    Inside isn't just a comedy show. It's an artistic, autobiographical documentary about the struggles of quarantine with a fragile mental health. It's beautiful, it's funny, it's sad; it's art.

      You know people CAN quarantine together... His isolation was self-imposed... He didn't think the special would take very long... he was wrong, and then he dug in... Bo struggled more with stubbornness than quarantine... He literally took his ball and went home.... Let's not put him up on a cross... He has that covered ^_^

      I related to it more on the level of being stuck in your head creatively. The whole special felt like it was using quarantine as a metaphor for the creative process with nothing going smoothly and being stuck in your own head for the majority of that. It also works on the surface level but this what I took away from it.

    In all the marketing Bo did himself for this special, he never referred to it as a comedy special. He calls himself a "former" comedian in the special itself. People going in expecting regular funny bo songs will be very uncomfortable. This was his best work hands down.

      I started listening to it non-stop today since he released it on youtube. It really is the most accurate song describing the very unique feeling that the internet gives today times. The line "Apathy is a tragedy, boredom is a crime" is maybe my favorite line from the special.

    • @Vanstrudel
      @Vanstrudel 3 года назад +3

      I agree, I was born in 1995, been using the internet since probably 2000. So I haven't been here since the beginning of the internet, but I've certainly remember the experience that was the rapid development in the 2000s and the explosion of it's userbase throughout the 2010s. There's so much more to it that I'm too dumb to describe, but Bo made it both nostalgic and maniacal at the same time, which described it perfectly for me. It's also just a good ass song, it's been stuck in my head too.

    I don't if anyone will see this but I loved possible ending song. It feels as if he saying goodbye not only to the audience but to the thing that kept him sane for months , the thing that he used to love to do before it gave him panic attacks. Like he's saying goodbye to comedy . Telling the audience if you think it's easy then you do it yourselves.

  • @annamata4758
    @annamata4758 3 года назад +553

    I wish people would stop calling it a commentary on quarantine. Sure, quarantining had it's role in this. But this is about his own mental health, about his agoraphobia, and showcasing the process of content creation and how that process, people's demands, and his conflicted feelings about his duty to educate his audience had all exacerbated his declining health; it's sews the narrative of being a recluse, and why he left the scene and stayed 'Inside' for so long, over stuff he -was- feeling, just as much as he is feeling again. To call it quarantine commentary is just conflating the issues, and frankly misses the mark.

    • @BirdieDev
      @BirdieDev 3 года назад +9

      Totally agree, add onto that impending doom of climate change and lack of true, meaningful action from world leadership, especially domestic leadership. And that's only if we don't destroy ourselves from infighting exacerbated by the internet before that. It feels like the world is already hopeless, and we've reached the final fizzling out of human history. Couple with that declining mental health and sanity and you have this absolute marvel of a film.

    • @annamata4758
      @annamata4758 3 года назад +6

      @@BirdieDev oh, definitely. That was much of what I was implying when I referenced his duty to educate. On top of him growing to feel like he needs to put those in, which he seems to think the comedy audience is actively disinterested in, those things are also just happening. Which is a burden in it's own right.
      And all of those things are such a huge burden to be aware of, which are truly threatening to us all, and that knowledge makes it so much more stressful when you (him here) feel like you're (he) is alone with this knowledge among nations of ignorance and disinterest.
      He seems to recognize he has the platform to cause change, and that (and the crisis is causes him) was apparent in this special. It started as a comedy, and it seemed like he literally just dropped it so that he could pivot into the experience we got through the second half to the end.

    • @BirdieDev

      @@annamata4758 Completely agree, yeah. This special was one of the only experiences I've had in many years where I didn't feel alone in my view of how truly brittle our world is. It's felt for so long that we've all been zombie-walking to our demise, and no matter what you say people will keep walking and act like they can't hear you. It feels like maybe people are waking up, and Bo is helping with that, but it still feels too late.

    its amazing to see how far hes come, and he far he'll go based on this one alone. if being the spotlight gives anxiety, and not working or trying gives depression, everyone should be more than happy to see bo pursue writing and directing from the other side of the camera.
    also, there were TWO jeff bezoz songs, which i would actually like to hear which one you liked more
    1. the ghillie suit one,
    or
    2. the 1964 one (which i personally fucking love because of how hard i laughed)

    With some tweaking, hands up or all eyes on me has potential to be a hit pop song with that fire chorus.

      @@TotallySauceome yeah it’s just not quite as memorable as some of the other one’s because it doesn’t have a special video

    I watched the special with my brother and it uncomfortable in the best way possible. Didn't know what to expected going in and I still can't put a finger on exactly what I got out of it but get something out of it I did!
