I am a teenager and my dream job is the CHP. I hope to become a Air Officer!
If my running didn't suck, I'd join. Even when I'm in my best shape, I suck at running. CHP is the best!!!
Been a security guard for 10 years wanting too become a cop but I'm in my 50s most don't want someone of my age.
Correct the cut off age for CHP is 35.
Why didn't you try to join decades ago?
Damn bro yea you’d prob have a heart attack lol. Try running 3 miles in 18 min or less and see how u feel after then ask yourself do you see why
Facts!

Retirement at 160,000 a year at age 50 is not for everyone.

Do you get to choose your preferred geographic posting within the state?
Cadets have a certain degree of say in where they can be assigned. Cadets are ranked in the academy based on their academics, range, PT, and driving. The higher you rank, the better your chances of getting an assignment of your choice. About 50% of cadets are assigned to the so-cal region in Los Angeles, 30-40% to the greater Bay Area, and the rest to outlying offices that need to fill vacancies. Officers are only required to serve one year at their first office then they can transfer to any office in the state pending vacancies and seniority.
Military Age waiver :) Can't wait
I second that; waive the age limit for prior/retired military and I'd sign up in a heartbeat.
@@BPD1586 I have one year left. I am about to start my background.
If I make it, I'll most likely be the oldest trainee there 🤣
@@Honza_650 Best of luck to you!
An applicant can waive up to 8 years while actively serving in the military provided they apply as pass testing prior to turning 36 years of age and formally request an age waiver.
@@CHPCareers definitely!! You guys do as advertised! CHP is absolutely amazing organization.
Keep up the good job
10 or 12 hour shifts?
Choice between 8 and 9 hour shifts sadly
Which is exactly why no one is going to join this department
@@Bwade121 Why tho it's less hours of work + your pay is a Salary
Less hours at work per day means more days at work. Most chippies live outside of their areas which involves a commute to get to work early along with suiting up before briefing and dressing down after shift. For most officers that live out of the area who are on 8 hour shifts, that equates to about an 11 hour day. That’s only if you get off on time and don’t have any late calls or mandatory hold overs due to short staffing (very common lately). Not sure if you’ll agree, but I’m sure you’d rather dedicate three or four 15+ hour days a week rather than five 11+ hour days a week.
@@Bwade121 are you a CHP officer

NOPE: They couldn't pay me enough to be one.

Any chance 12 hour shifts are coming back?
Overtime is always available . Got a buddy that does 4 12s and off 3 days a week
@@americanpatriot8281 what are you talking about? He asked if 12 hour shifts are coming back. He didn’t say anything about overtime.
@@Bwade121 12 hour shifts are overtime . So yes they are available
@@americanpatriot8281 if they work (3) 12 hour shifts and a 4 hour shift there’s no overtime.
@@aucutt79 you’re correct but that’s not what I was talking about . I assumed he was just asking about 12 hour shifts in general or was wondering about overtime
What about the scandal regarding Avery Browne? Corruption flourishes.
Can I join with just a GED
Yes
@@CallMeAhSirHKP how do I stand out from all other applicants just with a GED? Any advice
@@jupiter7040 Don't lie, study for the PELLETB, get fit, and learn more about the agency itself.
Hello !! How long would you say is the standard time of the hiring process ? All before you get to the academy
2 years
6 to 12 months right now
Wilmnb❤😊🎉
School and degree also helps your odds correct?!
As long as the person meets the minimum requirements they can apply. In regards to the hiring process, an applicant is not competing against others. If an applicant successfully completes the hiring process, they will be invited to attend and train at our CHP Academy. There are pay incentives for those that possess degrees of higher education. An additional 2.5% of their base pay for an associate's Degree and 5% for a bachelor's degree.
All you need is a GED.
Left ear only ☹
Being a trucker for 9years would that help? I know Chp loves to pull them over and I would know what to look for 😅
With the many years of commercial driving you could have a speciality down the road as a mobile road enforcement officer.
A CHP Officer doesn't "love" to pull over a truck. They pull over a truck if it is BREAKING THE LAW. GOT THAT?
@@kenprice1961 No, you are wrong. They randomly pull over trucks, who are committing no infraction, to inspect for safety. GOT THAT?
NOPE! Not until they start accepting LATERALS.

Starting salary of over
100k annually…
Is SO unequal for people with higher degrees than just a high school diploma earning 70k or so;
Involving time/student loan debt etc..
And this occupation just requiring exactly that just a high school diploma, so unfair…..
Nothing wrong with it .
Yes There is…….
Your fault going to college could’ve just waited and not have loans 🤷♂️
This is their problem how? You should be going to college to get a good job that pays good. If you were just a sheep and went cause that’s what you wanted to follow that’s on you.
Glorified Hall Monitors.
If you seriously want to serve your country in Law Enforcement, apply to be Sheriff's Deputy or a PD Officer. They are the true heroes.
Highway Patrol / State Troopers spend all day harassing honest motorists and hard working Truck Drivers.
Not no but HELL NO .
You completely forgot to mention the great opportunity to enforce the dehumanizing, illegal "laws" being placed upon the citizens by your evil governor. I've never met a good cop.
1 SO YOU CAN GO TO JAIL FOR DEFENDING YOURSELF FROM A THUG !!!
I'm skeptical of that starting salary of "over $100,000.00 per year". However considering the cost of living in California and your having to live in the area you're assigned to , perhaps it's a COLA .
Being a cop is a crappy job. You deal with assholes all day. Everything thing you handle is a problem.
Additionally (and no one will tell you this part) when you are a cop and you are invited, introduced, or otherwise meet new people, you will be the only one introduced by your job. " Susan, Mary, I'd like you to meet Bob. He's a cop."
On the plus side, for guys it can have its advantages. There are women who are cop groupies and will bump uglies with anything in uniform. Ask any cop. They'll tell you the same thing. Hedge fund managers and cops get the lion's share of the 🐈.
Listen, you're gonna deal with a-holes every day in any career. (No joke) At least with law enforcement, you can do something about it. Wake-up. : )
7 reasons why not to join the CHP
Seriously ? Civilian police are undisciplined, unmotivated, and extremely under trained. Try fixing those deficiencies first.
For anyone applying just know it’s 1-2% chance of getting hired. You’re better off becoming a doctor
What makes you say that
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take
sound kinda negative
I’ll take those odds
Is this even a fair comparison? Not to talk down about CHP officers, but they only require a HS diploma vs a doctor who needs at least 8 years of further education. Who actually says to themselves, "man, I failed CHP, I should be a doctor as my back-up plan"?
GOOD LUCK LOL......
my left ear enjoyed this video. Awesome video too.
Im planning on applying after I complete my Associate degree. I can’t wait!

Impossible to get hire

Does any of that training include how to shoot black people?
That's a stupid question. Of course it does.
i love. chp cars
to kill people with impunity??

Does military experience increase the chance of getting selected/hired?
No they base it on your test and physical examination they provide in-house
If you’re a veteran and pass the exam with lower scores they still put you top of the class
Yes, don’t listen to people on here because they think they know. Go down to your local chp office and also do a google search and read up
Yes. Talked to one yesterday. Military gets priority over anyone else.

I’ve gone 132 down the highway and got pulled over by my future FTO lol.
All the replies and you been diagnosed with a underdeveloped frontal lobe ? Not to be a prick but being honest in my question How are you caring your weight?
