I really wanna be a child psychologist when I grow up.
That would be great, Heidi Lucia. It is a very satisfying field to be in.
I'm doing my last year in BA psychology nd next year i want to specialise in Child psychology
... Can't wait
@@farrenmitchell9114 have you been doing Master in child psychology? How is the experience? I'm applying child psy. Master too.
This was one of the most powerful and informative videos I watched so far. I am going to college to become a child psychologist and this video answered some of the questions I had thank you doctor. I also want to try the positive side with all of my future patients, because I think that's what children need positivity. All "trouble children" are looking for is attention, positive attention.
Anamaira Zapata, good luck with your studies, you are doing good in the world.
Im going into uni next year to study psychology and ive always felt like my path is working with children. I want to be able to help people and make a difference, be it invidividual, to one person, or something bigger in the education system maybe. But im still nervous as to what im going to be able to do and how its going to be. However, even if i doubt im quite sure psychology is what i love and that i wanna work with children in the future. Thanks for the video!
blue v, glad you will be able to provide help to people in the future. It is exciting to see where your path will lead you.
how’s it going
update pls
Thank you Dr. Paul. That is something I needed to hear, just because we feel frustrated with some of our child's behaviors it doesn't really mean that they have a pathology. I felt relief knowing that.
I could almost hear the sigh in your comment, Catalina Navarro. Thanks for letting me know.
I can attest to what a good psychologist you are. For adults and children. We are huge advocates of Positive Psychology! Thank you for the wonderful education!
Thanks, :Lyndise. Honored to be on your team.
finished my degree in Early childhood education , now I'm going for masters in child psychology.
keaboka raditsebe, that is awesome, good luck.
Going for my bachelors in psychology then child development will be next! Woot woot. Go us 👏🏽
do you think it's best to do a degree in childhood education then masters in child psychology or just doing a degree in psychology/child psychology to begin with?
I only have an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, but child psychology interests me. How would I come about that? I know a bachelor's degree is needed to continue, but I don't know specifically what I have to get the degree in to do this line of work. Is it specifically a psychology bachelor's degree? Or is it under something else of education?
Hello Doc , i'm a 13 year old girl and i'm really interested in psychology specially in child psychology .I'm watching a lot of videos and checking a lot of websites . I really hope I get into child psychology and make a better future for children cuz they are the future of the world .
Agreed. Best of luck in your studies.
Welcome to my circle time for toddlers&preschools - children learn and have fun at the same time
They certainly do.
I am actually am so close to get my associates degree in general psychology but my goal is to become a child psychologist !
yahaira Ioza, keep at it, the effort is worth it.
I don’t know what to do. But i really want to help kids that have been abandoned and hurt. Kids that grew up in a bad situation. I want to help
이하나, that is admirable. There are many places to make a difference.
Live On Purpose TV what you do is admirable too!☺️❤️
You have a good heart. Good luck in wherever you decide to do.😃
Great video! My 14 year old daughter is interested in psychology.
ON Family, it has been a wonderful career for me, hope she continues to be interested.
Hi, Doc. listen, I know you're obviously a professional who might not have time to read the comments or answer all the questions on his videos, but I just felt like I need to put myself out there. I'm 26 years old, I've worked a number of different dead end jobs but I like writing and self publishing children's books in my spare time. I'm at a crossroads in my life where I'm contemplating what the next step is. I don't have any children of my own, but I've noticed that for some reason kids just want to talk to me out of the blue and spill whatever's on their minds. sometimes it's not even my friend's kids or ones I've even met, just ones that pop out of the blue and start talking to me. sometimes I don't always have the advice they want to hear, but the look of gratitude and understanding they give me when they spill their guts to me just feels right. I don't have a ton of money and don't know where to begin with getting an education in this field. What I'm asking is how do I know this is right for me and where do I start if it is?
Arthur Short, watch my video on becoming a life coach and if you want to go further, we can get connected.
They are so quick to diagnose kids with ADHD 🙄
eonni lady, it can be quick, or not. I think schools just want to be able to offer intervention to head off trouble for the kids.
E don’t go to heaven
In defence of the ADHD diagnosis, I was a pretty bad kid not going to get into it had conduct disorder saw a psychiatrist and wasn't diagnosed with ADHD even though others I knew were.
In ADHD a simple way of looking at it is it's an underactive mind which is easily distracted by things. They are then given Ritalin usually which is a stimulant which would send you or I bouncing off the walls, and this has the opposite effect on them, calming them down. And thus proving the theory, the most important part of any theory is that it works.
Martin Cooper, thank you for sharing your experience.
Hi - I graduated from Spelman college in 2019 with a bachelors in Early Childhood Education, and have just completed my first year of teaching. Teaching in an extremely underserved community, I had a great deal of students with little to no resources, that would benefit from the help with their mental health, as it impedes on their learning in some cases. This is one of the reasons I am very interested in becoming a Child Psychologist, but I am unsure of what my next steps should be.
I applaud your desire to do what you can to serve children, Kaylah Holmes. It's not really my place to give advice about which profession a person should choose - that is completely up to you. If you would like some guidance, I encourage you to talk to a college counselor as they can discuss with you in depth and determine the best course of action. I appreciate you watching Live On Purpose TV, and hope that you can use this channel as a resource for whatever you do. Live On Purpose TV I wasn’t asking for you to choose my profession . I 100% want to be a child psychologist . I am more so seeking advice on what my next steps should be as far as what education and degrees I need to seek out . Thank you !
Awesome lesson!!
Thank you, albani.
Helpful video, thank you!

Hi I'm in secondary school ( high school) in Ireland.I've always wanted to work with children, children with disabilities in particular. Recently I've been confused and unsure of what career path I want to take, what field I want to work in someday and what college courses I should take. I originally wanted to be a special education teacher but the job doesn't pay very well and I'm looking to have a lot of kids one day and with a low pay I don't think I could and where i live there aren't many special education schools.
I have spent hours looking into all kinds of psychological and I heard that it's hard to get a job working with the exact kind of people I'd want to work with so I'm just not 100% sure if overall psychology is the right thing for me because I don't want to choose it just so I can work with challenged children and end up not working with them. I would love to be a school psychologist but not very many schools near me would need one or are looking for one. I looked at becoming a speech and language therapist which sounded great but after looking further into it I don't think it's right for me. I still haven't fully looked into occupational therapy so that could be a good option for me but then again I dont want to end up working with adults or elderly people, only children.
I haven't fully looked into it but becoming an autism spectrum disorder specialist or a downsyndrome special could still be a good option for me. I'd love to open up a little centre one day for children with autism or downsyndrome and run my own little business.
If anyone has any other job recommendations for me let me know. I'd love to hear some feedback and advice
Lisa Maxwell, I think it is very admirable of you to want to want to work in the area of children with special needs. As you progress with your schooling, you will find that some subjects are more interesting than others and that will help you narrow which profession you will want to have. You can also talk to school counselors. We have several videos discussing children with autism, you may want to check those out to get a feel for how to work with them. Just search "Live On Purpose autism" if you want. Honored to have you at the channel!
@@LiveOnPurposeTV thank you so much
i’m in the exact same boat as you. sixth year student in ireland, looking at psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and all that. have you figured it out yet ?
Can you please explain the difference between positive psychology and occupational therapy?
VelvetNightmare313. Occupational therapy helps you to adapt. Say for instance someone had a stroke, they might have limited use of one side of their body and an occupational therapist would look at the things they need to do in a day and come up with ways to make it easier to get it done. It could be an adaptive device or strengthening muscle groups to perform better.
Positive psychology is training your brain to respond in a positive way no matter what is going on around you. I hope that helps.
What do you think about the idea that children are only the reflection of their surroundings, and that in order to make the child feel better, the work needs to be done more with caregivers and very little with the child?
Thank you doc! That makes complete sense to why we are here on earth! Lol! Like always great advice, Great video! Thanks again!!
Hey, PatientlyWaiting 4MyKing/SouloDad , thanks for watching. Honored to be on your team.
@@LiveOnPurposeTV the pleasure is greatly appreciated!
i started to consider being a child psychologist since primary school, it could also train my patience though. im also having struggle choosing my major in uni, graduating next year wish me luck...
Sabina N, good luck! I hope you find your passion. Whatever happens, your journey will be awesome.
Take your time don’t be pressured to do something you don’t want to do
Hi! I'm thinking of being a child or school psychologist. What degree level did you get? Does it matter if you get a PsyD or a PhD?
Hi Katelyn M, I love psychology - how exciting that you are interested in it, too! I have a PhD. There is a good discussion of the difference of the two on Psychology Today at: www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/careers-in-psych/201603/choosing-between-phd-and-psyd-some-factors-consider. Good luck with whatever you decide, it is a rewarding field to help people.
Samee🥺❤❤ are u in uni or still in school
I have a 6 years old son.
When he was 3 years old, he started school but because of COVID 19, it was just an online school ... an hour long class where he basically interacted with the class teacher only.
So when he went to school, the next year, he had trouble settling down with new people.
When he was 5 and promoted to the next grade level, the problem persisted.
Now he is 6, and for the third consecutive year, he has social anxiety. He refrains from starting conversations. He categorically said that he does not know how to make friends ...
Please help me.
What should I do?
What has the school done? What resources do they offer? Most have a Social/Emotional Curriculum. If not, they should, especially with the kids coming through who have been affected by COVID. Try some play groups or getting your child into some activities he is interested in where he can interact with other kids in a less formal atmosphere than school.
@LiveOnPurposeTV Thank you so much for your response. The school is asking me to suggest how they may help him. Is there any resource ... May be a book or course that you may suggest for catering to a child with higher emotional needs.
My child is particularly sensitive abouts pranksters. That's really where the anxiety starts.
In child psychology what is the age range ? By the way Doc, u gave the exact talk I wanted to hear. I want to help children as well as adolescent. So is child psy the right decision to make?
Usually under 18, you can specialize. I don't know if it is right for you. If you are considering it, go down the road and see where it leads you.
@@LiveOnPurposeTV thank you so much!
What amazing people :) thank you ✨
Our pleasure!
i am 16 and beginning to think about my future career I really want to work with children with autism or disabilities and study to become a child psychologist. do you have any interesting book recommendations about child psychology or just psychology in general ?
phoebe dicocco, there are so many out there, get some books from your library and just start reading to see what lights you up. Good luck, we need more people like you.
this is literally what i want to do as well
Hi! I am interested in becoming a child psychologist, and I was wondering what different settings you could work in?
Depends, there are private practice, hospitals, schools, university settings, etc. So many opportunities.
Hello I have a question if you wanna to become a child psychologist do you need to pick separate science?
Or is it better to pick?
I am not sure what you mean. Talk to a counselor at your school and they can help you find out what is available in your area.
@@LiveOnPurposeTV ok thank you so much☺️☺️
hey there I am Sena. I study psychology also sociology. i am gonna have PhD in psy but i have heard that it is so hard to be accepted for clinical psy PhD in usa. so i thought maybe i can try developmental psychology too. but my question is that can i own a clinic for children and become a child therapist by developmental psychology PhD ?
I don't know where you want to practice, best to contact the licensing authority to see what they say.
There was a woman who looked like my prom date.
Thanks for watching.
I'm paying for my 11 year old to color in a coloring book at her psychologist. It's pure nonsense.
Carlos Conway, I don't know how many sessions you are in, it could be a way to get her comfortable with the counselor. Ask some questions about the type of therapy they are doing and then do some research. There are different types.
I really want to be a child psychologist , I have a Montessori early childhood diploma what should I study to achieve that ?
You can get a psychology degree. Look for schools in your area and find out what the requirements are. That will help you formulate a workable plan. Good luck!
So are they like behavioral therapists then?
Created Fit, not really.
@@LiveOnPurposeTV Ok. I'll take your advice and call a child psychologist in my area and interview what the job is like. Thank you
After finishing ma english can we go in child psychologist line
It is a fascinating field. I wish you the best.
do your coaches meet people in person ? if so are they all over or just in a certain state?
Patricia white, more coaches are going through getting the Live On Purpose training and will be added shortly. We have some others who use the Live On Purpose models and materials in their coaching practices, not all take Live On Purpose Community member referrals. It depends on the coach if they see clients in person. Many are in Utah, and we have one in South Africa. You can check out the coaching website to learn more info: liveonpurpose.coach/
Thanks for asking!
I want to read complete child psychology because m unable to read even my own son to read his behaviour pllz suggest me
Punam Saharan, I am not sure what you need. I have mentioned a few books before, you might try Love and Logic or my book, Pathological Positivity.
I’m trying to remove a bad psychologist
Not you
The child psychologist was my stepmother
Kristen bussell
I have to not be involved in this but I found no record of her practice
Please teach here how to be a good one or take her listence away
So I’m 12 and when I’ve had my mind set on being a pediatric psychiatrist or pediatric psychologist for about 2 years and ofc I’ve thought about other jobs but I’ve really wanted this one. I’m not sure what to do to become one And I’m very curious. I know a lot about mental health and how the mind works but I also don’t get the best grades because I’m currently in middle school they don’t really teach psychology. I’m not sure which one I should be and I do know the difference between them both. I don’t know what to do to become a pediatric psychologist or psychiatrist when I grow up. (I’ve tried looking it up online but it just confused me and I couldn’t find my answers)
Daisy Wang, you sound very intelligent! Both psychology and psychiatry need a PhD. Don't worry too much about which to choose, just study as much as you can. There will be time as you goes through courses to see what you like. They are so closely related that once you are in school you can decide with the help of your teachers. If you want to see more videos directed toward your age, we have a "Just for kids and teens" playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLq2mRDkHEBPCicx6xcJ5ZJzVe9UBlRTQV. A sincere thank you for watching Live On Purpose TV.
Wanting to teach and get a child psychology major and teaching minor
That would be awesome. One step at a time and you will get there.
@@LiveOnPurposeTV I am a daycare teacher now but watching breakthroughs with behavior or problems makes me excited that what I am doing is helping
I want to be a child psychology but my mom won't let me hsha
I am sure whatever you land on, you will be able to help children in some way.
I have a question. So I am majoring in human development and fmaily studies with a minor in psychology. Is that a good major to go into being a child psychologist?
Amanda Ogbureke, I am not sure where you want to practice, but yes, those are great things to study to learn how to help others.
