I’ve been looking for an answer on this. They state 5 years on setting 3 but it’s a little too dim. 4 is perfect and if I can get 4 years that’s freaking awesome!
I have both red dots, the Aimpoint PRO and Trijicon MRO. I like the MRO a bit better because it's half the weight and size of the PRO. It also has a wider field of vision.
You can use the blacked out front cap on a red dot to preserve battery life. By closing the front cap, you’re cutting off any ambient light from entering the tube. The dot will appear brighter on lower power settings, thus saving battery life, and you can still shoot accurately with it using both eyes open. You’ll superimpose the dot over the target normally and press. Also, closing the front cover limits the LED’s signature for anyone looking at you through NVG’s. My T2 is on the #8 setting, which washes out in daylight conditions, but my front cap is closed, so I can use it even on the brightest day.

If you shoot with both eyes open, you can shoot the PRO with the caps closed. The rear cap is clear, so its the same concept as the old OEG sights, your brain will superimpose the red dot into a clear field of view.
I shoot with my mro with the cap closed as well. No issues at 50 yards. But i just made a cutout a "+" pattern on my front cap. Out to a 100 yards i can hit man size with both eyes open but i do better with 1 eye closed. Im getting old
I was going to make the exact same comment. I've had a Pro on my rifle for several years now and I usually leave both caps closed and I have shot it that way just fine. Opening the front is better but not a must if you're in a rush.
Gosh now I'm torn. I was set on the aimpoint but I like the features of the mro. My eyesight isn't great so I don't like small optics or limited fields of view. I will have to see if I can see them both in person and make a decision. Update went to Gander Outdoors and had a chance to view both and the mro is the best option for me. The field of view is muuuuuch better. Not taking away from aimpoint but it felt like I was looking down a funnel and had to bring it much closer in order to make it more acceptable. The mro was more of a grab and go so my money will go with that optic. Glad I was able to view it person vs going on blind faith. This was one of the most helpful videos on the channel.
Sturmgewehr556 I’m seriously debating which one to get for my HK MR556A1. I wish there was only 2 or 3 red dots. Between the eotech and all the long life red dot from Trijicon and Aimpoint it’s tough to choose. 😑

@@rodiculous9464 I've never used a comp m5 but the PRO is a pretty solid red dot. The only complaint I could see someone having is the size and weight.
Having handled both extensively, I don't think it's accurate to say that the PRO's glass is clearly better. It's somewhere between a toss-up or a slight lean towards the MRO.
Noticed you talked about the astigmatism issue. I have a slight astigmatism as well. Makes my Sig r5 red dot look pretty crappy. Just how much did switching to the green dot MRO help with that? thanks for the help!!
I just ordered a MRO with the green dot, I have enjoyed my MRO patrol and wanted to try a green dot one for this next build. I really appreciate your review here. It does help a lot in choosing products.
@9:17 I suppose they went away from the clear front cover because of reflection possibly plus it's not needed. You don't need to flip the front cover down. As long as the rear is open or a clear cover you can still see the red dot on target as long as you have both eyes open. Try it. You will see what I mean and how it works.
Only time I shoot one eye is with a magnified red dot/optic or super precise shooting with a handgun. Both eyes open is the way to go, situational awareness is king
Love the view thru the MRO and its crisp dot, looked thru both the MRO and the PRO at Palmetto armory and walked out with 2 MRO's. That being said I have a aimpoint comp m5 on my mk18.
I avoided the MRO for awhile due to the reported issues and parallax. Tried an Eotech first; liked the clarity and grainy donut reticle, hated the auto-off, short battery life and weight. I wanted Aimpoint form factor with Eotech FOV, so I decided to try a used MRO Patrol. I only have a few hundred rounds with it on my rig, but I really like it so far.
I have a first gen MRO. It does have a tint. It does have slight, but noticeable magnification. It does have a bit more parallax than some. Of course they have fixed some of that in the current version, but none of it bothers me. It has proven to be a great optic in my use. Great analysis.
Nice review. I have both. Pro sits on my BCM 14.5. Mro on one of my primary defense Noveske 10.5 pistol. I like the white board. Makes you look like the Professor of 2A. And I’m back in school 🙂
Michael Srite Both have served me well. I’m actually gonna give my Pro to my dad. Mount and zero on a bcm rifle I built for him at his business. I’d trust my life with either optic for sure
I own both. Honestly, either one is going to be an excellent choice. Though if someone can only afford one.... MRO. Just the overall more compact size plus the increased better field of view. Put a nice LaRue mount on it, and you've got the total package. Bomb-proof durability, the MRO is right there with the PRO.
I love this channel Mike. Been listening for years. However, this vid made me nervous the way you were waving your hands while holding the sights standing on your dock! I really like my green MRO!
Just got a Pro for my AR-15 today. The mount is quite good. I like the ratchet thumb knob. I run it two or three clicks and it feels very secure. I was told the dot was 'super bright'. It's very visible in full sun around 6 clicks. That 1/3N Duracell is the same battery I have on hand for a Crimson Trace laser. They're not going to be in the local store but they're easy to find online.
I have every confidence you got it covered but just the same. The Carolinas are in the blast path of Dorian. Be well. Look forward to more vids. Thanks for keeping the consumer informed. You do your homework, are a good resource, and it is appreciated.
both are great optics, the MRO is newer and used the PRO as a benchmark is why it lasts 40k hours rather than 30k; weight is a real concern for a lot of shooters too so I can see why the MRO is so popular. Personally, just because of battery availability, I'd go with the MRO (2032 batteries can be found everywhere) over the PRO.
I see your point about caps on a fighting rifle. But up north here hunting i use lenses caps on all my rifles. Snow and ice filling objectives ends a hunt
Holographic sights have parallax shift, just set your eotech down on a table in your living room or kitchen and look through it and move your head around. It obviously has parallax, the donut moves everywhere, just tested it with my exps3
I have several aimpoints and love all of them. I recently switched my primary rifle to an MRO because the dot was a lot clearer for my astigmatisms. It’s even clearer than my M4S dot.
I bought the aimpoint pro when it first came out. I cant believe when they first came out they where 300 bucks. I have left mine on for 5years and right at 5 years the battery died. I bought the spare battery compartment for it and stuck a new battery in l, I expect 10 years. Aimpoint pro rules!
Thank you Mr G&G for always answering questions on FB messenger. No other youtuber is as good at responding to questions. You recommend the MRO back in 2016 and 3 MRO’s later it has been my go to red dot rifle optic ever since.
I think they went to the solid front cap because if you're shooting with both eyes open you can shoot with the front cap up with no problem. Your eyes do that thing where they transpose the image. With a clear cap that will inevitably get scratched up and cloudy, it makes it harder because your dominant eye is trying to look through all that crap whereas if the cap is solid black, your dominant eye will kind of shut off and transpose the picture from your other eye. I don't know if the way I explained that makes any sense but this is what I've noticed for myself anyway.
The one thing you missed in your review is the new MRO Green dot. I have 3 MRO's one of which is a green dot. You cannot leave it on setting 4 and forget it (like the red dots). They eat battery life fast. 3-4 months and the battery was dead. Because of that, I will stick with the red dots on future purchases.
I have two PROs and they have been over kill for any thing I've put them through. I'm not gorilla stomping them or anything, but, zero is always spot on and the optic is always left on and not once has it disappointed me. I'm going to have to try the MRO next time I'm in the market.
So the use of a blacked out front cover is to stop any reflection at all. Shooting with both eyes open does not require to flip the front cover open. Front cover not being open stops all glare or reflection of the glass.
I did soooo much research before making a purchase. basically for me it boiled down to looks lol the aimpoint pro just looks cool to me. I don’t really care about weight. And i love trijicon because of the acog in the military. But between these two the winning factor was looks haha I never hear anyone say that the pro looks badass. Is it just me?? 😆
Deployed with the aimpoint, 36y zero, and it definitely survived some shit for being on a secondary weapon. As a gunner it took back seat on the m4 in preference to the .50
I find the MRO parallax is sufficient to alter Iton sight zero. Also the MRO, for me, is not useable with a magnifier. I have several PROs and MROs...something to consider..both are great as stand alone red dots...just the parallax can be a quirk for the MRO for some applicants. I should note I have astigmatism.
The aimpoint pro is useable with the front solid flip cap closed if you shoot with both eyes open. Its similar to the binding aiming concept with a 4x Acog your dominant eye will take over and your aiming eye will see the dot and it all blends together. I believe this is explained in the aimpoint pro user manual.
As an owner of the Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic I highly recommend the Holosun Elite Series scopes with the Multi Reticle System. The Trijicon and Aimpro aren’t as feature rich as the the Holosun and cost more. I would love to see a video from you as how you can use the outline of the larger circle within the Holosun scope to compensate for the mechanical offset on your rifle especially within less than 25 yds.
Where does the Aimpoint T-1 and T-2 fit into this discussion? Do you prefer them over the Aimpoint Pro? why or why not? and if you do prefer them over the Pro do you prefer them over the MRO? Why or why not? I decided to buy an Aimpoint T-2 over the MRO because I thought I'd like the lack of blue tint and the "Proven Factor". The T-2 is absolutely crystal clear and I love it, but sometimes I wonder if the blue tint would mitigate the sun a bit in super bright conditions. Great video as always. Thanks for the information. :)
Had the MRO and it had a slight magnification (even with a post 89k serial number) which bothered my eyes. Ended up buy a PRO and it doesn't bother my eyes. If someone is looking at getting an MRO I would just suggest they try to look through one first.
Both are great options if you don't have astigmatism. If you do the red dot might be more than one dot with halos of light red around it. I'd go with something not red dot related like Acog, Accupower/Accupoint, or Primary Arms ACSS scopes.
I have an astigmatism and when I'm looking through any red dot, I normally see three dots. I just center them up like the Predator does with his shoulder cannon
@@RickJamesGhostGuns I see an explosion of four dots and light tails trailing from them with a halo of light red. Even with corrective lens's it's not precise. I prefer eotech if I have to use something like red dots.
I believe the reason Aimpoints come with black lens caps in the front is to eliminate scope glint. I have noticed that even with the clear lens cap closed it can generate a significant amount of glint if the light hits it in the the right direction. I have noticed this when using them out in the sun. You can also simulate it with a flashlight if you are curious.
I have owned both and now I use Burris if that tells you anything. Also I have used the RMR and it is junk too. I want reliability and glass clarity. I don’t care about a five year battery or if a tank can run over it.
In regards to forgetting to flip the front cap open on your red dot or not having the time to do so before it gets pressed into action shouldn't really be of much concern as long as you shoot "the correct way", meaning both eyes open. Shooting with both eyes open & the front cap closed the red dot will be superimposed onto the target, barring any eye issues. Leaving the front cap closed is a good way to see if a shooter really is shooting with both eyes open as well as being a good method to help teach new shooters how to shoot with both eyes open.
My issued colt R0923CQB has the Aimpoint PRO so my personally owned colt le6945 has the Aimpoint PRO. I have to train with what's issued. Never had a problem.
@@Mrgunsngear nope, no m68. Aimpoint PRO and a Surefire X300 light. I'm LE not military. Almost all of our rifles are LE6946. Mine was tagged ro923cqb.
Hey mike good stuff. I took the spacer off my pro to mount it on my AK with the AK master mount. Pretty heavy package , but man is the rig bomb proof. Just set up another AR and was looking at the MRO, but am still leaning towards an aim point T2
MRO also has lifetime warranty and aimpoint has 10 year(for non professional use). I just sold my compm4 on ebay that I had bought used and after the fees had enough money to buy the mro with mount. May have been kind of a dumb trade but feel more confidant that it should last a lifetime, and if not it will be take care of. My used aimpoint would have had zero warranty since it was second hand. Still love aimpoint though, but do feel the size and features make MRO the better budget choice

Great video. However I would just like to recommend that you write bigger on that whiteboard or zoom in more on you & the whiteboard together. The scenery is beautiful in the background. And if you do want to keep the background scenery on your video Just write bigger on the whiteboard to where what you write on it fills it out more so its easier to see on the video. Now thanks to your video, I think I'm going to order an MRO for my WASR-10 to mount on top of my GG&G AK side rail optic mount. Thanks for the content and video.
Aimpoint says the reason they di the black front cap is because if you're shooting nwith both eyes open you'll still superimpose the dot on what you're seeing. So it doesn't matter if it's up or not, as long as it on.
I`m trying to figure out what a great CQB optic would be on a "budget". I have zero experience in this arena, but it seems institutive that an Eotech type sight would be much quicker target acquisition, versus tube type sight like an Aimpoint PRO or Trinjicon MRO. But the battery life being so much better on the tube-type sights is an issue. But then again, the Eotech, or even Holosun sights being parallax-free is huge. I am stuck and cannot make up my mind. What do I do? And just a side note, I may hope to get a magnifier down the line...
Another good video, would be nice to see the Trijicon MRO VS Aimpoint T2, that’s more often for me at least people ask about, also their newer Comp m5.
I have had the PRO on my duty (LEO) long gun for years and never had a problem with it. I have taken it off the rail multiple times and it is always still zeroed when I throw it back on. I haven't used the MRO so I don't know how good it is.
I shoot red dots with both eyes open and still like the larger field of view. When I bring the rifle/optic up into my field of view the larger glass makes the dot ever so slightly easier to find, in my mind it feels faster but I could be wrong.
Having this same problem myself. Bought one a couple months ago as a backpack/truck gun but haven’t bought an optic yet. I’m probably going with an EoTech exps3 but the battery like sucks compared to comparable red dots so it makes the decision a little trickier. What did you end up going with?
@@joshuamcclintock3732 I ended up getting a Romeo8T! Love it! Easy to zero, battery life is excellent, clear glass, field of view is awesome and it has 4 different reticle options .
Good job comparing the two! I don't have either, but I have an Atibal MCR, works great so far and takes being dropped on the tailgate all the time, lol. For home defense use or any defensive situation, I leave my rear sight up as I co-witness my irons and red dot. I also prefer my AR pistol for ease of mobility, though I'm sure if I did pull the trigger, my ears will hate me, 😂

Every time I watch one of your vids, I notice your beautiful home. Keep up the good work, Mr. Gunsngear!
I see your point about caps on a fighting rifle. But up north here hunting i use lenses caps on all my rifles. Snow and ice filling objectives ends a hunt
You really can’t go wrong with either. Thanks for the review.
I’ve been looking into getting a Aimpoint but you’ve definitely gave me something to think about!!
You’ve outdone yourself yet again Mike; fantastic review!!! Thanks!!!👍🏻👍🏻
Aimpoint. That said the MRO isn’t a bad choice, both are top notch.
can’t go wrong with aimpoint lol they built like tanks next to eotech and acogs
1776ERS the price for em are high but definitely worth it over the budget optics
PRO with the Scalarworks mount is a great combo. 500$.
when i was setting up rifles for HD & Preparedness i went with one lf each....great optics!
I’m about to pull the trigger on a MRO just because of looks 😂
Deployed with the aimpoint, 36y zero, and it definitely survived some shit for being on a secondary weapon. As a gunner it took back seat on the m4 in preference to the .50
And MRO has a verse on it, Christian family company.
I have owned both and also give the MRO the edge for its smaller size and weight. Great video!
I like the category selection , great review! Many thanks!
Indeed
👍
As an owner of the Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic I highly recommend the Holosun Elite Series scopes with the Multi Reticle System. The Trijicon and Aimpro aren’t as feature rich as the the Holosun and cost more. I would love to see a video from you as how you can use the outline of the larger circle within the Holosun scope to compensate for the mechanical offset on your rifle especially within less than 25 yds.
Keep doing comparisons you are the reason I bought a Steiner 1-4 over trijicon 1-4
So keep these coming 👍🏼
Mike, the battery for the aimpoint pro is made by energizer as well as Duracell. it's their 2L76 batter
I have the T2 and love it, but for some reason the blue tint on some optics helps with my astigmatism
One nice reason for a larger diameter optic is it makes it easier to look through with helmet mounted pvs-14's. It's more forgiving.
thanks for the report
Had the MRO and it had a slight magnification (even with a post 89k serial number) which bothered my eyes. Ended up buy a PRO and it doesn't bother my eyes. If someone is looking at getting an MRO I would just suggest they try to look through one first.
High performance (drag racing) engine cases for Harleys are often made from 6061 aluminum
I would like to know if the paralax shift improved on the post 90k mro. I see the test was done before the lense improvement
Brian Alligood agreed

I have a astigmatism and the aimpoint pro I see very clear , I have the mro green dot and it clusters real bad but love the size and weight.
Thank you
I have owned both and now I use Burris if that tells you anything. Also I have used the RMR and it is junk too. I want reliability and glass clarity. I don’t care about a five year battery or if a tank can run over it.
Well done as always. Long time subscriber. Have a great holiday, God Bless!
Thanks; tell your friends!
Never had a problem.
nice
I'd imagine your issued gun has a M68 though?
@@Mrgunsngear nope, no m68. Aimpoint PRO and a Surefire X300 light. I'm LE not military. Almost all of our rifles are LE6946. Mine was tagged ro923cqb.
Appreciate your opinion and time
Hey mike good stuff. I took the spacer off my pro to mount it on my AK with the AK master mount. Pretty heavy package , but man is the rig bomb proof. Just set up another AR and was looking at the MRO, but am still leaning towards an aim point T2
I had the Pro & it was good - but I sold it to buy my second MRO! I love my MRO’s!
Good luck with the weather! Hope all is well mrgunsngear
Thank you
Both are great optics , you can't go wrong with either. Great review
I gutted a Bushmaster xm 15 and built a 14.5 service rifle..I wanted the same look and feel of the ride I had used and loved right down to chopping the rear sight off the grab handel..minus the KA rails I ended up with Midwest drop ins ( I sence did find the KA ) plus the KA fore grip, was going to rattle can it but I haven't got the balls...I did go with the MRO patrol red /green co witness mount and lens covers for a little over 900 bucks..I have a Spikes lower with mid west enhanced anbi lower kit and 3.5 trigger , im doing a spin of MK18 upper and going with an Aimpoint pro...
Sometimes it does come down to which one you like better or which one you have trained more with
Very useful info. Thanks very much for your hard work.
Love my Trijicon MRO and my ACOG 4x :)
The only situation the super bright setting would get used is in snow during a bright sunny day.
Excellent vid. Very informative and minimal gab.
I have both and the mro is the one i like better. Both are great and would have no worries using either to defend the family
Another good video, would be nice to see the Trijicon MRO VS Aimpoint T2, that’s more often for me at least people ask about, also their newer Comp m5.
thank you
Excellent presentation/comparison.
The MRO is my favorite red dot 🔴 by far!
I have had the PRO on my duty (LEO) long gun for years and never had a problem with it. I have taken it off the rail multiple times and it is always still zeroed when I throw it back on. I haven't used the MRO so I don't know how good it is.
thanks for the report
Thank you sir. Most of my fellow deputies watch your channel and appreciate what you do. Thanks from Robertson County Sheriff's Office, TN.
Just ordered an MRO because of this video 🤙
One great thing about the aimpoint pro is how fast you can adjust to the dot.
What do you think about the complaints about the MRO having a small amount of magnification? I've been hearing a lot of people talk about it.
Great video as usual, thanks. Very helpful
Thanks; tell your friends!
I shoot red dots with both eyes open and still like the larger field of view. When I bring the rifle/optic up into my field of view the larger glass makes the dot ever so slightly easier to find, in my mind it feels faster but I could be wrong.
Duly noted
I just picked up a Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW . What mount and optics would you buy? It will be my home defense gun/Truck gun. EOtech, Aimpoint, or MOA?
Having this same problem myself. Bought one a couple months ago as a backpack/truck gun but haven’t bought an optic yet. I’m probably going with an EoTech exps3 but the battery like sucks compared to comparable red dots so it makes the decision a little trickier. What did you end up going with?
@@joshuamcclintock3732 I ended up getting a Romeo8T! Love it! Easy to zero, battery life is excellent, clear glass, field of view is awesome and it has 4 different reticle options .
Did you end up going with the mro?
Good job comparing the two! I don't have either, but I have an Atibal MCR, works great so far and takes being dropped on the tailgate all the time, lol. For home defense use or any defensive situation, I leave my rear sight up as I co-witness my irons and red dot. I also prefer my AR pistol for ease of mobility, though I'm sure if I did pull the trigger, my ears will hate me, 😂
Love both the PRO and the MRO, love the MRO just a bit more. Would still buy the PRO for specific applications.
