@@SomeBlackGuy I would say that Invincible is more of a subversion of superhero comics than a straight satire like The Boys. Omni-Man is a subversion of the traditional Superman trope, wherein he wasn't raised on Earth and without learning the value of human life or sees his abilities as a tool for the greater good of those who in the Viltrimites eyes are beneath them. Omni-Man on the other hand came from a might-makes-right utopia run by a race of genocidal tyrants, but he eventually learns the value of life through his son and his time on Earth. It subverts tropes as we as the audience are getting a Superman story in reverse.
I heard Derrick say Invincible doesn’t take itself seriously and call it a satire and immediately skipped to the next question, my blood pressure can’t take one of these right now
Mark as Invincible represents Superman much closer than Omni Man. The series doesn't satirize the idea of superheroes so much as it celebrates it. Where The Boys is super nihilistic about the idea of powerful beings living in our world, Invincible treats superheroes differently
If you want legitimate atheist/humanist content, you should check out The Line. They do a bunch of call-in shows, and most of them have at least actually read the Bible, unlike the vast majority of Christians. They've got a big range of hosts, one medical doctor, on astrophysicist, a biology teacher working on his fifth degree, one in her doctorate program for anthropology, an ex-creationist bible enthusiast who's too humble to call himself an expert, several engineers, and so on. Recently there was a caller who talked about the old days of youtube atheists like TJKirk, and how far from that sort of content their shows (and the separate content those of them that also do youtube/tiktok) are.
Lost it at Derrick on 2:14:20. That voice lmao. This guy has a talent for voices imo. I need his Tom & Jerry scream as a phone ringtone. Not the original but I need Derrick's in particular. Sween too on even starting that lol.
derrick is mistaken about descriptions of heaven and hell in the bible. neither are described in much detail at all, with hell having less descriptions with much less detail. the rings of hell are actually from Dante transplanting the idea of the levels of hades from greek mythology as hell. in Dante's inferno, that is where common ideas of hell come from, in the bible its just described as a place without god. similarly, heaven gets a lot of descriptions in Dante's paradiso, but in the bible things are pretty vague. common belief even in christians has just sort of accepted Dante's divine comedy as canon, as most do not even realise that is where most of these ideas come from.
He's mistaken about most things about the bible to be honest, not knowing the difference between Dante's inferno and the bible while acting like you know about theology is funny.
When I think about that CEO's kids I keep thinking if this is their super-villain origin story. Are they gonna go like full on vindictive like "the poors killed my dad and then laughed about it online?" We need to keep an eye on those two.
Luigi's Lawyer: "Your Honor this Walmart photo developer is sworn by Customer-Developer Confidentiality. These photos can't be used as admissible evidence." Judge: "Then this case over... you're a free man Luigi Mangione."
You have stuff like the batman name joke and if mark will destroy amber when they sleep together which poke fun at the genre, but yea it still is a deconstruction over a satire
2:38:49 what if the King of Haphazard is actually dead and his family can't figure out his patreon password to end his subscription cuz they want to just end the dumb subscription and move on already. And you guys are just keeping him alive in memoriam.

I shook Soygone's hand and even said we were the real rebels... fucking ewwwwwww Although one of the organisers got drunk and told me that Sargon should be more fascist so at least I started my long road to recovery from that interaction.
I think movies that are uncomfortable and suspenseful definitely fall under horror. Horror doesnt just have to scare you. Midsommar isnt scary, but it left me feeling nauseated and sad so it succeeds
Invincible isn't a deconstruction of the superhero genre, it's a deconstruction. It aknowledges the criticisms and negatives deconstructive stories like Watchmen and The Boys, and makes an argument for the positive in spite of that. It's like thesis, anti-thesis, and synthesis in storytelling.
Derrick, the descriptions of Hell that include any detail are from Dante's inferno, the first in a trilogy. In the third book, Dante visits heaven and describes the rings up there. Ignant boy.
Sween is completely wrong about Mary Sue's. Anakin isn't a Mary Sue. Plenty of things go completely fucking wrong for him and he literally becomes a villain because of the pain his own master inflicted on him by giving him anxiety provoking dreams about his partner dying which caused him to feel the need to submit to the most evil force user in the universe. He gets the most tragic, unhappy ending imaginable. If anything, the plot is contrived to all-but destroy him. He IS a super powerful force user and sabre duellist, but that does absolutely nothing to save him from the weakness he suffers from and inevitably falls to. Maybe you have a better case with Luke, as a very traditional, naturally talented character who wins in the end despite the odds. But even then, to call a character a Mary Sue, the plot has to be too contrived in the hero's favour, the character faces too little adversity and Rey Palpatine fits that bill perfectly. Luke, while close, fits considerably less so.
@JowoeBunchaNumbers being jesus doesnt make you a mary sue. The point of anakin is that even someone as all power as a christ like figure can still make mistakes due to grief, loss, and the failure of a system. A Mary Sue wouldnt fail, suffer, and make mistakes to nearly the same degree, if at all.
I don't think Luke fits it at all given that he has genuine struggles and actually progresses in power throughout the original trilogy. There's small moments in A New Hope like his training with Ben that show he's fairly inexperienced but has potential. Hell, even the Death Star run doesn't go perfect for him. I think Rey could have escaped being referred to as a Mary Sue but the future movies after TFA didn't help
@@BasedMexx Yeah, I agree. Luke actually fails during training and has to improve, despite clearly showing natural power and talent. Not a candidate for a Mary Sue
No idea if it was this episode or the last ‘cause I’ve been flipping between the two, but if y’all want an artist who has a consistent discography (in quality) who is actually a legend, check out Tom Waits. Dude has been making music since 1973 or earlier and everything is bangers

All musicians best work happens in their first 3 or 4 albums. Its when they are truly busting their ass trying to make it in the business, and follow up their 1st commercial success albums. But past that it almost always feels sort of phoned in, just average, or decent at best and like they are just clocking in, cause they no longer have that same hunger they once had.

To be fair to Luigi, he could have been _at_ the meeting the guy was going to. Now everyone else at that meeting has a new perspective on life and might be _slightly_ less evil.
