Oh how lovely to listen to proper English about an American motorcycle. On top of that, also no irritating music to block out the narration and no over dramatising of the information. Thank you so much.
I am a simple man from Romania and I learn English from school ,but I have to say that this Gentleman spokes so accurate English that even I understand him verry well! Thank you sir!!!
I'm late to the party as ever. Many moons ago I owned a Norton 16h B4. This Indian, which predates the Norton by nearly 40 years, looks to be superior in almost every department! A real beauty, thanks for sharing.
Awesome bike. From the days that Indian was a forward looking company with a bend towards innovation. Indian was the king of American motorcycles until 1936 when Harley-Davidson started production of the overhead valve V-twin knucklehead. After that it was all downhill for Indian. To be fair Indian did try to innovate after WWII, but the machines didn't run well. Now those bikes are looked fondly on in a "ahead of their time" kind of way, but at the time they did more to hurt the company. I can understand why women would admire the bike. Indians were always made with a sense of style all the way to the end.

Harley won with torque of 45 degree cylinders. Indians 22 degree cylinders lost them government contracts. The new Polaris Indians are great!
Thanks for that dose of Indian. It was just what the doctor ordered. The tip on the ladies magnet is well appreciated as well. Cheers from the colonies across the pond.
I agree this bike has immense character seems to be way ahead of its time very ornately engineering it's beautiful and I'm sure it's worth a bit of coin
I recognise that little village near the monument! My Grandad used to rave about Indians, Brough Superiors, and Arial square 4's (though he said they used to overheat on the rear two cylinders).
Common compression ratios in this day were around 4:1. Kettering at GM came up with tetraethyl lead additives that allowed for "high compression" engines, maybe 7:1, around 1921. Unfortunately TEL is highly poisonous and was later removed from gasoline. But it did provide for huge performance increases that we all know and love. Unpaved roads were quite common in 1915. They didn't call them "adventure bikes".
Have now watched this and the Brough superior video. Subscribed. These are fantastic videos. I could watch this all day. And let's face it, for the large majority we'll never have the opportunity to ride these types of bikes. Cracking

A million thank yous to whom ever for taking the time to share with the rest of us.. Thanks to this video I will gladly take a dose of Indian too..
Beautifully produced video, and a lovely bike. One day soon, maybe sooner than we think, more people will watch quality programmes like this one n preference to terrestrial TV.
Beautiful bike, with a sweet-sounding engine. I assume it was a descendant of this machine that powered Burt Munro to the naturally-aspirated under-1,000cc world speed record at Bonneville in 1967, a record that still stands.
@@pashakdescilly7517 His achievement was all the more remarkable, then. Do you know how he enlarged his engine to 950cc? Did he use barrels from a larger engine? Find it hard to believe the originals could have been overbored by that much!
@@shanehnorman Burt cast his own heads and barrels. He also made cranks, rods, and pretty much everything else... by 1960 there was little left of the 1920 engine but the crank-cases. I haven't checked the numbers, but I understand that the Indian streamliner in Invercargill New Zealand (E Hayes department store) has the original frame (rather heavily modified), the original crank-cases, and the original gearbox cases. Just not much else from the bike he bought new in 1920. BTW Burt's record still stands - as a mark of respect for Burt, they retired the category he held the record for. It's not that his record could not be beaten, the record-breaking community just isn't going to do so.
@@shanehnorman Burt got the side-valve 600cc bike to do 90mph by 1938. Then he made an ohv conversion, making the casting patterns himself. It took a while to do 90 on the ohv-converted bike. Around 1950 the flywheels gave trouble, and he made his first new crankset and rods. It was later that he expanded the capacity of the engine, reaching that 950cc level in the mid '60s. Burt's achievements are all the more remarkable for the minimal equipment he had.
