This is exactly the kind of content that we need more of for KDM! Considered, articulate, light on spoilers and a focus on the almost intangible greatness of Adam Poots’ artistic vision. For those who this unique game speaks to, Kingdom Death: Monster is a wonderfully dark escape from the harsh realities of life and is one that shines its lantern light on the fundamental beauty and essence of nature’s struggle to persist. I salute you sir! Fantastic stuff. Subscribed!
Thank you for the kind comment! Hopefully I can keep up the appearance of being articulate well into the future 😆 I'm hoping to have some more KDM-centric videos out soon, and if all goes well I should be able to provide some painting goodness too. Glad to have you around!
It seems we are in a very similar phase in our hobby journeys! I too have been painting Warhammer for a good number of years without ever finishing an army or ever playing a proper game of 40K or Horus Heresy. Kingdom Death is quite freeing: I can focus all my energy on one big monster miniature without having to worry if I’ll ever have the mental energy to finish 50 of the same plastic person! Great video!! Keep it up! Hell you inspired me into consider making my own vids on KDM!
On a similar note - you also don't have to worry about buying, painting up a unit and loving how they turn out only to have them wiped out in one turn or perform poorly. Everything you paint can be used without worry, especially the monsters! And hey, if you feel like it, give it a go! We can always use more KDM content on here 😄
@@noct_urnal lmao that’s a great point! I also enjoy the kdm release schedule, I truly believe GW is releasing way too much stuff. Or maybe I get excited too easily haha KDM kinda allows you to better plan purchases with their sales centered around the same holidays every year!
@@LupercaliaXVI No, I know exactly what you mean - or maybe I get too easily excited as well 🤣the KDM release schedule is a lot more manageable. I just wish I was a faster painter!
I been playing KDM since 2017 and the best advice i can give to new players is the core game is enough and go in blind. alot of the game and story is discovered through trial and error and remeber that you not any one survivor you are the settlement.
In KD:M's infancy the creator made pinup art and mini's to help support himself and whomever was working with him at the time. He still makes them basically because he wants to keep the people that supported him for all these years. The "lewd" art in the base game is rarely sexy... more disturbing and more in line with the themes of the game. However, many of those pinup mini's can be used in the game regardless and some even come with game legal additions, if you are so inclined. Nowadays, "pinup" coming from them can still be sexy, but many have taken to just being cool or interesting, with little stories and lore tidbits to boot.
Dropping the full support package! I haven't even heard of KDM until now, seems interesting though miniature games are so hard for me to get into. Especially being everyone plays Warhammer and that star wars miniatures games.
This is the coolest board game related video I've ever watched. Please tell me you plan to make more KDM videos, perhaps creating intros for each monster like you did for the White Lion here with your own unique twist and dialogue? Anyway, just wanted to say great job, loved this. Thanks I will have to get a game going again soon!
I love this game so much, i'm practicing painting minis on other games and figures before even attempting to paint my starting survivors and white lion despite having all existing gameplay content and more coming
Definitely not a bad idea! I have plenty in my backlog too... if you find yourself needing any help or advice I can recommend the Lantern's Reign discord - I'm in there daily and it's filled with helpful people! discord.gg/9MnfyX3S
Agreed, the price is definitely up there. For me personally I know it's probably the only game I'll ever really have now, but I can imagine how people with plentiful collections might be put off... it's a beast in both content depth and cost 😅
I bought it during the Black Friday sale for 50% off which was much easier to swallow. And considering we've been playing it 1-3 times a week since Christmas I feel like I have gotten a good return on investment. Better than a game that I only spent 60$ on and played 3-4 times total.
Nice video. You got a new subscriber. KDM is really good game. It's my favorite board game. I was introduced by a friend and currently we are playing the Gambler Chest Expansion it on TTS. Here created an awesome scripted mod, here is a proof if someone else is interested.
shout out to my man who said about grim and darkness but the first miniature that appear when i search the game is a anime bunny girl🗣️ anyway, THANKS BRO! i have been trying to know more about the game for years because the art is very cool, but there's no lore video or a good one explaining how the game was made, which is very sad because the game don't exist in my country and probably never will
Same here! After uni I had 0 interest in carrying on with the hobby, and I was contemplating selling everything and just moving on. I also didn't find any interest in video games, music etc. then I luckily came across KDM, and my passion was completely reignited - and the thought of selling all of my collection seems completely wild to me now
Well... it's an amazing game with a spectacular world, esthetically pleasing, but... nowadays, my sanity isn't as it was when I was younger... I might sound like one of the Lovecraft heroes, but that adventure is lil bit out of my league. I wonder if my disturbed mind will ever find a game for him... most games are too vanilla for me and the rest are bringing me to the place I wanted to escape in the first place...
Honestly it's sounds like a souldsborne, Dark dungeon, actual A rated game, and to be honest a ligtht RPG... like all the vaule comes from the high concpt and not the game, lore, art or concpt... Also I've heard those mini are GW quality but how? And why is there a thick rule book and the game $400 when it lacks in well everything? Edit: Which the game's comiption seems to be free light RPGs not well any GW product yet it has a $400 starter box which would make GW blush at that price.
Underrated? Unknown? Its one of the top game on BGG, man. Its not underrated, and its not unknown. It is tho fairly expensive and hardcore in terms of gameplay - and thats why you rarely see it on more "casual" tables.
I would have to disagree. Perhaps it's well-known to boardgame folk, but neither me or my circle are a part of that - and so despite knowing about Warhammer, Infinity, Bolt Action, Legion, War Machine etc. etc. KDM was completely unknown to us. To a wargaming crowd, I would say it is pretty unknown. Underrated is perhaps a bit of a stretch, but it definitely got your attention 😅
I think KDM requires more investment up-front compared to Warhammer, but imo I'd say most (if not all) Warhammer armies cost more than the core KDM set in order to get properly playing, especially around the 2k points mark. Games like Kill Team and Warcry excluded, of course. The single model prices seem comparable, depending on what content comes with them
@@noct_urnal Aye, this is the short of it. You can 100% get Kingdom Death up and running for cheaper. Drop $450 for KDM core and you're set. Drop about as much on one faction in 40k and you're anywhere from

@@GreenBlueWalkthrough Then look at their black friday sales prices, when the game comes down to $300. No intro to the world, no explanation of what kind of game this is, no link and not even any explanation of gameplay. You really didn't do this game any favors.
I think "rip off" is a bit of a strong statement. The creator of the game hasn't been shy about showing his love for the series, and I believe that he has even directly stated that Berserk was a huge inspiration to him. If Kingdom Death was all overtly ripped Berserk content I'd be inclined to agree with you, but as it stands there are simply references and an appreciation for the media, the rest being an original work. If you're a Berserk fan, as I am, why don't you check it out? You may be pleasantly surprised, especially if the oppressive atmosphere is something that resonates with you
And Berserk “ripped off” Conan the Barbarian and Elric of Melniboné according to its creator. Stories are inspired by other sources, that’s not ripping off. Berserk didn’t invent dark fantasy, it’s been around for a long time.
i love how you articulated the unique joy of Kingdom Death in this video 🖤and i'm so flattered by your recommendation, thank you!
Thank you kindly. And no problem, it is well deserved - you have so many useful and informational videos for the sim, it's a goldmine!
