Lots of solid chuckle moments in this; also TY for dispelling the “tool watch” fallacy… I dive with a fixed bezel kontiki because I know a dive bezel aint getting used under water. It feels cool, that’s why I do it.

I got into hand tool woodworking a few years ago. Found I really enjoyed buying, restoring and sharpening saws, chisels and hand planes. I really admire the craftsmanship and design of these items and knowing that with basic maintenance, they'll outlast me. But the fact of the matter is, when it comes to actually getting work done, I go with my powertools, partly because they're faster, partly because I lack the skill and insight to properly utilize hand tools.
Mechanical tool watches are the same. I love dive watches, and I love mechanical movements. I have zero interest in diving, but if I did, I wouldn't use a mechanical movement watch. I'd use a diving computer.
There's a whole simulacra/simulation conversation to be had here, but the internet and modern white collar work has eroded my ability to think deeper than the depth of a piss creek, so you'll have to make due with my meandering story.

I like this watch. Mainly because reminds me of my all analog G-SHOCK GWR-B1000. Both have carbon cases, sapphire crystals and rubber (mine is carbon fibre reinforced) straps. The two biggest differences are: price and shock resistance. I mean the AP is a little bit more expensive and far less shockproof. I am quite happy with my G-SHOCK.

7:30 from the argument that starts here, picture this, all these expensive watches suddenly become available for around 500 dollars each. Which would you pick? Suddenly it's all about the ones you like the look of. Would you still buy rolex when you could buy a patek or ap? Funnily enough, this is what happens when you enter the world of super replicas, all these watches that you might dream of owning can now be obtained for 500 dollars. Sure they're only 99% identical and a few might need modding, like the royal oak and nautilus bracelets and cases, but overall you get amazing watches for great prices. So you might start to also wonder how much the real ones are actually worth, like from these reps you'd think about 300 to 400 just for the materials and most of the machining excluding hand finishing work on some like the ap's and pp's, but besides that how much does the engineering, r&d and marketing really go into the final price tag? Personally I'm never really going to buy any of these brands even tho I could, maybe if it's solid gold, otherwise nope.

  • @SinnerAndSaint

Very interesting to hear your opinion about the wearing comfort. I actually owned the exact same reference (15710ST) and it felt quite good with my even smaller 6.5" wrist. Yeah it looked big and bold but that was exactly the look I was aiming for. My strap was extremely comfortable but yeah it was quite top heavy. But that didn't lead to a descent in comfort. Funny enough I also bought it in 2019 and sold it after around 9 months of ownership. Not because it was too big or whatever. The only complaints I had were the rubber crowns that are probably done in a few years and need to be replaced by a 'reasonable' amount of money and the lume was just sh*t. Even the dial pattern didn't have anything I would say 'ow, look at this 20k piece!'. Compared to some GS watches it was simply underwhelming - to me. In the end I sold it because the (very beautiful!) movement suddenly stopped working. Luckily within the warranty time span even I bought it used at that time. The AP service center managed to send the watch back to me 3 times - always with new scratches even on the screws like a 1-day-newbie apprentice tried to open it without any knowledge about how a screw works. It was laughably ridicolous. Customer experience (here in Germany) was simply sh*t as well. That was were I decided to never buy an AP again. Even tough I really like their RO designs, especially the Offshores. Thanks!

As a retired Certified Swiss Master Maison(CSOMH), I purchased this piece pre-owned in 2015 at a very fair price from a former source. Having been a luxury Collector for 44+ years, I was looking for a Carbon piece, and the 15706AU.OO.A002CA.01 fit the bill🤙
I would obviously only recommend this as a secondary, ancillary or tertiary wear, as though the Offshore Collection is more robust than the standard Oak Collection, this is still not a primary/daily wear piece.
Overall I've been very happy with it though it doesn't get much wrist time as I swap this out with a carbon PAM when I want the black watch look, which isn't often, lol
Nice vid & comments, especially regarding the present day luxury divers doubling as "tool watches," 😂😂🤙

      Hey @@rajmehta6210, I hope all's well👊
Great watch, as my Bro has one(1242) and that's actually the one that I wanted however I buy most of my watches Pre-Owned, especially my PAMs, and my source had a Sub Carbotech 2616(47mm), so I get/got what he's got, lol
Though I wanted this one in 42 ideally, I've got the original Bronzos along with the 389, which is probably my most worn PAM, so I'm comfortable with the 47mm size.
That said, the 42 Carbotech is a beautiful piece that is striking without overpowering the wrist, and I think that you'll really like it🤙
