@@PeanutChuAdventures Thank you!!! I will look into renting the newer lenses. For now, I love the 200-500 on the Z9. Was out today with the 500 F4 - it was awesome on the Z9 I rented a month ago so I will be looking forward to that when it stops raining!! Spring - I will be renting lenses. 🙏❤🤗
Hi, thank you, I am happy that I can help. I'm currently, working on episode 4 right now on exposure, that will finish the essentials. Probably will put out within 2 months. So busy right now.
Great video. Thank you for putting everything into "Peanut terms" I usually do photos but would like to get into doing some video as well. Can't wait for the next training video. Be safe.
Nice start my friend, when you get them all done put them in a playlist, that would be cool. I hope you are doing well for the New Year and look forward to your content. - Jeff
Hey Peanut, this video series is going to be awesome. I'm looking forward to the rest! I don't have a Z9 as of yet, but I think you will help with a video structure with any camera. Greg
Peanut, may I ask if you miss having a long zoom? I shoot the Sony A1 and rely on the 200-600+2xTC almost exclusively because I find primes too restrictive for most video work where you need to properly manage the framing during capture. What's your thinking? The reason I ask is that I'm considering picking up a Z9 (again) and give it a go, but the absence of the Nikon 200-600 is holding me back. I can adapt the Sony 200-600 to the Z9 but the existing adapters leave a lot to be desired and the 100-400 is too short most of the time and is expensive. Would the old 200-500VR work in the interim? At least they can be found cheap on the used market.
I recently upgraded my D 850 to the Z 9. I am adjusting to the nuances of mirrorless cameras. I noticed an Owl group poster who shoots Sony A1 videos. I have to admit- after 13 years of DSLR- videos were not impressive. I have been trying to figure out the slow mo videos and was nearly ready to jump off the figurative cliff. Finally- I saw your "unboxing" video and found it very informative. I do have a question- I have heard from an Adorama and BH CSR that you could not couple a 1.4 TC along with FTZII and PF 500 5.6. Did I hear you correctly- this is possible??? Can I ask about image quality? Thanx- I will be your newest fan.
Hi Gary, using the FTZII adapter you can use the fMount 1.4TC with the 500pf on the Z9, I have used this combo, maybe BH, Adamora were thinking a zmount tc??. Question, have you been using the D850, with the 500pf or are you planning to buy the 500pf? I ask this, because the 500pf is a very sharp lens, and with most tc's you may see a slight degradation at times. But, you are at F8, so if light is a factor, keep that in mind. If you are planning to purchase a 500pf, this is 3600 and tc is 500, maybe you can consider a 800pf6.3, its a 2500 more, but you are at 800 native at 6.3 and you don't need to adapt. Only something to think about if you dont have the 500pf already. Ok, Slow mo. I do it in software, Final Cut. I will film at 4k/120 and you can slow down to 25% looking natural. Thank you, my newest fan!!
Question. What reason do you use af-f instead of af-c. Doesn't af-f have a higher risk of coming off target and just staying focused on background, as opposed to AF-c that you can pump the autofocus to get to your subject?
Hi Patrick, I prefer AFF for these reasons. My opinion only, everyone has there own way of doing things. 1) I don’t find AFC to hold focus better than AFF. 2) If you lose focus, you can hit backbutton to regain focus with AFF. But in clean backgrounds, AFF rarely loses focus, even in some congested scenes, I find works great. 3) If you pump on focus with AFC, that appears in your video, making it unusable to me. 4) Many times, on birds not moving much, I can just let the video run without touching the camera. Sometimes I will let it run for 10 minutes or more. 5) I find holding down on the AFC button may introduce more shake on the camera since I have the grip the camera 6) When I am panning the camera, I don’t have to hold down any buttons, I find I can be steadier and less shaky. 7) I dont find AFF having more of chance of going to the background then AFC, I find it to be similar. My reasons, I hope this helps. Thanks.
Coming from taking photos using a DSLR, I started using AFC because that’s what I did with photos, I was not impressed and thought something was wrong, I read the manual and went to AFF. As soon as I went to AF-F everything became easier and was getting much better captures. But, it takes a few weeks to get the hang of it so give it fair shake. A couple of other people called me and when they got the z8 and z9 and said they hated the video autofocus. I asked, are you using AFF they said no. Once the tried it, they love it.
@@PeanutChuAdventures I was in the Sony A9 and wanted something better for video and the z9 was on a great deal. The autofocus is on a different level especially in video. So if I'm on af-f does focus tracking speed and AF speed matter, or do those only apply if I press the AFC button for acquisition?
Yes, tracking speed does work on AFF, I set it at 5. When you press af on button, this option will tell it how fast to focus, for cinema you may want a slower focus, not so much for wildlife for me. When you use af-f, for initial focus, you should press the af on(back button) to get it. Dont wait for aff to do it. AF-f is good to maintain it.
So glad you shared this. I have become so used to Canon and now going back to Nikon with he Z9 - thank you for this!! 🙏❤🤗
