Years ago in the 1970's I used to go into Rex Judd's, a combined cycle and motorcycle dealers in Edgware and saw one of these along with a Nimbus and various other old 'bikes in the foyer... seem to recall one have woven wickerwork panniers and a shopping basket un the handlebars......
Saw one of these at the National Motorcycle Museum outside of Coventry in 1989 when in the UK...its one of the bikes that really sticks out from that museum visit.
Fabulous machine, handcrafted like they were in the old days, not mass produced. Very impressed that it will do 60mph too. More videos like this please !
Been into bikes since 1957, even in the profession for 15 or so years and this oldie is one that makes me sit up and take notice ! Awesome, especially for the time. The starting system could be a little nasty on the back, but with low compression maybe not so bad.
What the video does not make clear is just how advanced this bike is for 1912. Beside the obvious 4 cylinder engine, it has a hand-operated clutch, multi-speed gearbox, shaft drive with worm or bevel final-drive, rear suspension by four 1/4 elliptic springs. If it had a drum front brake, little would distinguish it from an early post-WW2 bike.
This is a fantastic bike, other than the punch to the stones to start the thing. I love your only criticism and will have to remember to use a bucket seat when I build my Edwardian motor cycle with a permanent side car
I'd subscribed to this channel first of all for this gentleman's beautyfull english!I'm from Romania and understand every letter of hi word's!I don't like Indian,Australian or other dialect's!This is pure English and I love it!
I've always loved the British motorcycles. They have a character to it. Be it a Triumph, Enfield or a Norton. Their modern avatars are quintessentially British and catapult you a hundred years back.
Wow! That is amazing for a motorcycle built the same year my Father was born and the Titanic unfortunately sunk. I had a 1959 Ariel Square 4 with the same displacement as the bike you tested only it’s almost 50 years between the two of them. Pretty substantial when you think about it.👍👍
Multi cylinder machine is in mind of motorcycle designing for hundred year so it relative now are multi cylinder engine both from western or eastern manufactures. Nice to see old pal.

I am from the Teutonic side of the channel... 😊, but this is truly a jewel of a motorcycle, and made in, then Britain! In many little ways very advanced for its days, 4 cylinders, water-cooled (but where's the valve-radio😊)! Very pretty! Would love to have one! Thank you so much for sharing...
I love it , a motorcycle for a gentleman and a lady . It had certainly a high price when it was new , but not as high as it is today . Thanks for the review :-)
I have just sent Sammy Miller a large photograph of a YALE motorcycle ( the Lock Company ) They produced motorcycles between 1902 - 1915. I found the picture here in Thailand, at a sale, where I live. It was a single cylinder, probably 500 cc but they also made a vee twin, probably 1000cc.
@@MichaelOZimmermannJCDECS - Don't joke about the valve-radio. I had an old VW Beetle, in fact I had several, but one in particular had an "ancient" valve-radio. It was a delight to show it of to any one looking at the car. Mine, after turning on, took some 30 to 45 seconds until it was "hot" enough to produce some sound other than static. Lovely piece of equipment that attracted many unsuspected smiles. :-) Cheers
What a singular masterpiece! I'm glad RUclips recommend this old vid. I guess Wilkinson went back to making swords and bayonets for the war. It's a shame they didn't get a motorcycle contract instead. I wonder how many still exist out of that small run. Did they make other models as well? That is probably the most valuable motorcycle in the world. P.S. I wish the vid was longer.
It’s great pleasure & surprise to see you have restored this machine to its originality and it works so well. One advice though, as this is 4 cylinder engine, the fuel consumption maybe enormous and yet didn’t see a big tank, but you can add a Hydrogen On Demand from fuel genie systems to go with this bike and you can double up your mileage while exhausting only water vapour. 😀😀
Another excellent video. Maybe you could do some videos of early BMW motorcycles? They are a fine product (yes, I'm biased, I have one) and it's rare to see anyone doing a ride on any of them, especially pre-war if any can be found.
The bike no doubt is a peace of wonderful & wonderful architecture & an epitome of ta great creation of the bygone era along with the machine the man Don Hall who is giving these illustration i must accept is a classic man for leaving such a sensible review that i love to watch his videos again & again- can the hoxtonmoto let us know a little more about the Rider in this video please ?
Call ancient aliens, this technology shouldn't exist in 1912. Looks like Doc brown came back and Jules Verned up a fictitious Inline 4 cylinder liter bike to time travel around in, the workmanship and design is incredible.
4 cylendar liquid cooled fan assisted engine. If War had not broke out wonder what was next. Disk brakes. Electronic ignition. Electric start. We got safety razors instead.
No words. A masterpiece of engineering. Compliments from Italy. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Many thanks for this video. Amazing motorcycle. Amazing talk, very
clear english pronunciation , easy to understand for foreigners.
Glad you liked it!
what a piece of classic narratives👍
Мотоцикл как произведение искусства.
One of the most interesting bikes featured on RUclips. The "handle" starter was a hoot.

Don has a fine, humorous and gentlemanly way about him. That has become a rare virtue nowadays.
And the engine fits him beautifully-of course!.

Goodness what a machine piece of art. Never seen a Wilkinson before and she is a beauty.

Thank you, I can certainly appreciate this engineering. Two wheel fun since 1971!

First I’ve seen this machine and I am absolutely in love with it. A modern version (reliable without compromising aesthetics) would be sooo sweet. 🤓
Lovely bike and the last comment had me in stitches ....danger of dropping off to sleep well done sir.
Looks like engineering art, beautiful machine.
I just found this channel. I adore it so much. Thank you.

A really beautiful bike. I liked the presentation of this gentleman machine by this very british gentleman.
What a wonderful motorcycle !
This has to be the most British review I've ever seen in my life
That Wilkinson is cool. You really have a fine sense of humour, too.

Wow! Where did all this engineering talent come from? There must have been some great schools and colleges; something missing today.
