  • In this video, I am exploring what it is like to fly on the iconic Antonov An-2. I had never flown on that type before and I was really curious about it. The An-2P version is used by an Uzbek airline called Humo Air on a regular scheduled service between Fergana Airport (FEG) in Eastern Uzbekistan and the Uzbek exclave of Sokh (Soʻx). The flight operates 3-4 times a week, subject to change, depending on the weather. Note that I recorded my footage in early October 2023 and things may have changed since then.
When I came to the airport the first day, I was too late and the flight had already left. So instead, I just explored the city of Fergana on that day. The city truly surprised me positively.
The next day, I went back to the airport and was able to purchase the ticket to Sokh which cost me UZS 300,000 for a round trip (150,000 one-way).
The flights were incredible, passing both deserts and mountains. And all the people I met were very friendly and helpful.

not even 25 bucks for a return flight offering such amazing views and a unique experience is quite a deal breaker!

An2 is timeless, it was already oudated in 1939, when he first designed it but it was put on hold due the the war with germany, started built in 1947. china has been building on lincense for along time. it is not as small as people think. i flowed on one in the past, it was basically with the sheeps from inner mongolia to Shanxi

I am not kidding; these Antonov uses M14 engine that is proven design used in Russian aerobatic planes like Su26,29,31; the bi-plane wings are fundamentally stronger than single wing, besides you are not flying very high, no cabin pressurization is needed. These biplanes should have much lower landing speeds than jets, so if the engine quit you just crash land anywhere and walk away (unlike jet which needs a long runway)

Its a Piston engine prop and the cabin is not compressurise like the jet liners so I'm shure its safe. Just make shure the cables are in good shape and the engine compression are good. This would make it a great tour plane.

If it’s been flying for 55 years, it’s pretty safe.

If an AN-2 experinces and engine failure the manual tells the pilots to pull the stick back and the aircraft will literally fall down as if it's on a parachute.

Would I fly the Antonov AN-2? More than likely not. I would rather let the flight crew do the flying.
