Hey, everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we are gonna be talking about coolers, specifically the Goal Zero Alta portable coolers. They have two versions available for you, the single zone 50, as well as the dual zone 80. If you ever thought, "What is it like when an energy company also decides to make coolers" Well, this is how they turn out. We're gonna talk about some of their unique features right here at etrailer. Now, the display is on the more energy-efficient side.
So on video, it looks like it's flickering a lot, but to the naked eye, it's very visible and easy to read. This is what it would look like if you saw it in person. I've been dealing with a lot of different coolers from different brands lately. If you're not familiar with a fridge freezer, well, the main perks for them is that they keep a reliable temperature where they don't fluctuate up and down, you can keep things frozen, important for raw meat and ingredients at the campsites. Also, you don't have to dig through ice and always make sure it's loaded up with ice because it has its own compressors to keep things cool.
And a final perk to why people start looking at this is because they see other people have it, and it definitely has a different look compared to your standard cooler. Now, what makes the Goal Zero Alta cooler different from the other coolers though is that it is pretty basic. Lookswise and functionwise, I wasn't very impressed. But when I looked at the entry level price points and I saw how energy-efficient it was because it is made by Goal Zero, which focuses in energy consumption, that's where it really intrigued me. So it checks off all those different boxes that you would expect from a fridge freezer, but it does it very intentionally.
So what boxes are we checking off Let's start with durability. What this is made of is it has a stainless steel exterior with bumpers along the sides. Other coolers have bumpers. ARB coolers have really heavy-duty reinforced bumpers. These are just your basic, load them up, put them around your campsite or in your vehicle and not have to worry too much about the edges.
The stainless steel does get really hot really quick when you have your cooler outside, but fortunately, the insulated bag is included with your cooler, which is very unique compared to others. The bag itself does get pretty hot too, but I highly recommend having this on there whenever you have this out on the ground or on your trailer exposed to the Sun 'cause this helps maintain the efficiency of that cooler. On the sides, you have these handles, so the handles flip up and down, but they also rotate to help you get a better grip. When I do reviews of coolers, the thing I look forward to the least is carrying the coolers around, but these are relatively light. The Alta 50 is going to be about 50 pounds in weight empty, and the Alta 80 is gonna be rounded up to 59 pounds, so not much of a difference in weight. The handles are definitely helpful for carrying it around, but especially when you get to the larger cooler, I recommend having a second person help you out. (cooler thudding) The latches aren't particularly impressive, they're just metal latches. What I do like though is that they have a spot here for a lock. You can put your own little pad lock through, if you wanna keep it secure. And when you press this lever, the spring is very smooth. One and two, then I can get the lid open. Locking the lid down, I just lift up and push this down. So while it's not sleek or eye-catching, it's very functional. Same thing goes for the power display. Very intuitive, very straightforward. You have this big old power button to turn your cooler off or on. You can turn your Bluetooth on to connect to your phone app. There is a light in the back which cycles between different settings. And you have your Eco mode. You can change from Fahrenheit to Celsius for your display. You can adjust your target temperature with these plus and minus buttons. And then you have your battery protection button. This one might need a little more explaining. If you have it set to high, this will do everything it can to protect what you are plugged into. You'll use this when you're plugged into
This review is so in depth. Best review I’ve seen so far
That's awesome, we're glad you liked it!!

I noticed you demonstrated the Alta 80 mounted on a rack outside of a trailer. In your opinion, is that an option for transport and storage on adventures with this gadget? Right now I am considering one of these, but I mount my cooler on a rack on the back of the trailer. Are these rugged enough to do that with? Thanks
