Holy cow, it worked! Trunk wouldn’t open. Inserted the valet key and got nothing. The handle did it! Thank you for showing what may seem simple and obvious. I forgot to take that Master Class on Benz-o repair. The automatic release still isn’t working but at least I can get in the trunk now. Thank you, thank you! ☺️
Glad it helped You Kelly. I learned all Of my “Mercedes knowledge” the hard way. That one has moved on to at least two other owners by this time. Maybe it’s just a fuse keeping yours from working or possibly some more lubrication in that electric lock might help get it working with the button. (Doubtful since it is an all electric lock and it worked when you did the handle trick.) There’s three fuse panels in the 2002 C240. One on the drivers side edge of the dash (you have to open the door to see the little tab you pull.) One is on the driver side post inside the trunk. (it’s behind a molded piece of carpet that has a little tab you can pull to pop it out of place.) And one is under the hood on the driver side Near the firewall. (It has a couple of bale latches if I remember right, and you have to lift the front end up and then pull the cover toward the front of the vehicle to disengage some tabs at the rear. ) The other thing I seem to vaguely remember was complaints from owners that the wiring that goes from the body to the trunk lid bending in one spot near the hinges on the drivers side and breaking the wiring in two inside the trunk, causing the latch to not work remotely. the electricity could not get to the latch when the remote button is pressed. hope this helps
Super helpful! Thank you for the extra info. Mine is ‘07 C230 and I’ll keep it until the wheels fall off. Appreciate your time and insight/remembering. All the best to you.
@@kellywebster2768 If you plan on keeping it, you might have to learn to work on it. YES,,, you can do it. A Mercedes is great to drive, (I miss the comfort/luxury and smooth ride. Not to mention that acceleration when you need it! (There’s a story or two I could tell you about that 😝 ) The kickin stereo and the heated seats were great on my back after standing for ten hours. Working on them can be a challenge, but I never had to by a part from Mercedes. Even when I rebuilt the front suspension, all parts were ordered online at a substantial discount.
My first thought was: you’ve been drinking motor oil! My fourth thought was: as long as I can find a video or two, I can certainly try. I do have a nice mechanic who is retired and only works on MBs. But I’d love to be able to fix some of the smaller issues. Trunk update: getting power to the mechanism, making the noise like it’s moving, but no go. I’m going to lubricate the mechanism again, and keep working it. Thank you for your dose of confidence!
Catherine Wilson very glad it helped. Sorry it took an hour to find the solution. That’s why I posted it, to use my frustration to prevent yours. Sorry about the poor video and audio quality . I’m in no way a pro, I don’t make one penny from these videos. I’m still trying to improve them.
Sorry to hear that. I’m not familiar with that model so my only advice would be to check on the Mercedes discussion boards and hopefully someone has posted a solution there. Good luck
Thank you very much juts hve the same issue this morning and the battery dead and i cound not open the truck to get the booster. the handle was stack try many times nothing you vodeo save me thi morning!!! . By the way, how did ou fix the issue of the alarm system i still have this issue from time to time found the batttery dead due to the fun and some lights stay working even when the turn off my car
Ahmed Dligui good deal. My alarm issue was two fold. One the siren wires had corroded in two. Fixed that then it would go off randomly. Next found the driver's door switch was broken after the seat belt was shut in the door. Bought a new one online. $10 replaced it. No problems since.

Perfect. Mine had stuck in the up position. I just need to get squirting some oil up there to see if I can eventually get it to spring back.
Mud Plugging good deal
I wish I would’ve seen this video a few days ago.
mine only opened with the key only can sum1 helped me
Did you watch the video? Reach underneath and see if you can find the handle that shown in the video and flip it downward. Then try your key again.
