I agree. The ability to sight in behind rifle sights without an aiming laser is one of the key selling points, not to mention the Steiner COTI thermal overlay attachment
I got a set of the Steiner 21s earlier this year. I believe mine was assembled with NOS parts from STS inventory after Steiner acquired STS division of O'Gara - likewise the tubes are probably early 2000s stock as well. Agree with your take on it. It's a novelty goggle with many issues. They are proprietary and certain parts of the design are frustrating, but they were also very ahead of their time with the digital integration - something that you are only now seeing come back around. There was a document about these being integrated into an experimental parachutist HAHO navigation system in the later 2000s. It featured a helmet computer with head tracking, turning the 21s into a sort of augmented reality goggle, and overlayed parachute glide slope "pathway in the sky" like the glide slope displayed in aircraft HUDs. Awesome stuff.
Wow, these are even more impressive than I thought! I had no idea about the eHUD or beam combiners. Thanks for the overview. Your channel has always been awesome, but it's really been special to see these more rare models since you joined up with TNVC. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks for the good info! Love your channel, I am planning, in the near future, to get my first NVG setup through TNVC! I will start with a single tube and a weapon laser, likely the MAWL, and go from there. I will more than likely need to finance it out because it is just so costly. I am excited to get started in it, for hunting and for fun, but also it'll be like having a superpower!
It would be nice to see more commercialization of periscopic systems like this but there's a whole lot of the State and lack of economy of scale standing in the way of that.
aka the brit and aussie google. Great video, seen them in theatre before but never got to use them, always wondered if they were worth the squeeze or not.
The "low profile" has the advantage stated in the video, of allowing the operator to use their eyes when the device is turned off, but also the benefit of being able to fit behind mounted rifle sights, meaning that you could use them without an aiming laser.
Only had limited experience with 21’s but the size and position of the beam combiners make them very difficult to get used to. I also found it a bit disorienting given the image is not aligned with your eye position. When wearing eye protection they are very difficult to get a decent image out of. In the early 2000’s against combatants without NV capabilities I imagine they done the job just fine, but these days I think they’re out-done by a lot of nvgs. Interestingly, I found LUCCE 2’s to be a much better LPNVG option and usable even with eye pro.
As someone who watches these videos for entertainment/information (I'm a tech nerd at heart) its the little details, like noting how easy it is to get your fingerprints all over em, that really shine and stick out in your videos! Given your experience with night vision, how much of a problem is fingerprints/dirty lenses as an issue? I wear glasses and often notice even the smallest of smudges and fingerprints can distort my vision. As such do you find a similar issue with night vision? I imagine its just one of those things you have to deal with, especially in the field, but curious what your thoughts/experiences are!
Thanks I appreciate that! Traditional goggles are easier to handle due to the tube type shapes however you’ll smudge them up from time to time. I find that smudged ocular lenses are more noticeable than smudged objective lenses. When the ocular lenses are really smudged it can affect your image sort of like if you’re diopter isn’t set correctly. You will get dirt particles etc on the objective which you will see in the image. They’ll look like little specks. The good thing about a mil-spec quality device is that you can rinse it off under the sink to wash out the dirt before cleaning the lenses. I normally use keyboard duster before using a microfiber
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISIONIt's really awesome that you (and TNVC) provide so much useful information in way both relevant end users/customers and the average guy can understand and use! As a guy who comes to these videos from an everyday guy perspective, it's nice seeing tactical gear being explained and show without the usual "taticool" flair that most videos can't help but pad their videos with. Professionalism without the chest pounding and jingoism is sorely needed in this community and its all the more exciting when you find channels like these!
The LUCIE used in the German, French and Austrian military is built in a similar way, but as a biocular instead of a binocular. So it has one tube split into two eyepieces like a PVS-7
Here becuase i wanted to know why in Ghost recon this set of nvgs didnt have a battery running to the back of my helm but that EHUD sounds interesting and the fact it runs on a AA battery is wild
Great information. I've learned a lot from your channel. Good information and always appreciated. Do you think the pricing on this tech will ever drop? PVS-14's have been out a long time and they seem to keep their price point at the same level.
Thanks, much appreciated. I don’t expect prices to come down anytime soon. If anything were to change it’d probably be prices going higher due to the high level of demand
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Unfortunately I think you're right about demand. It seems to tracking along with guns/ammo in terms of demand. Those aren't going down in price either and likely won't until after 2022.
So on the amber/purple filters/stickers are you sure you removed the protective film off of them? It looked like maybe you hadn't. On my 21's the purple doesn't really reduce the quality at all and I highly appreciate them. Also the Wilcox G21M mount is so AWESOME... but you CAN really just use the standard Wilcox g24 IF you get the fairly inexpensive Wilcox NVG Interface Shoe: tnvc.com/shop/wilcox-nvg-interface-shoe-for-anpvs-21/ it simply makes that tilt range larger/longer and the ability to fit it to your brow and under the helmet brim becomes easier by far. If you get that shoe and replace the default one you shouldn't have any fitment issues with most mounts / helmets. The Wilcox G21M though is the best mount for this though by far (tnvc.com/shop/wilcox-fixed-mount-for-anpvs-21/)... but I would still no matter what, get the shoe! -- I don't know about other recent models of NVGs but these are salt water proof to a certain depth and time... you can find pics here and there of them used via beach landings from sea to sand. These also don't seem to fatigue my eyes and affect balance as much as other nods I've used recently - BVNDs / PVS-14s.
If no one has mentioned it lately. We appreciate you sharing the knowledge.
Thanks I sincerely appreciate it 🤙
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION I for one hate new knowledge.
Absolutely. I'm already pretty knowledgeable on NV already, but I learn something new with each of these uploads.
+1
The best NODS for that anime illuminated sunglasses look.
In that regard they look very cool but unfortunately you don’t get to see it since your wearing them 😂
If only life was third person POV :(
Would love to see Steiner come out with a contemporary version of this. In certain features it's unmatched to this day.
I agree. The ability to sight in behind rifle sights without an aiming laser is one of the key selling points, not to mention the Steiner COTI thermal overlay attachment
TNVC is killing it with bringing unicorns like the GPNVG and this to the civilian market, and thanks for sharing much needed information!
I know I keep saying this, but DUDE, you are absolutely *crushing* it with your content lately. Keep pumping these out for us.
Thanks brother 🤙

It’s a very interesting goggle and it would be pretty cool to be able to feed in EHUD data.

Steiner also made a thermal imaging COTI addon that attaches to the endcap interface.
Huge thanks for the info. As an NVG noob, your channel is really helpful for gathering info on different types of set ups.

It would be nice to see more commercialization of periscopic systems like this but there's a whole lot of the State and lack of economy of scale standing in the way of that.
I've seen a vehicle-mounted thermal system incorporated into a set of these through the side interface. It provided an overlay like with ECOTI.
Great review of a unique nod, I hear only good for driving.
I’m glad to see you’re still making good informative OC and not just shilling. Keep it up man
Don’t know anything about these so thank you very much

Just what I needed. Love your content.
These are dope really like the ideas of LP NVG
i saw one for sale for 3k, i shouldve nabbed it, its dope
Thank you so much for making a video about these lesser-known systems. Could you do the PVS-18 next please?
Used these in the British army. Awesome bits of kit
Would love to see a review of the 23s

Really cool, but we couldn’t get any shots of what it actually looks like through the combiners? Did it just not work on camera?

Will you upload some GPNVG18 video?
Keep up the great videos !
Damn, I was super jelly of these things when I was serving. Now that I know they kinda suck, I guess my pvs14 wasn’t so bad after all!
I wouldn’t say they totally suck but from a NV goggle only standpoint only (no EHUD), pretty much every other dual tube system is better IMO.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION What about for passive aiming with an eotech, would these be better than typical dual tubes?

Pvs21 GPNVG.
Ground Pancake Night Vision Goggles.
Damn, still hudge for low profile, will stick with moded fpv googles for my use, thanks for sharing
To fix the helmet issue you need to get the Wilcox NVG Interface Shoe Adapter. Overall these are the best NODS on the market.
Do you know if it would work with a G24 and the shoe adaptor? Or does it need the specialized mount?
Best nods on the market ? What did you smoke bro

If I'm being perfectly honest, it's a cool concept that has lots of potential, however, it never caught on.
Agreed. The EHUD functionality is pretty cool but from just an NV goggle perspective (which most people will buy it for) there are better options.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION From the gitgo a lot of the upsides are negated by the extra bulk. I'm sure with more modern stuff you could cut it down.
Will any dove tail mount not work? Trying to build a list so I can ditch the helmet strap mount.
G24 should work okay but the G21 mount is the best for it IMHO. We have them as a special order at TNVC (the G21 mount).
God I need a pair of these so bad

Can you send a link to the wilcox g21m mount?

I have the opportunity to purchase for 5800, with mount, good price?
Are these commercially serviceable? Or is it still a grey market NOD?
They are not restricted. I don’t believe they are being made anymore, so Steiner may not have components or have limited components for servicing.
Does it need the G21m or can it work with another mount with an adaptor?
Is the offset disorienting?
If you mean is the image offset, it appears normal, and you don’t see any perceivable offset
Developed for pilots?
Damn them nice 👍🏿
Anyone have a recommendation for mostly stargazing? I want a dual tube system with a 10k and under budget.
DTNVS with 2376+ FOM requested unfilmed white phosphor tubes. Unfilmed WP is awesome for stargazing. At TNVC we don’t charge extra for spec requests 👍

is there anywhere I can purchase the tilt adjustment knob?
Not that I know of. I’d email Steiner
Could someone assist for reapplying the power knob? Came off of the actual connector
I no longer have it my possession to inspect. Is there a hole in the shaft for a set screw? If so, you should be able to find the set screw.

They're like high-end sports cars, if you have to ask, you can't afford them. TNVC doesn't list a price, I'll estimate high teens for them.
