As you thrift…look for some vintage Christmas decorations since it will be leading up to the holidays. Like bottle brush trees…vintage Christmas cards…mercury glass ornaments etc
Since this is your first vintage market I would stay with 10x10. You will have backup inventory to refill for all the days. You really need to minimize your costs and especially your buy in prices for inventory. Take time, think it through and break out costs including all the time you’re already putting in. Is this show indoors or outdoors where weather could be an issue? Look forward to hearing how it goes.
10x10 is a perfect size for a first time vendor! A suggestion would be to take at least one pitcher away from the shelf. I also would suggest decorating the top of the bookshelf. Have something trailing down the side of the shelf. Another must have plenty of change, have a credit card machine and have a person there to help you! Setting up at different events in my area was 1 of my favorite things to do! ❤
I think 10 x 10 is perfect, especially for your first market. I would pay the extra $50 for 2 openings, that setup always worked best for me when I was doing vintage markets. If you don’t follow Laura Caldwell with LeftCoastVintage, I would highly recommend her! She has a RUclips channel & has done a lot of vintage markets! Make sure you consider having enough inventory to be constantly restocking as things sell. That was one area I learned the hard way on! People like booths that are full, so be afraid to put a lot out. I am sure you will be a natural at the vintage market! I can’t wait to follow your journey! I had my own business for years which was basically helping people set up their vintage booths, whether it be in a mall or at a market. I also sold vintage wooden crates & built display cases & furniture out of them.😊
So very much enjoy all you are doing! I am writing on the 15th, so you’ve already had one day at the market. So excited to know how it was! Thank you for sharing!
I agree on most of my shelves I put on the very top a real plant that maybe hangs down on the side or something like that it just makes it look a little bit more finished plus then there's the green she said she really loves green
Layer, layer, layer! Smalls are your money makers. Those are what people can afford, and they can easily fit them into their houses. Furniture requires a special buyer. The more smalls you have the more chance you have for making money. I believe you said your market is in November? People go to these markets for holiday items, Christmas and Thanksgiving. They are also looking for holiday decor, serving pieces and vintage linens for their tables for the holidays.
I think you need to price things a little higher than you think (I think your nightstands were worth more than you sold them for). You can always mark down the last day or take offers - but you have to remember to add something for your time to curate these items. I think a rack of flannels is a genius idea (maybe add a few ponchos or vintage blankets). My mantra when sourcing - weird sells! I think you will do fantastic 😊
A thin white wax application does a great job knocking down the orange on a piece of furniture. You really just want it to stay and hang out in the grain to reduce the orange of the whole piece. Apply in small areas, wiping it back off as you go. Works great on oak. I hope the vintage market goes really well for you!
You have a great start on filling your book shelf. Remember the rule of 3's, 5's and 7's - odd numbered arrangements are pleasing to the eye (which you've done already). I would recommend addin a few more things as well, maybe just small things. Keep them looking full and it's easier to spread out as things sell. IMO I would not place your shelves or bookcases on the edge facing out. If it's busy it is too easy for things just to "walk away". I am a retired retail managers with lots of years building vignettes and show cases. You have a great eye and some experience with your booth already. Trust your eye and your instincts and you'll do great.
Follow you on Facebook for the past couple months when you came up as a suggestion. I appreciated all of your helpful advice. Your channel is now my new favorite to watch. You have a very pleasant talking voice. Your stories are great to listen to, including your backstory. Had no idea bass fishing was a scholarship. Keep the videos coming!
I would do a 10x10 corner unit with 2 open sides, that way you get a great compromise between ease of traffic and wall space to hang art :) Alexandra Gater has great tips on decorating a display bookshelf!
@@flippedbyabbyAs a shopper, I often skip the one-open-side booths if 1 or 2 people are already in it.I can’t just easily see what’s available in those booths.
I did 10x10 booths for my first four or five vintage markets. I decided to do 10x20 at one show and it was great! I would say go for a bigger space as long as it’s not too expensive. If you sell a lot, you can always move items toward the center/front to make it look more full. Good luck either way!
Front entrance only, have new shelves on a side, u sit in a corner to watch activity side panel opposite of Shelving unit, and back panel for the pictures u got. When I sold my paintings, it worked well with my essels. I didn't have panels but it could be asset to u if u could build 2. You don't want it to look cluttered but u definitely can add more to the shelves. FYI, the turtle is my favorite too❤❤❤

They are also looking for holiday decor, serving pieces and vintage linens for their tables for the holidays. Good luck!! Oh also since it’s your first one your idea of laying it out at home is excellent. It always takes twice as long as you think to set your booth up and is very stressful especially your first time.
You need some vintage doilies or scarfs placed under a few items and hanging over the edge. Also try layering some items.....Plate or platter flat then a bowl on that and even a third layer if need be. Elevate items. VIntage boxes in different shapes to elevate some of the smaller items. The top could have a larger item also with someting draping down like vines. Steph from "Little Blessed Nest" decorates her hutch for ever holiday/season/occasions and is a master at it! You might go watch a few of her hutch decorating videos. You are on the right track though!
My thoughts are go 10×20. If you go 10x10 and add the extra cost for end cap, open walls, and the cost of building extra walls....that adds up! may as well just pay for the bigger booth!
I love how the bookcase came out! I agree with the other comments on getting a 10x10 booth, but I would opt for a corner booth so it seems more open. I like the way you decorated the bookcase, it looks great! I think a wall or a corner wall (4-5 feet on each side) would be great to hang pictures from! It would also be more stable as a corner rather than a straight wall.
Studio McGee has a shelf styling video that taught me a lot! All I know is when I walk by vintage stuff I never know what is decoration and what is for sale. I dunno how markets go though. Setting price tags or strings helps me, especially if I didn’t catch on from a distance that the furniture was also for sale.
Hard to invasion but you need to make a decision and just go with it. You're doing amazingly, good luck. Your display is beautiful and 10 x 10 is quite large. You'll be just fine
Congrats, Abby! The bookcase looks great, the bigger round basket, I would suggest swapping it with the books from the bottom. I understand your thinking, wouldn't hurt to ask about the 10x20, pros for both. 🎉 I'm excited to see how it goes!
LOVE the idea for walls, or curtains acting as walls. Also love the styling. It makes me expect high prices, because there’s breathing room, and restricted colour palette. I vote for a larger space, so that you could curtain off some of it if you didn’t want to style and manage the whole space, but use for stocking extra stuff.
22:00 that basket on right is so large so perhaps should be on bottom....or even very top to utilize that shelf or a picture and the swans.. Same with pitchers, the larger at bottom then medium in center and smaller up top. The very top could have those nesting baskets and one turned on it's side. Plus you have white all heavy and larger pieces on one side of sll shelves.
Husband and I do a lot of events and 10x10 is a great starting point. Definitely pay for a corner or end cap. You'll be stunned at how much more traffic you get!
I go to tons of antique stores and such. Most booths are around 10X10. Some are a tight squeeze to get around in because of the sheer amount of stuff in them, but I think you would do well with that size. Maybe get the two opening space. I'm excited for you!
10x10 corner would be great. Add some soft stuff-vintage tablecloths, Pendleton blankets, etc. The top of your bookshelf can give you a great space to add something unique, which would be easily visible down an aisle. Can you or someone crafty you know make a pegboard screen to hang pics, objects, etc. ? Paint it to complement the bookshelf. Keep a big stash of small items to fill the shelves. Good luck to you!
For the bookshelf, I suggest balancing out color, i.e., the white vases and the baskets. There wS a lot of white on the right and then a lot of Greenery on the left. Also, put more in the middle! Play with height. And layering. I like how Amanda from this Crazy Life does shelves.
I've been doing shows for several years. 10x10 is TINY if you are doing furniture. I would do 10x20 and get a corner if you can. Corner units can give more options for creating good flow and increases shopability.
Adding some small art and/or small mirrors in between the baskets and pitchers on a couple of shelves to cover the middle backs would make it look even better and add more interest. I am not too far from Jacksonville so I may make a visit and see it! Good luck! ❤
Consider stacking furniture as well. Try a middle isle of small furniture stacked. You’ll need to paint the backs, but you can always use the backs to hang art. If you’ll be adding temp walls, you could add a “ceiling” if allowed. Lattice works well. Even if you use it for ambiance only, it’ll add to your booth. Baskets look nice with vintage cookbooks, or vintage linens. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
your staging of the bookcase has either an item on the left and an item on the right or a grouping on the left and a grouping on the right and the center is empty. you need to change that up on some of the shelves and get rid of the perfectly straight vertical rows you have created.
Operating expenses can eat into your profit. I would keep the 10x10. You can always store more items in your car or bring a trailer. Hang pictures of the additional items in the booth. Say these items are also available. Then bring out a new item when you sell a large item. if you can get some help running your booth.
I love this brown! Looking forward to watching your market journey. I say 10x10 would be a great start and to pay the extra $50 to have two entrance sides….but I have zero experience with something like this. Just thinking of a space I’d enjoy walking into the most.
I think a 10 x 10 is going to be efficient as far as opening up the booth. I would I would suggest that you leave at least two sides close so you can hang your artwork. I don’t know about stuff facing out. We had a booth at a place here and it was basically a big L shape, but it was a space was a lot larger. Also we had stuff facing out, but we made sure, you know that everything could be visualized good luck
I say go big or go home! 10×20! That's even what Melissa (Melissa? The gal in your last video) did at the last minute and she didn't regret it! I am like her, and I am the kind of person to jump in with both feet. It's not worth doing something only part of the way!
10X10 sounds perfect. I would not put any book shelf facing out. You need to see what is going on within your booth. Your bookcase is on the right track for decorating, but the bottom 3 shelves each have 2 items and the items are all placed in exactly the same place vertically. I hope that makes sense and I know you are just testing the decor. Some stacked books, maybe 3, with decor on top or cloches of different sizes with items under them on top of some books. Draping a chair with a quilt or blanket type item. Also as you said in the video, greenery is very good. By the way if you use books you don't need to sell those, just use for display purposes. I love the books with hard bound covers and gold embossed titles and scrolly designs. Wishing luck with all your choices.
Love the color of the bookcase👏 can't wait to watch you transform more stuff. Those chairs are great and will sell right away. Maybe apply for the larger booth so people have room to move and it's not cluttered looking? I'm sure you'll decide whatever is best for you. Looking forward to watch you prepare.🙂
This is just a thought; could you put your bookcases facing in and hang pictures on the backs of them for people walking by? If you could figure a way to hang them without putting holes in the back of your bookcase, that would be utilizing the space on both sides. Wish I were closer. I would totally stop by your booth and say, hello. I wish you lots of luck and fun.
I say get the smallest booth you can. However I t’s really difficult to really consider purchasing furniture if you can barely see it or can’t even get close to it. Please try not to over fill your booth. It’s ok to stack night stands and end tables if they won’t damage one another or even display vignettes on top of furniture just make sure that there is room to walk. Consider putting lighter weight items like baskets on top of the bookcase. You can always move them down later when there is more. Good luck with your booth.
You have a “straight line” of white on the right side of the shelf. It makes that side look heavy or lopsided. Try to shift that big one to a different spot.
Exciting news!! Can’t wait to see you prepare for the market! I think the cost of the smaller booth will help maximize profits. Also Consider the location when you select the booth configuration- would the endcap spot expose you to more foot traffic? Verses being in a corner, etc. Best wishes!!
10x10 for sure. Also, you have items on the bookshelf set up in two columns (top to bottom) - add a third column or vignette on a few and it will look better.
The Tiffany standing desk banker's lamp, you bought cheap. $35 is really cheap. If it is a real one, then the value can go up considerably. I have seen them here for $546. The cheapest I came across was $99. Too bad you don't live in the Netherlands, I have quite a bit of vintage that I want to clear out. I am getting older and my daughters think that I should get rid of as much stuff as possible. They are afraid that they will have to throw it away after I die. Although I don't want to die for now. ;-)
Would be nice it if she place a vintage candle glass on top of some vintage books. The shelves needs small vintage things to balance. Pinterest should be your friend.
I have been to quite a few markets….sometimes the person you least expect it is the first person to” forget” to pay. Maybe have a trusted friend help you keep an eye out. Enjoy your channel.
10x10.. and I wouldn't have items on shelves facing out too open areas,to many blind spots for pilfering, also minimise the availability of multiple exits again too much opportunity for theft you can't watch all the exits all at the same time..Arrange mirrors on shelves and walls to look decorative and for sale but also to highlight blind areas so you can glance at a situation that looks suspicious.always be aware that while someone has got your attention there may be someone else waiting to run off with something. I know it's a horrible way to think but believe me ..if they can they will.. even a simple thing like a pen and paper or tape measure while your looking for those someone else might be up to something good luck though it'll be exciting and tiring all at the same time..❤
What if you stage the area with pieces for a completed room to sell as a set? Like stage for an office, reading nook, or small dining area. Just thoughts.
Also remember that you have to take into account the entire mechanics of the “wall”. So you will lose however many inches (total feet) for the stand for the wall(s).
Corner booths are coveted but experienced sellers can handle the two open sides and extra people from 2 open sides. I've seen one person handle this by hanging beautiful textiles halfway up and it felt like I room not a booth.
I would look up that picture you got for 30 dollars. With that picture looking so old and the paint turning green, and the back of the picture with the original frame it could be worth a good amount of money. That seller who was hesitant to sell to you and was wanting almost at least 50 dollars, she knew it might have been expensive. This is just some advice, do what you will with it. Look that painting up by the original painter's name on it, or the picture itself.
I feel a 10 x 10 space might be too small where you can’t lay out your stuff in a nice way, might look overcrowded and not as visually appealing to the people shopping. Versus the 20 x 20 will give you more space to display your stuff nicely and have some room for customers to maneuver.
The general rule of thumb is you should at least be able to double your money on every item you buy .... so if you are spending $30 on something make sure you can guarantee you can sell it for $60 ...... start small and build up a new market ..... what was good then may no be good now .... watch flea market flip she always have great stuff and that can help you on idea and such ... but I an sure you will do well and wish you the best of luck ... keep us up to date
I have had a booth at a vintage pop-up market for quite a few years now. I started out doubling the price of the item I bought and that is absolutely not enough. The bare minimum should be triple your cost but that should be your starting point you make all your money at the time of purchase not at the time of sale, remember you’re paying a booth fee, possibly commission on what you sell, and then they cost of the item. Simply doubling it does not give you much profit at all.
Oh Sweet Girl, you have to stop cutting corners like not painting the underside of those shelves if you what to be known for good merchandise. People see those mistakes and walk away without really checking out the rest of the booth. You have so much in you!!!❤
I'd say get the 10x10 honestly, considering it's your first might as well start more conservatively and if/hoping all goes well next time ramp it up. I'm curious and excited to see how things go for your little market. The turtle is fantastic, the picture does look really nice and authentically old! I wish i was creative enough to do this but im too judgmental and hard on myself, it's nice getting to live that side of myself through your content :)

Wind can be quite a challenge. Perhaps use this 1st show to “cut your teeth” so to speak. Even seasoned sellers have lost a small fortune to wind. 😉

This is great feedback!! My friend said that too! Thank you 😊
Operating expenses can eat into your profit. I would keep the 10x10. You can always store more items in your car or bring a trailer. Hang pictures of the additional items in the booth. Say these items are also available. Then bring out a new item when you sell a large item. if you can get some help running your booth.
You are doing a great job yes stick with what you know leave room for learning watch videos for ideas are free but don't lose yourself good luck❤
You can restock day 2 and day 3.
Yes! I think I’ll stick with 10x10
I love this brown! Looking forward to watching your market journey. I say 10x10 would be a great start and to pay the extra $50 to have two entrance sides….but I have zero experience with something like this. Just thinking of a space I’d enjoy walking into the most.
Love this video! I think the book case looked really good with the first top coat/Brown, love it painted too.
Yay, thank you!
Thank you!!
I say go big or go home! 10×20! That's even what Melissa (Melissa? The gal in your last video) did at the last minute and she didn't regret it! I am like her, and I am the kind of person to jump in with both feet. It's not worth doing something only part of the way!
Totally agree!!! But she has SO much inventory and lots of experience!
Some people absolutely will steal if given the slightest opportunity. =/ I vote for a U-shaped setup with one opening.
Great idea!
@@thelittlebrownranch9105 Oh, that is a brilliant idea!💡 I will remember that for myself!
Yes, l caught an older man putting something in his pocket
This is such helpful feedback!! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much! 😊
I think this is a great idea!! I could use sticky adhesive or something
How fun!
Thank you so much!! It’s a 3 day event too so if something sells I can just replace it
You have a “straight line” of white on the right side of the shelf. It makes that side look heavy or lopsided. Try to shift that big one to a different spot.
Thank you!! Everyone seems to agree on this!
Exciting news!! Can’t wait to see you prepare for the market! I think the cost of the smaller booth will help maximize profits. Also Consider the location when you select the booth configuration- would the endcap spot expose you to more foot traffic? Verses being in a corner, etc. Best wishes!!
Totally agree! Thank you!
10x10 for sure. Also, you have items on the bookshelf set up in two columns (top to bottom) - add a third column or vignette on a few and it will look better.
Keep your white pitchers and so w other like items together.
Looking forward to seeing your results maybe even some video footage of the highlights. God bless and I hope you sell out.
Open concept with space, no walls needed...10x10...good luck at the market
The Tiffany standing desk banker's lamp, you bought cheap. $35 is really cheap. If it is a real one, then the value can go up considerably. I have seen them here for $546. The cheapest I came across was $99. Too bad you don't live in the Netherlands, I have quite a bit of vintage that I want to clear out. I am getting older and my daughters think that I should get rid of as much stuff as possible. They are afraid that they will have to throw it away after I die. Although I don't want to die for now. ;-)
Love all the small items! I think they are arranged in two vertical lines and that’s why it’s not quite looking right. It’s too symmetrical maybe?
Would be nice it if she place a vintage candle glass on top of some vintage books. The shelves needs small vintage things to balance. Pinterest should be your friend.
Thank you!
If you can swing it, I would go for the 10 x 20. Give the room for things to breathe, room for a cash/wrap station, and all the shoppers.
Have you ever tried Oxalic Acid? Ive seen other RUclips furniture flippers use it to bleach the orange tone out of oak.
Hey Abby can I buy something I saw in your storage unit? I can’t wait till vintage market days..kinda impatient too 😬
Which item? Email me flippedbyabby@gmail.com I may miss your comment
I would stay with 10 x 10. You want to make as much money as possible. You can always replenish I’m assuming. I’m sure you will stage it beautifully.
Yes you can! And each day you can reset
Hi Abby😊
I wish u all the luck!!
I have been to quite a few markets….sometimes the person you least expect it is the first person to” forget” to pay. Maybe have a trusted friend help you keep an eye out. Enjoy your channel.
How exciting! Maybe, next time you can get your mom to apply too. So you kinda cheat a little but you have 2 small booths
Yes!!! So smart 🤔 I will be recruiting her for help lol
Good size space
Love the painting of the little girl! She’s special; keep her for staging!
How big a booth did your friend have, & was that $7k for 3 days?
10x10.. and I wouldn't have items on shelves facing out too open areas,to many blind spots for pilfering, also minimise the availability of multiple exits again too much opportunity for theft you can't watch all the exits all at the same time..Arrange mirrors on shelves and walls to look decorative and for sale but also to highlight blind areas so you can glance at a situation that looks suspicious.always be aware that while someone has got your attention there may be someone else waiting to run off with something.
Thank you!! They ended up being taken but I got a 10x10 :)
great video
I would look up that picture you got for 30 dollars. With that picture looking so old and the paint turning green, and the back of the picture with the original frame it could be worth a good amount of money. That seller who was hesitant to sell to you and was wanting almost at least 50 dollars, she knew it might have been expensive. This is just some advice, do what you will with it. Look that painting up by the original painter's name on it, or the picture itself.
Well, how big is your storage unit? I would use that size as a determining factor in which space you choose.
10x15 !
I like your videos
Thank you so much!
I feel a 10 x 10 space might be too small where you can’t lay out your stuff in a nice way, might look overcrowded and not as visually appealing to the people shopping. Versus the 20 x 20 will give you more space to display your stuff nicely and have some room for customers to maneuver.
Great point!
No problema! Love your channel and the content. You have a good flow to your story telling. Keep them coming.
I think you will in the site for WISH.
Please share your results with us!
absolutely!!! I will document it like the nightstands series!
10/ 20
Alexandrea Gater and OXMacenna on RUclips both have great tips on styling shelves!
I’m getting the best channel recommendations!!! Thank you so much!
Yes but that's styling for home, which is different in my opinion than items for sale.
Oh Sweet Girl, you have to stop cutting corners like not painting the underside of those shelves if you what to be known for good merchandise. People see those mistakes and walk away without really checking out the rest of the booth. You have so much in you!!!❤
I noticed. I did paint them after the video. 🙄
Keep the chairs
Have you ever been to Webb's antique store
No! Where is it?
@@flippedbyabby lake City, Florida. It's big
Mark the space with bright tape so you can really see it. Walking it off is too indefinite
It’s just for imagination purposes 🤣🫶
Is it just me or are the shelf hangers upside down? 😂 also, I liked both paint jobs but the second one is better
I don’t think but now I have to double check 😂
the back of that shelf might be exposed
Wallpaper that bish
Florida Jacksonville?
Yes :)
Did you ever buy a haunted antique item that caused a curse on your home
No 😅
I honestly think that you are stocking shelves in a pleasing way, not decorating, so don't get to crazy with it.
Great point! They will be a lot more full in the market
I'd say get the 10x10 honestly, considering it's your first might as well start more conservatively and if/hoping all goes well next time ramp it up.
I'm curious and excited to see how things go for your little market. The turtle is fantastic, the picture does look really nice and authentically old! I wish i was creative enough to do this but im too judgmental and hard on myself, it's nice getting to live that side of myself through your content :)
keep those white cool chairs or sell them to me
