When I moved to the side instead of the middle all of the tension in my hand disappeared! Thank you so much for this!!

Wow, this was SO helpful. I'm a beginner and only have RUclips videos to help. I've come to realize that most of the videos are not helpful, but this one REALLY helped explain issues I'm having with fingering. I never considered how important my thumb positioning is. Thank you!

Very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Is the thumb fixed while playing with different fingers in the first position? Or is it loose and can move around but come back to its base as needed?

Thank you for this tutorial! I found moving my thumb to the side immediately effective in relaxing my hand and improving my intonation + extensions! I did find however, that when I shifted to second position my thumb felt a little tense. Do you find you're thumb going a little more towards the center when you shift up to 2nd?

Ryan Marlowe in the second position the hand doesn’t need to stretch that far as the distance between first and 4th finger becomes smaller. So, if it makes you feel tense, definitely don’t do it. It’s only meant as a help if a hand is not big enough to easily reach the distance.

I can appreciate for some the technique for extensions works, however, not at all "easy to reach" as you expressed. My hands are just too small I guess. There is a anatomical factor-

"I like the movement of your arm and hand in the arches. I suggest doing a video about it !!
    Thank you very much."

Thank you, what exactly do you mean by "arm and hand in the arches"? Are you referring to the positioning of arm and hand or which arch are you referring to? Or is it perhaps Google Translate which got it wrong (lost in translation...:-)?
