I am considering putting those exact pickups in my cheap B.C. Rich Bronze Warlock and I wanted to see them in action, what a great video, but when I saw that LesPaul I thought "Man that flame on there is gorgeous!" and it turned out to be a chibson! I would have bought that from him in a minute, that thing looked awesome, and sounded great with those screamers in there. I will always love Gibsons, but that setup at that price would win out against a $2500-3000 real LesPaul.

That is a beautiful chibby. Sounds great as well. I have purchased a few myself and only lost one to customs seizure. Just ordered a YJM STRAT on Monday, so join me in a prayer for safe landing.
And about you LP, A GREAT GREAT GREAT Pickup for that guitar is the Tom Anderson HN3+ flamethrower. I first tried it in a guitar I built a few years back and I have been blown back ever since. A real powerhouse with huge bottom ends, crystal clear highs and harmonic overtones jumping out with every pluck. Listen to me, I sound like a salesman for Tom Anderson. But yes they are great.

Hey again Max, played these pickups in a live sitation for the first time this past weekend. Holy Cow man! They sound fantastic! Massive amounts of clarity! They cleans were awesome, and when driven by my Rat and OCD, it really shined! Even my band mates were taken aback, they swore I put the volume up in my amp... I didn't, used the same setup. Could't stop smiling when I was playing. Awesome set and for 35 bucks... Kind of crazy if you think about it.

  • @kitsmith3606

Hi Max. A oiece of heat shring tubing temporarily over the sets of wires help my fat fingers feed the pickup wires through. Also the heat shrink tubing can be used for any wires that are not going to be soldered at the time of the installation. I just cut the wire itself off that's not coated and then heat shrink all the remaining wire together with a short piece of heat shrink. Also for many people a blow dryer can get hot enough to shrink the heat shrink tubing.
Thank you for another great video.

I actually thought that the cheap potentiometers were really insensitive until I did the swap and discovered that it was the cheap ass original humbuckers that had virtually no volume range. And the reverse Zebras look really cool as well! I got the screamers on your recommendation Max. So thanks.

I have a set of Dragonfire Tele pickups in my main Tele I built about 10 years ago. I have used several sets for Tele builds for others since then, and they all sounded great-it's a really good, quiet pickup with a much more usable character than the Fender,Duncan, etc. stuff. These are the first humbucker's I've heard, and my Tele's sound a lot like this(the opening riff).
I can say this much-they have held up very well over the last decade, sound much better than the vintage Fender reissues, and would be my first choice for a Tele if using it for harder music. They sound similar to a JB4 Duncan, so it doesn't surprise me at all that the humbuckers sound like this.
I just bought a blade Tele humbucker to put in my Esquire, bought it over the Duncan Little 59, simply because I think they make a good product, not because of it's MUCH lower cost.
Don't let the price fool you, it's good stuff.
After hearing these, I may get a set of them for my Ammoon LP bar gig guitar.
Dragonfire pickups are beer-proof. That alone is a reason to consider these for your gig guitar.
Leave the good stuff at home-I have a 1965 ES 335 in a shoebox, (what's left of it) that taught me THAT lesson.

This is a very inexpensive alternative for someone who wants a LP style guitar and is on a very limited budget but wants better sound, and if this does the trick, why buy an even more expensive pick up. This upgrade allows the user to enjoy music with a better sounding guitar, and they can always upgrade to a brand name guitar in the future if so desired. GR8 video as usual!

I bought a pair of screamers about 4 years ago. The neck pickup sounded great, but the bridge pickup sounded muffled and horrible. TNT/Dragonfire's customer service insisted it was something I wired wrong, but I wired a cheaper pickup where it was and it sounded fine. They wouldn't do anything about it and judging by their ebay feedback, they're quick to blame the customer when their gear is garbage. They claim that everything they sell is tested, but I highly doubt that.

That opening riffage is very reminiscent of an Akira Takasaki/Loudness tone. MEAN! This video alone sells me on these pickups, although I know it's mostly the amp :)

Your pickup review Is basically on point, really like that you test them in clean tone, gain, distorsion etc .. I discovered these mics thanks to your video (i'm waiting for them to be back in stocks or i'll search for other Dragonfire screamers on ebay). You even talked about the wiring and it's so cool. The only problem in the wiring part is that you don't talk about the filtering capacitor you used (if you used one) (i think the usual one is 9nF but sometimes it's 12nF) and you didn't tell us which pots you used. I'll assume these are A250k pots (logarithmic 250k ohms) ?
I'll test it with a simple wiring on my test guitar and come back here (if i don't forget) and tell you what to use.

Great vid. I've been eyeing those exact pickups and had wondered about their overall tone. I'm thinking of using the colored humbuckers (hot pink, neon green & black) in place of the stock Dean humbuckers in my custom zones. Just to get a complete 1 color scheme. Although I am happy with the stock Deans, those Dragonfire pickups would make a nice complete package.
Again thank you for informing others on great bargain gear for us broke musicians.

Hi Russell. I'm glad you found this helpful. Definitely, having so many color options on these is a great bonus! I'm considering putting in some red Screamers in my Firefly ES-335 knock off!

I just got a 2020 Epiphone Les Paul Custom. Love the axe very much but the bridge pickup is a little muddy. Les Pauls can run a little muddy anyhoo so a good pickup with more treble makes a huge difference. And I’m seriously considering this one. I was also looking at the Dragonfire Crusaders, which are like the Seymour Duncan Invaders. I want the Les Paul to be my heavy metal guitar. 🎸🤘🏼

It's really hard to beat Dragonfire for value. They advertise their "Standards" (3 strat pickups) as being Mexi-Strat clones, and they are spot on, 50 bucks will get you a loaded pickguard, upgraded pots, knobs and switch cover, upgraded switch, pickup covers of your choice, and 3 fine sounding single coils. Unbelievable.

Thanks for the video! I have used the Dragon Fire pickups in a build and they are a really good pickup up at an unbeatable price. I am getting ready to put some Calig pickups (California Guitar) in a Tele body. 1st time for this brand, I'll let you know.

I have calig pickups in a Squier Cyclone - A2 single neck and A2 humbucker for the bridge. Love 'em. The Vanson pickups on eBay are good as well. Just added Dragonfire Hexbuckers to my LP copy - swapped the magnets for a A4 neck and A5 bridge and they are great.

Hi Max, love your channel....just some constructive criticism here.......in a video like this, do a 'resolution', meaning when you make some sort of mod, do a test-play where you show off the pickups or whatever the mod is _after_ the install...(essentially move the opening playing to the end of this video and then do your 'outro'). It's just my 2 cents but it would seem like it would have better flow and would make more orderly sense. Tell me to eff off if necessary lol. Just want to see you succeed.

I'm looking for a set of black covers humbuckers for the cheap Harley Benton TE-20HH that I just got. I was thinking about Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz or 59 but these are less than half the cost. The TE-20HH stock pickups are pretty hot and dark, they can play a mean War Pigs tone. But I want something better that can do all genres blues, rock, metal. These DragonFire pickups look promising except I'd like the black covered version they have.

Hey Max! Great demo and awesome playing! You convinced me to buy a pair of these in Chrome for my PRS SE Bernie Marsden (poor mans 59) I wanted a whisper to a scream sound, I play in worship bands as well as a cover band so I need the tonal options. I wasn’t sold on ceramic pickups till I saw this video. Are these Versatel enough pickups to cover a lot of tonal ground?

Hey Max, so I finally got these guys installed into my PRS and played it through my rig. Gotta say, right off the bat the cleans were amazing. They rung out and had this clarity that was missing from the stock pickups. I had to adjust the amp a bit, I play through a Matchless DC30 clone through the low gain channel at 30 watts, once I adjusted the tone and cut, the pickups REALLY sang out, particularly through my Rat and OCD pedals. Got a super lush sound at lower gain settings and stacked together the pickups just ate up the gain and I REALLY cut through the mix. Got a lot of compliments on the tone during rehearsal. Surprised at the versatility and the clarity I got. Overall great purchase!

Great install demo, I've always wondered how to do a guitar w/out a pickgaurd. An f-hole would probably be the bigger challenge. Anywhom, I want to put one dragonfire screamer in the bridge of my Bulletstrat, but am thinking about getting a Harley Benton Paisley as a back up. I have an Epiphone P-90 Special, but generally only run that with a compressor and light modulation. It just sounds horrible imo with much gain. So many mixed reviews on the HB guitars. I think I'm just gonna risk it and order one. My fear is that I will like it so much that I won't even bother modding the Squier, but if that's what happens, I could just buy another HB. I really want to do the one humbucker mod though. I think there's a company that will make a pickgaurd for any guitar if you send them the original, but I'll bet it costs. Anywhoo, peas and chicken!!

this is just my opinion. Majority of the pirated Chinese made guitars have pretty bad sounding pickups. By all means, changing it is the way to go. But I think what you did MaxxwellC is just the PERFECT thing to do. I believe buying high end pickups for a Chibson will be kind of an overkill. There are many decent sounding pickups at reasonable prices. Glad you did it on this one. My only criticism is that I wish the pickups could be a tad brighter....so it can be more versatile.....but again that's just me.

Informative - thanks for sharing. I recetly upgraded my HSS Squire's stock Humbucker with an off-brand thru Amazon. No instructions on purchase for installation wiring as which wire went to what. Different mfg have varying wire assignments. Strange, I think Squier/Fender has white red joined (basic config), bare and green joined and sent to ground, black was hot.
