I make pasta sauce from tomato paste and water. Just add a few herbs, maybe some garlic if you want. Much cheaper and easier to carry and store tomato paste cans than big jars of pasta sauce. I also make tomato soup from tomato paste the same way. Add water and maybe some basil. Some tomato paste has garlic and Italian herbs already added.
You also had flour and could make some pancakes. I also love that you are making your own bread, so good and good for you. And you bought the butter with your budget!-so many people just call that a pantry staple, but at almost $4 a pound you have to count it!
Thank you, that’s a great idea! It’s so disappointing how expensive butter is- I really hope prices can come back down. I know Aldi has good deals on butter during the holidays, so if you have one near you check it out. Merry Christmas 🎄
Great ideas, I picked up quite a few tips. I'm on an extremely tight budget so I buy russet potatoes, 5lbs for $2.65. I make fried potatoes an onions, or to put in soups or casseroles. Also cabbage is cheap & goes a long way. Meats are so expensive now so I mainly stick with chicken quarters, I believe its 10lbs for under $9. I smoke or bake them, to use in chicken salad, or chicken quesadillas.
I look for those chicken quarter deals and freeze them as needed. I like learning how to make the most of the ingredients I have on hand. I’m not a great cook, but these are ideas that I can use
I've been loving all these channels RUclips is suggesting with budget meals/shopping tips. I'm just feeding my husband and I for now, but we have a little one on the way in February and money is extremely tight for us right now. It means the world to know that we're not the only ones who are struggling and that there's such a community of support out there
pancakes from the flour, french toast, sweet rice for other breakfast options, use a bit of the breakfast sausage and make a breakfast casserole...nice job, new sub.
Another inexpensive, filling and nutritious dinner is ground beef (or boston mix) seasoned with seasoned salt (lawreys), lots of onion, and lots of cabbage with 1 apple. Cook the beef with salt and pepper and drain off fat. Stir in seasoned salt and 1 copped onion. Cook until onions are softened, add about 1/2 chopped cabbage and 1 peeled and cored apple. A pinch of red pepper flakes if you like. Cover and cook until cabbage is wilted. So yum! Porportions of all ingredients can be based on however much you have. You can also add a potato. Add olive oil if you need more fat in the dish.
If you want to help your bread, don't put the sugar in with the yeast and flour. The best method is to only put a little bit of the flour and the yeast together separately, let it rest, and after that put everything together. Yeast needs water to grow and the sugar competes with it for that exact water. Also, before letting it rest, you can fold it like a book twice and then form it into a bowl, it will help it rise. I know it's a little specific and I hope I didn't bother you.
Thanks for a lot of good ideas! A small tip for the bread: You can skip the plastic and the extra oil by wetting a clean dish towel and wring it out, then drape it across your bowl or bread pan when you're setting your dough away to rise. The wet towel keeps the dough from drying out while helping to create the damp and warm conditions that are ideal for the dough to rise.
French toast, waffles, pancakes and oat muffins could also have been breakfast options. I find using a variety of meals helps make a budget meal plan more tolerable, especially if this is your weekly reality. I like that you emphasized nutrient content in your meals.
I thought this was one of the more realistic budget menu videos that i have watched. I liked how you did incorporate fresh fruit and veggies for your week. Thank you ❤️
Thank you for this video. I'm glad that I'm not in dire need for such advice, but know enough people who are struggling. And by not leaning towards convenience products your ideas and recipes can be reproduced outside the US, too. This is the first of your videos I came across and I' ll surely be back for more. And... please don't apologize for you kids just being kids and making noise while playing or for two pieces in the sink. That's real life, I love it!
First time watcher, new subby...thank you! I appreciate your research and easy to follow pointers + recipes. I’m surprised at some of the rude comments from people to you, sorry. Sheesh, keep quiet & move along folks. She’s generously offering advice that works for her family @ no cost to us. Some of us really enjoy this & find it helpful.
Great deal on food for one week, I currently have a family of 5 and spend $120 a week trying to bring my bill down a little more, but men are big eaters lol
I love it when folks show the grocery all at one time once they are home and tell the total and where they bought the stuff. Then do the recipes. Not interested in watching someone walking around a store talking about it.
Just a couple of tips that I use… I buy tomato bullion for rice and a small can of peas n carrots to it. I also save the bean water and freeze or can it for soup base. I know this will sound odd but sometimes I just heat the broth n drink it. My Dr said it’s full of iron and protein as well as seasonings.
Kudos for pretty much counting everything. Many/most don't count oils, butter, seasonings, things like flour sometimes, a bit of milk, etc. Butter and eggs alone are over $10 these days for most people so when some cooks don't count it, it truly isn't sticking to a low budget. Sausage these days is my favorite protein. I don't care if it is Italian sausage links, hot or regular, andouille ring sausage or breakfast sausage, etc. I probably would have mixed it up and added some sausage to the beans for instance or maybe on one occasion anyhow. But it is all just a jumping off point/ideas to customize our own way. Rice and beans truly are stereotypical and what most go to in any budget challenge. I get it but it gets a bit dull just like people who think chicken is the go to protein whether budget or weekly meals. This is the first video I have seen of yours so I don't know if you are sticking to budget meals or doing a bit of other too. But it was spot on and counting almost all $$ and ingredients.
Very practical and nutritious meals, I really like that you included butter and a large pack of eggs, it is what you needed and I think that is so important. So many skip those things in their budget challenge videos or cut way back. 🙂
You did a great job! The only thing I might have done differently is make the tortillas, so I could buy potatoes with the money saved. My family loves breakfast potatoes, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes or potatoes in stews and soups, but that's just personal preference. All of your meals looked delicious. 😊
First time here, your video was great & easy to follow. Beans & rice are one of our regular faves except we make bean& rice burritos & top w/ all kinds of goodies.❤
New sub here and I like where your going with this grocery budget meal plan ideas! I have to admit I laughed out loud literally after watching you just toss those cucumbers into your basket the way you did to me said well these will do, there not quite what I want but they will do for now (toss). I like that you are making your own bread because they are saying it might become hard to get in 2023!! So many are intimidated with baking bread and turned out good even with just eye balling it! I'm looking forward to what you toss together next time!!
I make homemade pasta sauce using 2 large cans diced tomatoes, 1 can tomato paste, a few baby carrots, and 1/2 stalk of celery add all to blender. simmer add seasoning. Makes 3 large jars of pasta sauce. Cool store in fridge good for pastas, chicken parm, meatballs for sandwiches.
Fantastic ideas! One of these days I want to try making my own bread. It's so much better than store bought! My mom used to make bread in a bread machine.
I think these are pretty wholesome and delicious meals. Just goes to show that when putting your mind to the planning and execution, you can save some serious money.
You can use some of the rice for breakfast. Many cultures eat it for that. A little sugar and milk. Wonderful. You vould also use it to mske soup. Some carrots rice bouillon, chicken. You could mske banana bread or muffins.
First thank you for the great meal ideas! I love the dialog you have started and all of the ideas being shared by your tribe! If you have room freezing green peppers when they are on sale/abundant can really help flavor pasta and rice dishes! Rice pudding (rice, sugar, milk, cinnamon and butter if you have it) makes a great breakfast or dessert! Thanks again for helping me think outside the box!
Grits are another great (and inexpensive) breakfast item. I enjoy making a breakfast bowl using grits, a scrambled egg, cheese, and bacon bits or sausage pieces or ham pieces.
Wow! Nice job. I have to say, the older I get, the more I realise that variety is not what I want or need in my food. As long as it is tasty, I am VERY happy to eat the same few meals over & over. Condiments &/or seasonings can take the same 2/3 ingredients to a whole different taste level. I love love love pasta, rice & beans, so these ideas you have cooked, would make me extremely happy. I don’t eat meat, so I’d use the cost of that sausage & buy some frozen vegetables (spinach or edamame or broccoli) I’m subscribing because you are pleasant to listen to, have some wonderful delicious ideas & are “real” 😀 Hello from Australia 🇦🇺👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Tipp: sulk your beens 12-24h bevor cooking. They will be healthier and need less time (9min). Prepare the hole package (less energieexpense). Don't salt the beens bevor cooking. You might like to try deluxe macaroni and cheese with about a half a pound of hamburger meat fix your macaroni and cheese scramble your hamburger meat with onion and add all of it together it is a great great meal
I would have skipped the marinara sauce and I would make my own sauce with tomato paste, water, onions, oregano. A couple of chicken pieces to make a nice pasta casserole with a white sauce. It is very hard to feed a family on a budget these days. Meat is almost out of my budget, so I buy hamburger or chicken only when it is on sale. I try to have a good quality protein in every meal, even if it is limited.
New subscriber absolutely love this. We are a family of five. However, my husbands are received so for for right now, I love the way you did this video and I’m going into a no spin/low spend year for 2023. I’m a prepper as well so this will do really good when I go down to my Shelving storage in my basement and start selecting items off. There are already have that you’ve already shown and just make some of these recipes. Thank you so much for listing this video.
Good ideas for saving money to feed your family of four. I wish you had shown the price of each of the items you purchased while you were in the store shopping.
Girl...next time please add vegetables to your beans..like two carrots, onion, a tomato, one pepper. It is going to make such a difference and is not very expencive. And you will have enough to freeze
A couple more budget friendly meals. American goulash, 1can diced tomatoes, 1box macaroni, one can tomato juice 1 lb burger or ground turkey Seasonings to taste, garlic, onion, Italian Seasoning, paprika. Day 2 Add chili beans and chili Seasonings for chili mac. Meal two, 1 can tuna, one box macaroni and cheese, one can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can peas, cook mac and cheese per box, mix in drained tuna, soup, and peas, season to taste garlic, onion, pepper, ect for a kick add old bay if you have it. New England boiled dinner, bean soup, ham and potato soup. I like smoked pork hocks in my boiled dinner but any smoked pork meat will work. Add burger to the cabbage soup diet soup or just eat the soup without meat my family love it for the flavor you can also add smoked meat ie kielbasa, ham ect. I hope these recipes help people out. Also a lot of communities offer meals on wheels for people who can't get out to shop or can't cook for themselves. You had sausage, you could have reserved half and made sausage gravy, you also had all the ingredients for biscuits. If you are unsure how to make the gravy you can pick up a cheap package of gravy mix at Walmart .
If I can I always buy meats in bulk and divide it up into usable portions. $ 10 dollar bag of chicken leg quarters, a big 10 lb roll of burger, and always check grocery store flyers and bargain bins in the store for meat sales. If you have a dollar tree or aldi store use them for less expensive prices a big bag of rice at dollar tree is 1.25
Just stick the dough in a microwave-safe recipient and bake it in the microwave in a few minutes. It's way cheaper than any other method and there are tons of recipes on youtube.
U did a great job. but ,there is so many more meals you could get out of the food u brought. Macncheese, pancakes tuna cassarole, oatmeal&banana bread or bars to name a few. Ijs
Thank you, but the problem with that is there wouldn’t be enough for the week if I did those meals. I had to make specific meals that could be stretched out. The bread loaves alone used up all the flour, there wasn’t enough cheese to make Mac and cheese etc
I put the bananas in the fridge to slow down the ripening, the skin gets darker but the fruit stays firm and yummy. Of course ripe bananas can be frozen until you have enough for banana bread! My mom would mash the ripening bananas, sprinkle with sugar and a little cream or milk...it was a treat!
Because of rising prices i'm now making homemade mayo, margarine, banana milk, oat milk, tortillas and puddings. I'm NOT going to pay for them anymore. Tons of easy recipes all over youtube. I've saving at least 50 bucks a month. If I could get fresh eggs I would be golden lol
You did a great job! You can watch hauls in different countries the inflation is world wide interesting to see the different prices in other countries. Keep up the good work⛄🎄
@@debbiesmith5763 there are tons of videos from the UK, some from France. Their energy issues are the focus of most videos, but food hauls are also included in many.
the math for tuna sandwiches does not work for 3 days with 3 cans. Each can, at best, is 2 servings, even though it is labeled as 1 serving. At. $0.80 a can, it isn't really a big deal, but would add $2.40 to your budget overall
Best news ever: m.ruclips.net/video/PFMc11gIMeM/видео.html
Thank you ! My husband is in between jobs, I'm still trying to pay medical bills from a rough 2022. This is so helpful for ideas.
Thank you for watching! I do have more budget challenge videos that might help as well. I hope your situation gets better, God bless you guys.
@@saltandfaith thank you, God bless you and your family.

Butter is a little more expensive, but butter is better for you, then margarine, margarine is harder on your arteries!❤
Awesome, that's how I do...even before inflation. Buy healthy, buy cheap. Save, meal stretch. 😊 meal plan.
Girl don't ever apologize for dishes or kids, that's life, that's what makes it.. keep the videos comin, love them.
Thank you! ❤️

We use mayo, mustard, salt, pepper and a tiny pinch of garlic & boiled eggs to make our tuna salad ! Love love love it
Great job
Grits are another great (and inexpensive) breakfast item. I enjoy making a breakfast bowl using grits, a scrambled egg, cheese, and bacon bits or sausage pieces or ham pieces.
Good price on the eggs. An 18 count thing of eggs here are over $7. Its crazy high. And we are in PA and not in a city.

You can also make brown gravy with your flour
Great video! Thank you for all the information. It’s very helpful.
Nice ideas. I would love it if you would put a list and prices of what you bought.
Very very good
nice homemade bread, just a little tip, brush an egg wash or milk on top before putting in oven
You can freeze any leftover tomato sauce in a baggie.
Good call on your recipes!!

Soups go a long way too. I use dried beans too.
Your bread came out fantastic!!,
Thank you 💗
You could also make dessert out of the rice, few ingredient rice pudding🤤
You can also good deals at dollar tree

Good ideas for saving money to feed your family of four. I wish you had shown the price of each of the items you purchased while you were in the store shopping.
Overnight oats is always good for a cold sweet treat.
Awesome video. Great momma
Wow all your food looked delicious

You need a Pampered Chef Hamburger/Sausage chopper ... they are so awesome, changed my life.
The tortillas are so expensive, did you ever think on making them yourself? You can also make delicious wraps from flaxseed or red lentils.
Good idea thank you
Ooh I’ll have to follow up on that and try some recipes..lTFS!
I've seen recipes to make your own tortillas out of cauliflower. I really want to try that. They much healthier option I would think.

Thank you, but the problem with that is there wouldn’t be enough for the week if I did those meals. I had to make specific meals that could be stretched out. The bread loaves alone used up all the flour, there wasn’t enough cheese to make Mac and cheese etc
Correct me if I'm wrong but raisins are cheap too and would be a good substitute over bananas. They last longer too than bananas.
I know (theoretically) how to make butter. But how do you make margerine?
You did a great job! You can watch hauls in different countries the inflation is world wide interesting to see the different prices in other countries. Keep up the good work⛄🎄
Thanks so much! 😊
Could you please share what other county’s videos you have found helpful? Thanks
There is plenty of extra PB and J that can be made. You can customize this plan to your tastes.
Better alternative for the pasta would have been a carbonara sauce. Well done though!!
