I definitely want them to address Clay’s mental health in season 3. Even though he let Hannah go by the end of season 2, the guy still can’t be totally right in the head after everything he’s been through.
Really good interview and great to hear more thoughtful and articulated responses from Dylan Minnette. About the Zach and Hannah story - I disagree with Dylan that it was hard to explain. I think it makes Hannah's story more human and realistic if you process it from a girl's point of view. Hannah felt really lonely and had wanted Clay to make a move on her for so long by that summer. Clay once again made her feel unwanted by not being responsive to Hannah's attempts to show interest in him and she let herself be swayed by someone who finally made her feel desired. Zach treated her badly by behaving as if she was not worth standing up for and as if he was ashamed of her and this is a good enough reason for him to be on the tapes but the meaning of the 'throwing away a letter" was a different one, something that only Zach and her would know and understand as being throwing away her as a person. Also, during this interview I can see some body language dynamic when Katherine is brought up - he does not seem too happy to talk about her and he never mentions her performance on the show. And the notable absence of Katherine's appearance in interviews where Dylan is also present looks really strange - the promotion of this season is done vastly without her. But it may also be fair to say that she does have the tendency to take over interviews when there is only her and Dylan as she is very articulated and charismatic, and maybe Dylan grew tired of that dynamic as he is the lead actor after all.
Clay with Tyler, was a hail-mary move. Most likely not going to work in reality. But, he cares so much for the kids who get trashed he just was desperate. And thankfully Tyler woke up to that and responded to that.
