe it I even said "how unfair, she is tremendously good at singing, she outshines the other singers" from there I conceived her as a singer who occasionally streams like the others XD
Do people lack reading comprehension that badly? She never said she wants to be just a singer. She said She wants people to see her singing as her MAIN attribute, MAIN, that means She does other stuff too but what She does best is singing. And Suisei is not saying She's not considered a good singer herself, just that it's difficult for new members to be viewed as good singers if theyr're doing the same everyone else does.
The literal translation of the name "音乃瀬 奏(Otonose Kanade)'' is "playing sounds,'' and the name is 100% music-based. This shows how passionate she is about music.
Because of how hololive aims for the bigger market, IMO is it hard for hololive members to be purely just focused on singing. There are tons of smaller vsingers that only streams karaoke, but they get a lot less viewers than the average hololive members.
it doesn't matter what your "primary ability" is, [anything] you do is going to require social skills and lots of miscellaneous other skills you'll need but never be compensated for because they're just "expected"
very great and detailed advice from her Dai-senpai. if you really want to make a name for yourself, you need to come up with a way to have the viewers permanently perceive you as a talent on a certain category. with the VCR GTA ending today, i've already seen Ao-kun (Hiodoshi Ao) having a good sense in multiplayer collabs. i'm already wishing that she'd take the plunge and always participate in big collab servers like the VCR GTA.
VCR did wonders for Aki Rose, for the longest she didn't have the highest views she'd be lucky to have 3k ppl watching, but then she did the VCR Ark Survival and for some reason got 20-30k viewers on each of those streams consistently. Then she went into VCR GTA and also consistently had 15-20k+ viewers during each stream.
@@pinkvillafantasy i'm actually one of those 20k viewers 🤗she talked about the reason after the Ark: Extinction streams. . Aki-chan said that she is honestly bad at games and only knows how to play a few games. she'd also get shy on inviting people to collabs because she didnt want to bother or be an inconvenience to them. . on the other hand, I came to like watching her because she's very honest, approachable & funny. she rarely flaunts the Hololive brand (Clutch-san had the best reaction) and never acts on a high horse. she understands the comedic bits and follows through them lewd or not😆she also treasures & appreciates everyone that she meets. i think that's why even with the huge subscriber number difference, she has double and even more viewers that Matsuri while playing on the VCR GTA. even Laplus was barely getting to 10k viewers and she's streaming on Twitch (no offense on the comparison, just giving an example)
i think it will be easier in future . number of solo lives are increasing , and regloss itself kinda has a responsibility to live up to the expectation of them being singers , so lets see how it turns out
The brand hololive is an entertainment company filled with idol vtubers/ streamers. For them to stand out as singers without being streamers in hololive will be tough. I think a good example for this will be Azki.
I think if any member wants to be seen as a singer and be successful with it, they need to basically have banger songs. Personally, idol songs do not really cut it because the genre is still very niche. Songs like Stellar Stellar is something that you know would be in music playlists regardless if they are an idol fan or not.
Im probably the minority here as I pretty much only follow hololive jp members that sings alot because I love music. I don't know if I'm the only one who does that. Yeah I am not really a vtuber fan but good music is always great to listen to :) They make banger covers and originals which is enough to make me stay for them.
For me personally the big thing that I use to identify singers is their albums. Calli and Suisei both have multiple albums out, which to me signals a big commitment to singing and music. Since I mostly listen on Spotify, covers don’t make as much of an impact on me since those aren’t on the service.
I don't think that works for everyone though. Mel, Mio and Kiara have released full albums and have more music than most Hololive members, and yet they don't get recognized as music-oriented members.
@@bennydelon Mel is more known as an ASMRtist like Noel. Few associate music with that, as idol music is anything but relaxing and cozy. Mio is literally from the Gamers generation. Unless she, say, composed midis or some other form of VGM, you don't see music as the main hustle of such a person (case in point, Okayu). Although with her dabbling into composing, and her constant ukulele practice, that's slowly changing. Kiara has her do-everything reputation working against her here. The flipside of being a jack of all trades is, you're also expected and preconceived to be a master of none of them. If there is one mastery she might be widely known for, is chatting (zatsu) and networking with others thanks to her tendency to spearhead contacts and wide knowledge of languages.
I'd like to think that Suisei, AZKi and IRyS were originally contracted to be a singer idol hence why most fans describes them as singers and from how the re-gloss girls were advertised at first as being a mainly singing idol group then i think it wouldn't be wrong to see them as singers too.
it's funny to read every comment, as my self. I found hololive because they are funny and entertaining to watch ( -like a comedian *ahem..*). And then I became more interested because 'wth.. these comedian can sing very well!'
what separates the singer persona and streamer in Hololive is whether you make more music content. Suisei and Calli may stream gaming and other stuff but they have more cover and original music compared to others.
something ive done in the last few months is adjust my thinking. a while back I used to think of suisei as a streamer and content creator but I came to a realization that that was just in my head and since ive been consciously refering to her as a singer and even when people ask me about the merch I have I always lead the explanation with "its merchandise for a singer I really like, she has a youtube channel and spotify and streams as well" or something along those lines.
Well while AZKi was and remains and amazing singer and music still constitutes a large section of her activities (about a quarter-ish of her most recent streams are karaokes) back when she was pretty much just doing music she was basically unknown. It was only when she was transferred to Hololive proper, doing Geoguessr and appearing in Hologra that her popularity rose.
@@gokbay3057I think her new model also helped. I have to admit, I never really paid attention to her until she got that one. Having a good streaming personality is nice, but I guess models really do help getting a vtuber exposure
It’s about centering most of your activities around music and having a commitment to singing well with objective vocal technique and pedagogy to be a singer. Frankly, if you don’t have the skill, then your reputation in it won’t spread. If you dab into the production side, then you’ll also be an artist / songwriter
Everyone in Holo eventually must be seen as musician. I hope we as fanbase can normalize this. I am quite fed up reading "when will he/she stream?" on Twitter even when the talents are putting out so many original songs and cover songs in a single year.
It's rather wholesome seeing Kanade ask Suisei for advice because many hoshiyomis know much Suisei worked REALLY hard to be at where she is today to the point that she became a mainstream musician. Whenever you think of a vtuber musician you'd probably think of Suisei especially in JP
Karaokes are a thing. Then there's also incorporating singing in to other things. For example the time Gura set up a campfire in Minecraft, picked up her ukulele and started singing while watching the in game sunrise. Just take the opportunities in game or have a break for a song or two.
I think seeing Suisei not knowing exactly what led to this is actually insightful, because there isn't a formula to achieve some sort of image, but some things are proven to be effective. It has to do with how we end up seeing them, and I think Kanade is slowly building up towards this, even though a big opportunity hasn't appeared yet.But a particular image is not as easy to quantify or achieve as the numbers,as there are more talents with big numbers than the ones who are generally seen as a singer.
The first thing I think of that sets Hololive apart from other agencies is that they’re all idols, which means they’re all singers and dancers, so Hololive is also a music agency. A large majority have original songs as well. Maybe it’s just me but I see them all as singers
This highlights the main question I've had ever since DEV_IS was announced as a separate, music-focused branch: _What makes them different enough from the rest of Hololive to set them apart like this?_ Up until now I haven't seen any real answer to that. As a casual viewer who mainly experiences HoloJP through clips I can't tell the difference between ReGLOSS' activities and those of other members. They don't even seem to be releasing that many songs compared to other music-focused talents like IRyS, Calli, Watame, Suisei herself or even Nerissa. I'm hoping they'll ramp it up with concerts as soon as they get their 3D models. That'll be their chance to stand out.
What's unfortunate is that it's not even a fair perception for streaming to overshadow being a singer. A singer is obviously not going to be performing every second of the day. In between performances they are going to live a normal life; talking to friends, having a hobby, playing games. Livestreaming is essentially turning those normal in between activities into entertainment. Just because they livestream normal activities doesn't make them less of a singer, they are just a singer who live streams.
she's the most professional gal ever. Despite all the success she's having as a singer, to the point of having eclipsed the original hololive singers, she does not lose the focus and the objectives that her agency expect from her
Personally, the amount of originals a talent puts out really tells me how serious they are about singing. Originals, however, are VERY expensive to produce as many holomems have mentioned, so an alternative would be covers. AZKi, Watame, Suisei, and Calli, for example, are people who I associate as being singing focused in hololive given how prolific they are. Song choices are important too. Like, nothing wrong with cutesy catchy songs, but when a talent constantly and consistently sings vocally challengung songs (and sing them well) people will notice. Overall, reputation takes time to establish, and Kanade is doing well so far. She and Chloe are two in JP that I am really watching for!
See here's the thing. Marine and Aqua has a lot of originals as well but in your comment alone you never identified them as singers so it's definitely more than just the number of original songs.
I feel like streaming is a way to help people who wouldn’t normally have an opinion on music. I know a lot of people who only listen to VGM and movie soundtracks so it’s easier to make connections with other things connected to your interests
So of all the things commmenter on this section. It should be narrowed down to, the talent needs something to BOOM out of, or the now terms is a VIRAL phase. Whatever it comes from, they need to use that momentum to associate and redirect their audience to brand themself as a "singer"
Ayame be like: MAJI KA ?!? nah.. but even ayame, that love to do karaoke streams back then, but eventually start to stream more of gameplay stream these days. but still, in hololive, they can do just one aspect. ayame there love to sing. mio love to talk. choco love ASMR & cooking only. AKI, even tho streaming game, but she can be like.. only focus on ARK for months XD edit: my point here, is just... THIS IS HOW SUI DOING HER STUFF. This may or may not apply well to other members. they're as a base, indeed a vtuber streamer. BUT they're idol. so they should be able to sing even just a basic singing skills
Yeah. One has to at least leaving a mark with their singing using their own original song. Like Suisei with Stellar Stellar and Calli with RIP. But then again, most holomembers had already released at least one original song, just that most of them failed to make a mark in their listeners mind or became trending enough to gather not just the interest of their fans but new listeners as well.
This scene looks like a young kohai shadowing her many-years-above-her senpai and asking her questions along the job. That is exactly what this is but this feels like one of the few rare moments in HL where it actually happens
tbh it's just about pumping out hit songs. Until last year Marine wasn't recognized as a singer but since then she's released so many bangers that people's image of her has changed.
I think people just went from seeing her as "horny pirate cosplayer" to "horny pirate cosplayer that makes songs". Do people actually see her as a singer now? If Suisei suddenly stops making songs her fans are definitely gonna notice, but how about Senchou fans? I think they're just gonna go "huh, that's odd" and continue on with their day. I think that's what seperates the singers and steeamers in Hololive. Just my opinion tho.
I think wanting to be seen and known for singing/music is somewhat of a catch-22 for new members. Singing/Producing original songs/covers costs a lot of money which you need to stream to get. The more songs you want to release the more money you need to make from streaming. It's difficult to just focus on music activities alone as we have anecdotes from many members with how expensive it can be to make original songs / covers. Maybe with regloss since they are different from a new hololive generation they will get more support financially with the music side of things.
I never thought of the woman with the Axe as a normal Streamer, she is definitely a singer in my opinion. Just listen to her songs and you cant think otherwise 😅😂❤🎉
I suppose career path is not linear in this industry (not like it is in many others), when they sign to become vtuber their primary objective is to entertain and capture the audience, singing is just 1 of the mean and recognized as a singing vtuber is probably the bi-product of that, she does alot of thing but her singing stands out the most kind of deal. If the activity is mainly monotonic then the fanbase can only grow so much.
tbf, i've known siuchan as a tetris player before being a singer.. i think its all about first impression and how you can keep that impression up, so i think singing in outfit reveal is a wise choice too.. also as far as i know suichan, in one way or another, will find a way to sing even when she's just gaming, a constantly reminder that she's a singer.. even when you are not watching her karaoke stream, you know that she sings
That's true, even when there is a talent who wants to focus on making music, fans still expect them to keep streaming games every day. If they don't stream then lots of strange rumors start to spread.
As most people say, Hololive talents are all comedians, but REGloss appears as a talent-themed group that focuses on music, but more and more day by day, they fall into the circle of comedians to lol (tbh all the talents are idols when there are anniversary events or concerts live performance) comedians will only be needed when becoming a regular streamer
You can tell how much the holomen want to sing by their original song they have. Hololive doesn't pay their vtuber for new song. Vtuber pay from their own pocket if they want it and they are not cheap. Even Bae mentioned the 1M yen she won isn't enough to make a single original song. If you see someone with a ton of original song, you can tell this person are really into it.
I think this is somewhat true, but there are members like Calli, Irys, or Nerissa that heavily branded themselves as singers. While I do consider them all to be streamers first, they definitely register as singers in my mind too. I think it's better to just not think of yourself as a single thing.
To be fair, DEV_IS is just about the closest we're gonna get to what INNK was as a specific unit of vtuber personalities who had strong vocalist leanings (I know Hololive has a specific label set up for musicians, but INNK was honestly both label and unit [or literally just AZKi had Suisei not gone there], and not just label, so Regloss is the closest we have right now). I think this makes it easier for someone like Kanade to really invest in pushing that music and vocalist aspect out there because DEV_IS is gonna seem a lot more music or idol-oriented than typical Hololive. But I guess she definitely still will struggle with instilling that image naturally because activities as a Hololive vtuber no matter what division are definitely always streaming-heavy. I actually hope that if ever DEV_IS expands or if Regloss continues their success that the management allows them to pursue further music activities over certain streaming duties to really bank on the fact that they're more music-focused than the rest of Hololive, because it's clear just Regloss alone is full of talent, let alone Kanade. I think Kanade is starting to bank on that as well since she's now got a healthy collection of songs on her channel and such, apart from Regloss releases. It will only take a matter of time until that 'musician' or singer image is well-established in the heads of those who know Kanade around Hololive. I really hope the best for Regloss because they've honestly been my favorite, which I didn't expect at first.
I'm the opposite and I always think of Hololive members as singers/idols first and streaming as their secondary thing. Mostly because l know how much off stream idol/singing work they do. Even those who aren't known as singers, I still consider them idols in their own way.

Calli with rapping, Suisei recently with producing, Ina with art, PolPol with innovative interpretations "Po", Bae with dancing?, etc. Additional assets that help reinforce these images are goods themed around music such as records, but at the end of the day it is streaming/sponsorships that is the main income generator and as such other than personal vanity I don't see the reason as to be "pigeonholed" as a singer as it leads to negative outcomes for the talent. eg. AZKI
@@Flight042 Calli also is a god damn good lyricist
@@axelaction2290 When someone says A is a good rapper, it is almost always synonymous with A is a good song/lyric writer.
Nerizzler is doing it, too... and she is doing it really really well done.
To add in what suisei said, having your albums released in stores and spotify helps with that singer image that Sora,AZki and Calli has.
Yeah. I start recognizing her as Main Stream singer from when her Stellar Stellar blew up
imo Kanade is already doing great on imprinting us that she is a singer by regularly doing Karaoke streams. You can already feel her passion for singing by giving time for it.
Kanade.. imprinting us..
I'll have that 69th thumbs up
Just doing a lot of karaoke isn't enough usually. Watame releases a lot of songs and has a lot of karaoke streams, but she's usually not one of the Holos you think about when someone asks for a singing Holo
For Kanade, i give her "Singer" just by watching her first karaoke stream. Its like no need explain
@sandspada I feel Watame needs an impact moment everyone could see ala Suisei's first take
@@Fishman465 totally agree, in fact I can say that I've sang more karaoke than any Vtuber on hololive just because of my age and how frequently i do it, but that will never raise my status into a SINGER.
I can't be the only person who discovered and got into Hololive BECAUSE of the music. Suisei and Sora I will always think of as spectacular music artists first- streamer second.

@@Kiriemysometimes, there are things you should keep to yourself lol
I got into hololive from okayu's turing love cover
I discovered Hololive through some clipped karaoke covers, because you can't really get the gist from someone's vocal talent through MV's because of mixing. It was when I came across Suisei's karaoke I realized "oh they fr fr"
I mean I've discovered hololive through Roboco playing with a certain duck like a balloon in her 3D that same duck created the icon for best girl that was 5 years ago and gigguks video about vtubing didn't help at all.
Kanade really look like she's Suisei little sister here
It's a hard cycle to break if even Watame can't break through that kind of impression. She did karaoke almost every night every week.
I normally think of Risu as a singer even though she streams more than anything.
i see ure a man of culture aswell . risu is like the hidden boss of singers in hololive lol .
When I am around people who don’t know holo/vtubers I play Alice&U because Risu’s voice is so good that you wouldnt even be able to tell she is an anime squirrel vtuber girl.
As someone who was brought here by a certain short featuring a squirrel (with a really mature voice) singing Ai no Scenario: She is indeed a singer.

Thanks for the zoom in on Kanade, so cuteeeee
Very interesting conversation, thanks for translating! Suisei is definitely right, 3D and outfit reveals are really where they get to talk to people outside of their core audience, so it makes sense that people would base their reactions to you in that moment.
To be very honest, for people like Suisei, I recognize them as a singer because some day I randomly stumbled over their MV or clips when they sing and the moment the sing I thought 'HOLY SHIT, THE VOICE'
usually after that I keep expecting a good singing from karaoke or cover or even originals.
I think thats a big part to how she can be recognized as a singer but i think there is also an important part as to where she can get more recognized as a singer, and that is making EP and ALBUMS
Because being realistics, an example of this is Calli, that despite the fact that she was seen as a amazing rapper (which meant she was a singer), what made people take her music seriously is the fact she started making EP and released an ALBUM, and i think part as to how Suisei became so big is because she also relased ALBUMS and EP
As to why EP and ALBUMS are important, is becasue they are show you produce music seriously like any other artist, but also EP and ALBUMS make very accesible your songs to any person that normally uses music streaming apps (spotify, apple music or even youtube music itself) and I say this because is so easy to find artist that fit with your type of music with those apps, and ALBUMS are very easy to track and listen to
So yeah, i would really enjoy if more holo members had albums, even more unknown vtubers can do this and get good value from it, like a vtuber i like a lot Ryugasaki Rene from 774, she has released amazing original EPs and her voice is so caracteristic and cool that defenetly will mesmerize you, and she streams in youtube and has genmates which are also very enterteining
@@rayo_0098
Never said they're bad, just not as good a showcase of Marine's vocal capability.
In their head they focus on victory and success, and committed to defeating the pressure and intensity, and although it may be strenuous, "knees weak," "vomit on his sweater", they are committed to making themselves victorious.
well she probably able to fill more than that lol
They're like the reserve in an army. When needed they'll turn into idols, otherwise their civilian occupation is comedian lol.
I used to think that seeing her play games on stream is just a bonus for us.
kanade is so funny and she is a insane singer
1:22
😮
Just personal opinion ^ so do take it with a pinch of salt
🙏
For me, rather than opinion, I just want to say that cover Corp must raising their standards for selecting new members, IF they want to keep yagoo's dream, and trying to rebuild their reputation as virtual idol agency
They got a ton of assets right now, like a million dollars worth of equipment, and little of them are using it for the best purpose, but using it for another promotion instead😢

I think Watame had also this issue, she wanted to focus more on music than streaming but the reality was, she's more popular streaming, but now that she is this popular now she has the resources to focus on music events.
Such is the struggle as opposite, Sora and AZki are trying to be more popular as streamers

I don't really remember, since I only ever took a quick look at her channel a few times a few years ago when I decided to sub to every single Holo member.
@@Arashi257 Most of AZKi's early streams were collabs or were singing/chatting streams related to events that were up coming or had just happened. This makes me happy nice clip, Suisei being a good senpai talking with Kanade. the 3D concerts really show off the music skills and Suisei used to release covers all the time I think that really planted her as The Singer☄ Even her concerts are always one upping each other with guests and new features
As much as I love watching everyone in Hololive Stream, They will always be Music-focused first for me, So Kanade doesn't need to worry about my "Vote" lol, I love how passionate she is with her singing, So wholesome ^_^
This clip/stream did make me realize though...

Suichan to Kanade: A to Apple desu.

still I'm glad to see Kanade getting advice from one of best singers of holo for sure.
This benefits Ao as well as Ririka to strengthen his image as a streamer.
Matsuri certainly found a way to distinguish herself during VCR GTA
If someone wants to distinguish themselves as a singer, VCR isn't going to do it.
great-great-grandma Suisei sharing experiences to the younguns...
I think suiseis original music from 3 years ago was definitely stand out and unique, not just the 500th passionless cover
i think it will be easier in future . number of solo lives are increasing , and regloss itself kinda has a responsibility to live up to the expectation of them being singers , so lets see how it turns out
The brand hololive is an entertainment company filled with idol vtubers/ streamers.
Just do what Suisei did just sing.
Leave audience in awe.
Refuse to elaborate.
If there is one mastery she might be widely known for, is chatting (zatsu) and networking with others thanks to her tendency to spearhead contacts and wide knowledge of languages.
nodding Kanade cute
I can imagine how the youngest member of Hololive asks advice from almost the oldest(?)
I'd like to think that Suisei, AZKi and IRyS were originally contracted to be a singer idol hence why most fans describes them as singers and from how the re-gloss girls were advertised at first as being a mainly singing idol group then i think it wouldn't be wrong to see them as singers too.
Nice point right there, they advertise it as another group outside hololive but didn't do anything to differ it from another holomem debut😮
@@yoslauda4714 Ye. They're effectively Hololive 7th Gen.
Kanade so cuteee
it's funny to read every comment, as my self. I found hololive because they are funny and entertaining to watch ( -like a comedian *ahem..*). And then I became more interested because 'wth.. these comedian can sing very well!'
Kanade : Wait, everyone is just a streamer?
Suisei : Always has been
Average Hololive member: Joined as a comedian, hoping to become a singer eventually.
Irys: Joined as a singer, with the intent of becoming a comedian.
They're been great at everything they've done so far!
Kanade: how can you be so popular
Suisei : idk
what separates the singer persona and streamer in Hololive is whether you make more music content.
I never realized how expressive Kanade’s model is.
Yes being recognized as a singer in hololive is very hard
I just realized that people recognize Azki more as a geoguessr onee san rather than a singer
Having a good streaming personality is nice, but I guess models really do help getting a vtuber exposure
amazing wisdom and advice from sui-chan!
It’s about centering most of your activities around music and having a commitment to singing well with objective vocal technique and pedagogy to be a singer. Frankly, if you don’t have the skill, then your reputation in it won’t spread. If you dab into the production side, then you’ll also be an artist / songwriter
i love their synergy.
They both has same background as hololive's singer. Would like to see Suisei & Kanade make song together
Everyone in Holo eventually must be seen as musician. I hope we as fanbase can normalize this. I am quite fed up reading "when will he/she stream?" on Twitter even when the talents are putting out so many original songs and cover songs in a single year.
And not just any streamers, they are vtubers. It can be easy to forget your main asset and performing/expressing as the character.
It's rather wholesome seeing Kanade ask Suisei for advice because many hoshiyomis know much Suisei worked REALLY hard to be at where she is today to the point that she became a mainstream musician. Whenever you think of a vtuber musician you'd probably think of Suisei especially in JP
It's simple, you must play singing games on stream. Rock Band vocal campaign on expert
This maybe unpopular opinion, but I always see them as streamers who pursues their music career and success.
This is how I see hololive as a whole
This highlights the main question I've had ever since DEV_IS was announced as a separate, music-focused branch: _What makes them different enough from the rest of Hololive to set them apart like this?_
Up until now I haven't seen any real answer to that.
Dang ngl Suisei must have felt old with that advice😂 I would have too
she's the most professional gal ever.
Translation note: haishinsha = a streamer
haishin = to stream
Nijika asking advice from Ryo?
Ayame be like: MAJI KA ?!?
nah.. but even ayame, that love to do karaoke streams back then, but eventually start to stream more of gameplay stream these days.
but still, in hololive, they can do just one aspect. ayame there love to sing. mio love to talk. choco love ASMR & cooking only.
AKI, even tho streaming game, but she can be like.. only focus on ARK for months XD
edit: my point here, is just... THIS IS HOW SUI DOING HER STUFF. This may or may not apply well to other members.
they're as a base, indeed a vtuber streamer. BUT they're idol. so they should be able to sing even just a basic singing skills
It's strange how it often feels the opposite. Streamers peaceing out for weeks because they've got a one hour concert to do
Obligations usually though for Niji and VSPO they've taken to music more as concerts make a nice deal
When i discovered next color planet- thats whem suisei was the legit singer for me.
Powerful vocals. I have a thing for those
This scene looks like a young kohai shadowing her many-years-above-her senpai and asking her questions along the job. That is exactly what this is but this feels like one of the few rare moments in HL where it actually happens
tbh it's just about pumping out hit songs. Until last year Marine wasn't recognized as a singer but since then she's released so many bangers that people's image of her has changed.
It's also about high impact moments like super high budge mvs (with what is spent in one, most could make 4 MVs)
Despite Marine's breakout success with her recent music, I still don't really think she has an image as a singer.
and she still isn't
@@dragoxphere3341 I feel that's due to being overshadowed by the MVs
Sui-chan is my oshi because she sings. Everything she does is in pursuit of her dream to be an idol singer.
I see them all as streamers that make music on the side. Because that's exactly what they do.
tbf, i've known siuchan as a tetris player before being a singer.. i think its all about first impression and how you can keep that impression up, so i think singing in outfit reveal is a wise choice too.. also as far as i know suichan, in one way or another, will find a way to sing even when she's just gaming, a constantly reminder that she's a singer.. even when you are not watching her karaoke stream, you know that she sings
That's true, even when there is a talent who wants to focus on making music, fans still expect them to keep streaming games every day.
If they don't stream then lots of strange rumors start to spread.
Suisei spending quality time with her and aquas daughter
As most people say, Hololive talents are all comedians, but REGloss appears as a talent-themed group that focuses on music, but more and more day by day, they fall into the circle of comedians to lol (tbh all the talents are idols when there are anniversary events or concerts live performance) comedians will only be needed when becoming a regular streamer
They seem more grassroots/from the start than anything (considering with HoloX, there's at least 2-3 who's had past lives)
For regloss girls, the blue one got new nickname "aho-kun" not only just ponkotsu🤣
i saw kanade as comedian just 3 seconds after her loading screen appear during her debut
Kanade japanese went from 0.5 to 0.75 😮
You can tell how much the holomen want to sing by their original song they have. Hololive doesn't pay their vtuber for new song. Vtuber pay from their own pocket if they want it and they are not cheap. Even Bae mentioned the 1M yen she won isn't enough to make a single original song.
If you see someone with a ton of original song, you can tell this person are really into it.
Despite what she says I think it varies from person to person.
She streams, but I wouldn't say that is the main part of her job.
There’s one way to do it but they won’t do it and we all know it
I think this is somewhat true, but there are members like Calli, Irys, or Nerissa that heavily branded themselves as singers.
