    Using stationary radar on a busy highway. My intention was to show how pointless using a radar can be with 8 lanes of moving traffic, but I was proven wrong!
    Vehicle is a 2011 Chevy Caprice, radar is Genesis II Select

    It's not speed that kills. It's people going wildly different speeds that causes accidents according to studies. That's why the rate of accidents on the Autobahn is really low even though they go so fast. Also, they use the left lane to pass, which many Americans can't seem to wrap their minds around.

      Officer didn't know how to use the radar. MY unit has "fastest target" mode, so I can lock on a small car passing a semi as I know the semi isn't going that fast. Most departments are only out for revenue and you are SUPPOSED to be certified in the operation of radar. BUT, many cops DO lie just to write a ticket. Dash cams are your best bet to prove yourself.

      I’d also like to see law enforcement upholding their own laws and using their turn signals and not weaving in and out of traffic or using the breakdown lane in non emergencies. Goes both ways :)

    • @pacovasda5955
      @pacovasda5955 6 лет назад +2

      AJ N law enforcement would like very very much to not weave in and out of lanes but the only possible conceivable way to stop that is to not have people in all these different lanes to weave between.
      Law enforcement must travel faster than traffic or they are limited to only seeing the exact same people as they travel down the road.
      When you get your motorcycle license they push very hard for you to travel 5 miles an hour faster than traffic regardless of what speed traffic is traveling weather is traveling over the speed limit or exactly speed limit motorcycle should travel 5 miles an hour faster than traffic so it's not to remain in people's blind spots. I've been pulled over many many times for weeving of course never convicted because you simply go to court and explain that you're doing what you're supposed to do and you couldn't be weaving unless they were becoming unnecessary obstacles.
      This does not mean that you cannot be charged and convicted quite easily for such but my point is if you want the cops to not weave don't be in their way and that applies to any traffic. you don't want vehicles to weave around you don't be an obstacle for them to weave through.
      I agree, cops should use their turn signals and should be charged when they're not but as far as weaving, that's our fault not theirs.
      Slower traffic keep right.
      Keep right except to pass.
      Always travel faster than traffic to your right & always travel slower than traffic to your left.
      this is and always has been the law and we need to obey it
      And that's exactly why the new "Slowpoke" laws blame the obstacle not the speeder.

    Michael Scott has a very valid point about speeding vs. an actual crime with victims.
    Actually, an officer does have to make the best guess as to which of those cars was doing 83MPH. No radar unit can selectively identify a single vehicle in a group. I was once targeted as doing 70 in a 45, crossing a highway overpass within 3 seconds of leaving a green light from a standstill. The 1985 Honda commuter bike I was riding does not have anywhere near that kind of acceleration, but the traffic passing under the overpass was doing 70-75 MPH. After researching the radar model used against me, I disclosed it's limited capabilities, and its field of vision capabilities, and, along with testimony of the officer to confirm all of those facts, the charges were dismissed. The radar does not lie, but it does not "lock" onto a target. The "radar lock", is actually an additional display which can freeze and save any speed being displayed on the "active" speed window. It does not lock onto your vehicle to identify your vehicle in a group of other vehicles. In the presence of even 1 other automobile, a motorcycle radar profile is virtually non-existent. A compact car on the far side of a crowd of 6-8 other larger vehicles is very likely not going to register at all, let alone show a steady signal on radar. The radar field of vision is fairly wide, as is shown by the range and rapid fluctuation of speeds on the radar display. It was also picking up and displaying the speed of vehicles to the extreme right of the police cruiser, which the officer would be trained to ignore, as those vehicles were obviously slower being on the entrance ramp. There are several videos on RUclips that illustrate "interpretive errors" much better than I have done here. Perhaps once you have been falsely accused of a victim-less crime, and face the prospect of a hefty fine and double-rate insurance fees, you may want to rethink about the abuse of technology you don't understand.

    • @motoxguy7
      @motoxguy7 7 лет назад +293

      +007K. Its through the officers training that determines which car it is. I cant speak for others but when I got my Radar/Lidar cert many many years ago I had to sit and observe vehicles in traffic and (1) identify vehicles "travelling faster then the posted speed limit" (that's what the citation is for) and (2) identify the vehicles speed within 2-3 mph. This is done WITHOUT using a Radar/Lidar gun (an instructor sits there WITH the equipment and confirms the speed). This training goes on for multiple days and I had to be 95 percent accurate within 2-3 mph before receiving my cert. It depends what state you are in and "vehicle code" you are cited for (their are 3 that cover "speeding" where I was from) for speeding. Radar/Lidar is simply a tool used to "confirm" an officers observation of a vehicle speeding. All of my ticket synopsis read: "I OBSERVED a (color, make of vehicle) travelling (direction, location) faster then the posted speed limit of (xx mph). I then CONFIRMED this on (Radar or Lidar) and stopped the vehicle......" and so on. Bottom line is that its determined through the officers observation.

      So if I drop a ball or coin in court and ask you to estimate the speed to prove your competency you will get it right? Bet you won't come close. Try it some time. I really don't see how "my training" is a good enough defense to uphold a speeding infraction. How can you say you confirmed anything on radar which by definition is measuring everything in its field of view which using simple math will tell you how many cars are being radiated (measured)? No offense, but this sounds like a lot of smoke and mirrors.

      @slaynprey 3 года назад

      Oʀʀɪɴ Bᴇsᴛᴇʀ I believe that technology such as that is likely available but you’re probably thinking of radar jammers.
      Those things will jam the radar and make it inadmissible, but that doesn’t matter because to become a chp you must be able to estimate someone’s speed within a few percent mph.
      Radar detectors aren’t illegal, im starting to think you might be assuming they are.
      The detectors are becoming obsolete because more and more cops know how to play the game or just have doplar. I think that’s what it’s called; new radar very difficult to detect long distance.

    • @obs4281
      @obs4281 3 года назад

      slayNprey Nah I’m not thinking of radar jammers. Police here in Australia have a device in their highway patrol cars that beep of they come in radius of a car that has a radar/laser detector in/on their car. I’m pretty sure that only in Western Australian you can use them here, other states, massive fine for having them in/on your car 👍

    • @slaynprey
      @slaynprey 3 года назад

      Oʀʀɪɴ Bᴇsᴛᴇʀ oh wow that’s interesting, our radar detectors go off with multiple signal readings so most ppl here it beep because a trucker is using his cb radio or some signal in a Walmart 1000ft away sets it off.
      I say this because maybe that’s a loophole that allows us to have them in our cars. I honestly don’t think most people realize how they work because you have to know the code that radar guns come up as.
      Whenever my detector says “KA band” is when I slow down and laugh when I see a cop 1mi ahead who never turns his gun off.

      Radar definitely isn't exact, but "guessing" isn't exactly the word for it. There's some basic science and training involved in determining which vehicle is the offending one. I'm not even a police officer and I can pace cars pretty effectively just by looking at them. It's all basic math, really. Knowing about how far objects travel in a given amount of time allows you to roughly estimate speed.

    I have a question - as I love radar, lidar and how all that stuff works. I noticed (I believe) that you have your radar unit with both "oncoming" and "away" activated (I presume this from the two opposite-facing arrows). If that is the case, how do you know - when you have vehicles approaching and driving away, which speed of the two is being shown in the target window. I mean, in this particular setup, you're angled in such a way - plus the barrier - that maybe you know that ALL vehicles being shown in the target window are moving away, but let's imagine if you were positioned with both oncoming and away lanes in your direct view. Thanks.

    • @Bcr3106
      @Bcr3106  8 лет назад +4

      +Pusheen Rules Thats a great point. If I was sitting in the center, then I would be getting both sides of traffic. That makes it much more difficult - if not impossible - to visually approximate, hear, and see the RADAR correctly.
      I don't use my RADAR in this way because of this. We have a few units with directional capability, but that particular one does not.

    In the UK no one follows the speed limit. Heck I once got pulled over for driving 20mph in a 20mph zone because I was apparently driving 'suspiciously slow'. The average speed people hit on the overtaking lane is 90+ mph. Only time ever you abide by the speed limit is when there's a speed camera or a hot spot for police scanners.

      The audio allows you to hear the Doppler shift and identify vehicles. If you hear a decreasing tone the target the unit is receiving is slowing. If you hear a rising tone, the target is accelerating. If a vehicle passes by and you instantly hear a tone change, it's likely the vehicle that just came into the path of the antenna horn. It's difficult to explained, but once you use the equipment for a while, you start to notice matches between the audio signal, and the traffic you are seeing.

      It's seriously not that hard... you look at the radar, you see the radar jumps up to a high number (speeding), you look up, see which car is going the fastest and you go get them! When you see how fast the cars are going it's easy to determine which cars are going slower than others.

      Target acquisition and tracking history. You do enough of them, you don't need a radar to tell who is speeding and who is not. The radar is used to confirm the officers visual estimation by displaying the speed and the audible Doppler tone.

    In your state it looks like you leave the radar on full time. In my state they leave it off but only turn it on if they suspect speeding. Do you think this is a rule they have to follow, or a tactic to avoid setting off radar detectors?

    • @RidinDirtyRollinBurnouts
      @RidinDirtyRollinBurnouts 2 года назад

      Just a tactic, some cops will use an actual radar gun to avoid setting off detectors, since it's one-touch operation and doesn't give radar detectors enough warning before it activates. Most have graduated to LIDAR guns that give no warning, are accurate to extreme ranges and can target specific cars with ease. Those are usually employed on speed traps on highway overpasses, with a line of cruisers on the on-ramp ready to go after speeders.

      Please read my comment and your original post. Your original post says "Try that with my jammers...I win every time." That statement is referring to your laser jammers that you have on your car, which do not protect you from radar. Again, radar jammers are Highly illegal, not laser jammers, which are only illegal in some states, but using them wisely is good enough. Radar jamming is a lot different than laser.

    • @erice3525

      No, you can observe the effect on an approaching or receding object (as in a car). A receding object still changes the frequency the radar gun is shooting off.

  • @jacknabstedt3222
    @jacknabstedt3222 6 лет назад +1

    I think the major reasoning for it was as you could see, the car was slowing down as it got detected. Going from 84, down to 83, and his mannerisms showed he was slowing down to 84, meaning he was probably doing more than 85mph, which is why he got pulled over. If your doing a few miles per hour faster than the flow it’s not significant, but when your going 10 over the flow of traffic, odds are you will get pulled over. This is coming from a police officer.

  • @etsonos
    @etsonos 11 месяцев назад +3

    The key thing to remember here is the LEO has to articulate how he assessed your speed visually first. The radar is meant to verify their assessment. Your assessment can stand on its own as "to fast for conditions" or "reckless driving" if bad enough. The radar can not stand on it's own. You are using radar to pick out speeders and then you're trying to assess who the speeder is afterwards. As traffic is moving away from you and there are many vehicles it is very difficult to almost impossible to assess a vehicle speed visually. With this video I would have beat you in court because you are using radar improperly. You are sitting on the road letting the radar do the work. That is the complete opposite of the training you received and is lazy policing. Get out in traffic and visually observe traffic patterns to identify aggressive driving and distracted driving. Those are the real causes of auto wrecks so if your mission is to keep people safe prove it. If your mission is to generate revenue you're nailing it.
