That's why at age 80 I'm purging as much of my belongings as possible now to hopefully prevent this from happening. Unfortunately my kids are not as appreciative of my treasures as I am! I love going to estate sales although I always feel so sad for the past owners...I just can't go into the closets. Thank goodness for Amanda for saving so much from the landfills!
Whoever this woman was, she had some very beautiful things. It makes me a bit sad that this was all just left there, but I’m glad you are finding new homes for these things so they can be loved and enjoyed again.
Great finds! Never underestimate anything. I’ve sold things on eBay for worth-while money that you would think no one would want. And they pay the shipping. Parts and components from broken items sell really well because lots of people refurbish and wil buy things like pot handles or lids or knobs.
When I was a kid, we lived in a hundred year old house. The glass windows had no screens. Those adjustable screens you have are what we used to keep the bugs out when we needed the windows open to catch a breeze.
My house is 132 years old, I'm the fourth owner and longest residing. I enherited it, its where i grew up. I think of all the memories in this episodes house, the birthdays, the holidays, the family get togethers, the picnics outside, the kids having sleepovers or visiting aunts and uncles or Grandpa and Grandma. How it might have looked 40 years ago still in its prime. It's harder and harder for me now in my 60s to take care of the things that I want to and always could. Yes there are plenty of treasures there and so many memories of decades gone by. It's like the little video of the woman's voice saying "I think I loved you" as they're showing pictures going through an old house as it falls into disrepair.
Loved the haul. Have to admit sometimes when I am going to an estate sale think about the lives that once filled the walls with life. Kinda sad but guess its better that items are saved for others to treasure.
what scores. I am 70 years old. When I was growing up I remember my mother and all my aunts, grandmother having a tin or 'button box' just like that. I'd love that.
My favorite large carved flower button and dark blue rhinestone button from my great grandmother's button jar, got ruined, when I added an old button from an antique store to my collection. It had a plastics disease that effects old plastics, celluloid, etc. and a fine alligator type crackled look is the clue and result. It spread gradually and I had to throw out my plastic buttons! Only glass ones were added after that. I was so sad, losing the two buttons that reminded me of my great grandma's button jar.
Damn girl, I wish I had 1% of the talent you have in visual merchandising. So impressive how you can grab a bunch of stuff that doesn't look like much, and make it all look so great together. I just wish we could get to see more of your magic.
Great finds! Love the vintage croquet set! Can't wait to see them set up in your booth - I know it's a long way off, but can you also show us the flipped house when it's done? That would be so cool!!
Two best days of my life, we’re picking. I’m 63. I took similar buttons, each different, and sewed them on a wool jacket to replace the existing buttons. I’ve also clustered some on the lapel of a jacket. Also, they look great covering a lamp shade.
Holy cats! The Family that lived in this property must’ve truly had a rich life. Thank you so much for this video and sharing all of your beautiful finds. For some reason those two bottles with the candles in them I love the most probably because someone put those candles in there and so they seem all the more precious because of it.
Regarding the sewing tin: Sometimes seamstresses will put their old sewing machine's manual or attachments in them. I found both in a sewing caddy once and used Google lens on them. I paid 4.99 for the caddy and sold the attachment for $45 and the manual for around $19. Also, sometimes the thimbles are sterling silver (most not, though). Some buttons are also worth a bit, but they can be a time suck to look them all up. Needless to say, I love looking through old sewing caddies; it's a treasure hunt for me.
Omg! All those vintage plastic buttons! It will be fun digging through them! Yes, sell them in jars. Love the mid century star burst glasses! McCoy planter and jadite are cool too….so many goodies!
Hauls like this are perfect examples of how my house now looks like a Hoarder House. Also, anyone who thinks this business is easy, needs to watch this video. ❤️
What a treasure trove! I hope you're able to get back and really comb through what remains. There's a melancholy in all those belongings that used to be someone's life, sitting there forgotten. Rescuing them so they fill someone else's life helps relieve that. Browsing the all-sorts (flea markets, antique stores, vintage stuff, garage sales...) is a favorite outing for me. I've been a longtime follower and it just so happened I was watching quite a few of your videos in the past few days, and here's a new one. :) Spending time with you doing it is like going without having to leave the house lol. And as you've said, it's always interesting what you walk in and find versus what catches my eye in the background; that's part of what makes secondhand shopping so special. There's plenty for everyone and something for everyone's taste.
I was yelling at the screen the whole time! Lol You need to pick up the Scotch plaid cooler that was in one of the sheds when you go back. Also, I thought I saw some Fiesta ware in a dish rack, maybe. Glad you are able to go back! Please film your second visit; this one was so fun!
Oh my. What fun. Re: the buttons. I once met a man at an antique show who was selling buttons for his daughter. He said he was putting her through college with them. He wasn’t kidding. Evidently they are collectible! He had them all lined up in display frames. The tin box you found looked promising!
SO HAPPY to see a new video! Those screens are for windows! You tuck them at the bottom between the window frame and the sill and stretch to fit side to side! I grew up in a home pre-air conditioning! They were a hot commodity if you could find them! BTW, you taste is so much like mine…and I have an antique space too!
Nice haul but I’m sad that when those items were bought back in the day they were really treasured and to now see no one cared enough to take them until now. It makes me start to wonder if that’s what will happen to my things when I’m gone. I collect tea cup and saucers, tea pots, salt and pepper shakers and anything unusual that catches my eyes. So cool! The floral metal tray my family had when I was growing up (1970s). We called them tv tables for eating while watching tv. It would have had a folding stand. We had a whole set! I thought they were ugly back then but it looks pretty spectacular 50 years later. Like a piece of art😊
Those sliding screens!! I paint two different scenes on each half that can be foreground and background and can stand on their own or slid together and make a scene together.
They were originally used to prop up an open window to let in fresh air with those old windows that had weights, when the windows wouldn't stay open by themselves, and/or didn't have screens. I would have loved to treasure hunt in that old building. I bet there was a ton of good stuff left behind. Like the guy said, you could spend an entire week looking through everything day after day.
I know someone mentioned that the broken vase was worth a lot of $, but I honestly see them all the time. They're massed produced from China and don't hold much value. If something was going to be a glass "casualty," I'm glad it was that and not some of the other vintage glass that you picked. Nice finds!

Wow Amanda so much cool stuff. What a fun day you had
It was one of my favorite days of sourcing!
What a fun video! Beautiful finds. The creepy doll scene had me laughjng.😆 CONGRATS on 40k...very much deserved!!
Great treasures Amanda. What a wonderful surprise.
Nice finds!
Stopped what I was doing and had to watch. Love your videos Amanda!!! 🇨🇦
Best picking video I’ve ever watched!! Thanks for sharing it with us!❤
