@@scalebuildersguildwait til you see whats yet to come😉 gotta say i really love the end video sequence! Definitely gets my vote, super well done matt👍👍
Dear Matt, I too owned a YJ ('93). It too was a Sahara Edition. Although the paint was the forest/royal green. Held onto that truck for 30 years until I sold it to my IT guy from work. Good and Bad of this. Truck is still in fantastic condition, But it's like seeing your Ex make out with your friend. Sure you're happy for them but it still stings a little. Love All you do for us. Thanks Again! JEEP HAVE SQUARE HEADLIGHTS!
I agree...as a former AMC/Chrysler employee of that era, this is a really legit looking rig. I also like the way the suspension is flexing and bouncing. Sure, it's not leaf spring, but the ride of this compared to the (vehicle that shall not be named for licencing purposes) is not that far off. Now, as a former AMC alumni, it's no CJ, but then we said that back then about these too. bawwwhaahaaa....
I own the Jeep in the thumbnail, the original, 1990 YJ. The name of the color is “khaki metallic”. The color code is PJ5. You have to be careful ordering PJ5 though, because it’s a code for two different colors. But I must say, you did a fantastic job of matching the paint. I know it’s not exact, but it’s damn close. The roll bar covers are tan, but so is the dash, so.. It still looks good.
Great video Matt! Your transformation turned an already good looking truck into amazing scale model! I would have loved to have seen it side-by-side with a Traxxas TRX 4 Bronco or some such to get an idea of its actual size.
Thanks for your very detailed explanation! It is what it is: a HOBBY - RC Car , it is NOT a comp.Carl, NOT a thing from a established „Brand“ and the Price is absolutely fair,i think.(Just for comparison: ONE LITER Gasoline costs TWO € in Germany at present, thanks Greta and Putin!) I „drive“ my FMS 1/6Willys with HW1800 Combo ,90mm P&L Shocks… Lots of fun… 😊
Hey Matt, I'm sure you know why they call this truck a Mashigan by now but If you don't it's because the designers name was Chuck Mashigan, so it's named that for a good reason... fun fact.
@@TrokaRC no idea really. They will have to change the body a bit, or pay jeep for the licensed body in order to keep selling. I'm sure they'll figure it out.
Looking like Magyvers jeep from back in the day! 😎. Don’t forget the antenna on the passenger front fender bud 🫠 and remember the wipers set like at a 45* angle when they were off.
Love how long the trail run is, less talk more action.. man you set the bar so high for running videos, very cinematic, you should do a video on how you make it so movie like
He left the tire off because the hinges are wore and the tailgate rattles when driving down the street. You made it look even more realistic with that paint job.
Loving the detail!! Wish they would make a TJ.....round headlights!!! Lol working on a 16th scale TJ now, having trouble finding a chassis for it, any suggestions? Love your site!
Chuck Mashigan was the designer of the YJ Jeep therefore the name ( its also not a licenced body 🙃) Great looking trail truck, wish it was 1/6 scale to match the willys jeep and also my own 1/6 scale collection off rc's. Great paint job too 👍
My step-dad in the service had a YJ, he loved that thing so much but every month something needed repaired, doesn't have it anymore, retired a while ago, but I'd love to buy him this for Christmas I know he'd love it, just wish it wasn't sold out. Awesome review!!
I agree with your comments about the look from ROC Hobby. What you did captures the sense of a Jeep. I especially like the foam covers for the roll bars
Honestly, the old YJ running around without a spare on the back makes it more accurate, at least to what I used to see around here when the YJ was still fairly common.
Great job Matt! So cool you had a real one. I ordered mine today & went through my parts stash & found a set of the CCH wheels you used. I think they look great & I'll use them on mine too.
The cinematic shots with the foggy ambiance, mysterious music, and Sir Patrick Stewart all work SO well together. Definitely a believable intro to a cerebral drama/thriller. Well done!
I want one in the worst way, i would like to replicate my 95 yj being my first vehicle. It was emerald pearl green if im not mistaken. My rc4wd swb yj build is the same color and i think would be super cool to do. It was just a sport but it had a 1.5in suspension lift and a 2 in body lift. (Purchased that way) but basically stock otherwise.
Wow. Your vision as to what this truck could be is inspiring. The execution of the scheme … nearly flawless. But your driving vids, driving with one hand and filming with the other, are cinematic … just amazing. Unparalleled on the ‘Tube.
One thing I really like in the 1/10 - 1/6 size RCs especially if they have the hard bodies is the suspension articulation. The smaller, lighter trucks just bounce too much
As someone that has owned a YJ, the glass opening being a bit dodgy because of the spare tire is actually perfectly accurate to the real truck. I love it. And 100% yes, real Jeeps DO have square headlights. The YJ is the last 'real' Jeep. I will die on that hill. The tires at first glance look about right versus how my IRL YJ looked with a 4" lift and 33's.
I worked in the detail department at a Chrysler dealership in Phoenix back when these were out. We would spray the lot cars off each week as part of our job. There was an emerald green and gold Sahara edition on the lot that got extra special attention until the day it sold. My dream Jeep! I might have to buy this one.
Did you know that I worked at the Chrysler Plant in Brampton, Ontario when I was in high school and college? Wasn't lucky enough to work on the Wrangler, but it's always been one of my favourite vehicles... until it got stolen! Bringing back the memories!
Looks really sick on the trail. An I think the slipper being the way it is makes for great realism. If it was an automatic, it would rev out just like that to go over or up a path.
I need this. Looks just like my YJ including tire size. Mine is more of a burnt orange metallic color though. If I get this (sneak it in the house past my wife), it would be modified to look more like my YJ, including the leafs.
Cool! Christmas time is the perfect excuse to sneak things in... just say it's a present and cover up the box. I tell my wife to close her eyes. Works like a charm!
Matt you might want to take a look at the leaf spring setup on a Jeep yj as they are leaf under stock so it would be accurate if the kit is under. People do spring over swaps on the 1:1 yj for a easy lift on them.
I just picked one up last night, a bunch came to USA from China, I thought I had time to get one when they released, but I was wrong my hobby shop sold out fast and could not get any for a long time, till last night actually....just a cool jeep, love it great video...👍👍💯
Great looking build, TONS of potential! I see this being the base for plenty of projects! I would have liked to see it closer to1/10 scale, though, if only to be able to use that body on other chassis'. Thanks for the review and another great running video 👍
Man! Wow! I’m impressed on how good it looks with that paint job color combination! It looks so realistic! Like you said before too bad it didn’t come with leaf springs! That would have made it more realistic! Also the wheels make the whole look of the yj! Great job Matt!👌😎👍that Sahara looks pretty good! My other choice would be a Jurassic park looks!
Chuck Mashigan was a designer for AMC. Also I am pretty sure the YJ (TJ guys call it Yucky Jeep) had spring "under" . Actually was basically the same design as the CJ 7, but the springs were a bit wider.
The video is great Matt. The fog makes it awesome. Your paint and rendition is spot on. The leaf spring would be a great final touch. You would lose a little ground clearance since the original was a leaf under the axle, but it would be great to see one like that. Thanks for your review.
Working on my 2 Mashigan's. I had to come back to see the color as i'm trying to decide a color and look, I think you have seen mine with the 1/6 motor in it.
OMG! I love it! Matt, outstanding job at recreating the original Sahara! Ironically, the box stock one looks almost exactly like our 1989 “YJ” with 76,000 miles on it. Will be buying this for sure!!!! Thanks Matt and FMS!

Sucks these are no longer available. But I guess Jeep has to protect their trademark.... Anyway... Awesome job on the Sahara Edition rendition! IDK... While a 10 inch figure may be somehow "numerically correct", judging from the head height, and how it peers through the windshield, I think that figure is perfect for this vehicle. Hey Matt that was truly an awesome video, great job on the Jee......I mean the Mashigan........you probably just sold 2500 of them for FMS...
Thank you! I wish I sold 2500 of them!
I did a search and you can get all of the body pieces separately for not a terrible price right from fms.
That's got to be the nicest unlicensed body, regardless of the awkward scale, I've ever seen.
Oh well so much for not buying another rig before Christmas.
Wonder if FMS will ship it in a box marked socks?
