My daughter just now told me we could make shields out of soda bottles and I thought it was a great idea. So we looked it up and found this video. Thanks for showing us how!
If this keeps up were all going to look like a post apocalypse movie just to shopping!!!! Well be making suits out of shower curtain and pop bottle masks like mary winstead did in 10 clover field lane...great vid now I have a use for all the pop bottles I have in bags.
In times like this ,look how our brains work on ideas for this Pandemic. We don't understand we all our Blessed with a talent .So happy we have the technology to show case it for the world to help . Thank you This is awsome . God Bless..🤗🤗😊😉
I really like this project. Especially how it hugs the bottom of the face area which helps minimize your risks for contracting harmful droplets. Unfortunately, most store bought face shields don't provide that.Thank you and keep those projects coming!
Thank you for this video. I followed your instructions and just made a mask for my mom. I'm grateful for your help and admire your genius. We give all kinds of awards to useless celebrities in this country when we really should be rewarding people like you. You have talent and brains and which you share to help people. Thank you.
So sorry I made a typo in the last sentence! It should have read You have talent and brains which you readily share to help people. Sorry I didn't proof more carefully!
You can also smooth the cut edges by running them across an iron. If you keep the plastic moving, it curls just a bit and it doesn't stick to the iron at all.
@@greenrobot5 Sorry you had a problem. I've done dozens of bottles with no problems. Maybe the temperature was set higher than mine. There are videos here on RUclips (which is where I learned the trick) that might help.
Thank you so much Jonny for this great idea. I am sure many people would find this very useful! Keep those jumps at the beginning of the videos coming, brother!
You're welcome John! Yes, I'm hoping this will help some in need who are looking for protection. I know it's hard to get your hands on anything like that right now. & thanks for the nice comment! 👍
OurHumanPlanet has a similar version of this but she dipped the mask in a detergent + water mix, then dried it, which helps prevent the plastic from fogging from your breath. You should try it!
Stretch ties substitute... Walmart hair accessories section. Foam substitute 18 x 18 x 2 inch foam cushion cut into strips with VERY FINE TEETH kitchen knife also from your friendly neighbor 😜 WALLY'S craft department . Try Elmer's glue to stick the foam onto the shield.
That's what I initially thought...but you'll need both. You'll still need a mask to filter the incoming air and you'll need the shield to protect your face and the mask from moisture. A mask and a shield complement were the other lacks.
Excellent thinking I applaud this man for his smart concept and affordable idea, when price gauging has become normal practice by some selfish people His idea will help save money for some people'
First off thank for saving lives try ordering this stuff weeks waiting.I f i may a few suggestions as i have made several but i keep learning new things. If you add another pieace of weather seak would that be better protection? I read the virus can stay air borne for up to 3 hours.and remain on surfaces for 3 days. Now when removing i akways wipe face side hand santizer and top and inside also try to keep hands away from exsposed areas until you clean at least 70 per cent achool hand santizer as i read.Thank you i learned from you god bless
Brilliant!! But take a good look at the bottle you are using. I bought Coca Cola because I don't like Pepsi. The Coke bottle will not do! I thought the Coke bottle's shape wouldn't be a problem but I didn't notice the vertical ripples that cause visual distortion.
Awesome idea! I'm going to try my own variation. I drink coke bottles and they have some weird shape to them, in Toronto Canada. I may try to iron them flat :p Iive been saving most of my red coke lids to eventually grind down and make my own red 3d printing filament wire/spools from it.
Awesome I was Thinking of Doing this Been saving Bottles for crafts & Have Pool noodles Twine cooking & Craft Twine had for crafts as looking at bottles knew right shape. So looked DYI ideas for this could not find till searches saying/ asking if could use Poole noodles saw your video this is an WmAwesome Idea only thing I have Mellon’s hello bottles Was looking ideas cause can’t wear masks long and my job re opens next month unless things change.
Fantastic! Clear and easy to follow instructions. Thanks so much. Does anyone know if this face shield will work for people who have to wear glasses and perhaps the foam strip will have to be doubled or tripled to accommodate the glasses?

Very smart and unique

I saw a picture of someone in another country wearing a bottle face cover about a month ago. Thought it was silly, but actually smart.
Yeah...I saw that one also of the 5 gallon bottle...terranauts.
This actually works I’m impressed!
Does it fog up when one talks?

That worked out better then I thought
Yeah I still use that original one I made months later. Even used it when I was grinding some metal
If you have anyone asking how to prevent it from fogging up use shaving cream and wipe off.
Thanks Ivan, I'd forgot about that trick! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
@@JonnyDIY right on😊
yes u r right. i am cleaning bathroom mirrors in this way:)
Jonny DIY does it make a difference if I wipe off shaving cream with paper or cloth towel? Thanks
Ivan, should I wipe off with paper or cloth towel? Thanks

Thanks Shannon, great idea! 👍🏻
I did that and now theres melted plastic on my iron, bad idea

but the elastic hair tie is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that myself.

this is the best clearest I've seen. Jonny has exc delivery. susan
Thank you Susan 😁👍🏻
Good job I want to make a couple soon myself, thanks for sharing the video!
You're welcome 👍🏻
You freaking amaze me, can I shelter w/I and ur family until life gets better. The world needs you!
Thank you 😁👍🏻
Best video yet for DYI face shield.
Thank you Judy! 👍🏻
You can also put triple the foam strips so u have more space to breath.
Great idea! 👍🏻
Or more space if you have a big nose like mine!
you can also use a dark plastic to have a tainted look
@@greenrobot5 LOL "tinted" big difference! ;)
Great idea! Thank you. Deaf interpreters could use this idea. Going to make this so my mother can see my face expressions when I speak to her.
thank you for the Diy

Very impressed. So good and easy to make. Well done.

Yes hopefully this video has helped save at least 1 person from getting sick

Awesome idea!! I'm making two, one clear and one green with a ginger ale bottle
Thats good can always have 1 clean one ready to go. Should be cleaned well after each use. Polish with shave cream to prevent fogging 👍🏻
Excellent video -- thanks for posting! Clear, concise, clever. Well done!

I don't think you can replace one with the other. You need both.
You’re supposed to use both
That's what I initially thought...but you'll need both. You'll still need a mask to filter the incoming air and you'll need the shield to protect your face and the mask from moisture. A mask and a shield complement were the other lacks.
When I have to go indoors I use both.

A month ago, I made a face shield with a slight derivation of this guy's method and it has faithfully served me.

What's the derivation?
I hope more people do this.🙏

That's awesome.. gonna make one just so when I work on my Suzuki sidekick i dont get mud falling in my face....
Nice, love sidekicks! Yeah I think Ill use mine for a grinding shield when I need it too, since I cant find my other one 🤦♂️
Wonder if you could use that thing with car window tint on it if you were outdoors in bright sunlight, it might be like a big pair of sunglasses.
For sure. They actually sell these visor hats that have huge flip down face shields like sunglasses. Popular in Asia
Excellent thank you ..Blessings stay safe everyone 🌱
Thank you so much

Works....but, most people don't have inch weather stripping. Better to use a wash cloth folded at 3 inches to inch folded and sewn onto the plastic.
