  • Children of Men does something very few movies have pulled off. Two of the best one shots in movie history. Long one shot's are very technical and difficult to pull off, but with Alfonso Cuarón in the directors seat, he makes it look easy.

I saw Children of Men in theaters. Those two scenes left a very, very noticeable stillness. Truly awe inspiring.
I think one of the reason the oner is so mesmerizing is because it is one of the few types of shots that feels great even if you know how it is done; it may even work better with you going “wow, how did they do that?!” It calls specific attention to the fact it is a movie but unlike a CGI special effect that boils down to “the computers did it”, part of the fun is wondering how it was done.

From this comment alone I can already tell you don't really understand how basic concepts work so let me explain it very simply. When times goes by people tend to forget things. Especially very bad things. The way the brain works is you will usually remember great things like good songs, good movies etc. Which in turn gives you this biased opinion that "things before were better", but really it just means your brain just forgot about all the bad things of the past. We're nostalgic about good things, not bad things. We only remember the good movies and music of old so in turn less intelligent people usually come up with the ignorant opinion of "things before were better", hence this painfully ignorant comment of yours.

To this day Children of Men is my favorite movie, and has the best cinematography that I have ever witnessed. The camera is always showing you what you need to see to progress the story, or build the world. I loved the scenes where they would pan over a new characters belongings, like on their bookshelves or the mantle of their fireplace, while simultaneously having a conversation in the background. You, as the viewer get the history of this character, through their belongings, and you progress the story in real time through the dialogue happening at the same time. The long shots are incredible, and if I remember right, there's almost a correlation, where the longer the shot, the more intense the scene. Love love love this film and consider it so underrated.

There was a time that I watched Children Of Men
    2 or 3 times a week or
    every night. I never tired
of the great story, the amazing
    Set design, the intelligent
    acting and dialogue - the
    comparison to The Handmaid's
Tale - the movie from 1996.
I was frustrated that I had
no one to talk to about this
    Sympathetic dystopian film!
    It's science fiction without
    Aliens, robots or space ships!
    The story about worldwide
    Infertility affected every
country on earth at the same
    time! I will never forget
    Clive Owen and Michael
    Caine's great performances as
    well as the great special
    Effects that went into
    Creating the baby and
    Bexhill's prison camp!
    I am forever grateful to
    Alphonso Cuaron's inspiring
    Vision of what these people
    went through! Maybe someday
they can write and direct another film about what
    Happened to Marion after
    they through her into the
    Metal prison. Good idea.

Children of Men is one the first movies to very leave me thinking about the cinematography and pondering how in the hell they pulled it all off. It is easily one of my a time favorite movies of all time. I've probably seen it 25 times and am still on the edge of my seat through each viewing. It's still has not lost its impact, despite my knowing exactly what is about to happen. It's pacing is on the slower side at times, yet it uses that to great effect whenever it ramps up, leaving the viewer with little chance to process what is happening in real time. Such an amazing film.

I don’t know how, given that the show’s been recently renewed, season 4 comes out soon, and you’ve already done an episode on teen titans, but I would really like an episode on young Justice. It is one of my favorite dc animated shows and, in my opinion, has done a great job making us care for every character and their storyline, bringing new and creative ideas no matter how much we know them in every season!

The Protector's stair fight scene. Best one shot ever for me, personally. Less technical and more physical than CoM, but amazing nonetheless.

Unrelated, but there is an episode of the show Mr Robot, where they do not speak a word throughout the 40 or so minutes of the show, the whole thing is so tense and action packed, that I genuinely did not realize the no speaking part. This is similar, you forget that you're watching tv for a moment

The drumming segments in Birdman were awesome, I have no idea how that was timed so perfectly. The music going from background music to actual drummers on the street and then back to background must have been tough to pull off.

Rewatching it on TV made me understand the story, but when watching it on the big screen with the big sound just made me FEEL the movie; I was there with them, all time. It was an experience, not only a film

This amazing movie made me aware of this One shot concept in movies. I was watching the car scene and had to rewind it at least 10 times to check for scene cuts and for my amaze... There were none. Then, the huge war scene made me a huge fan of this concept.

It is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen, a movie where I came out of the theatre a different person from when I walked in. I remember the whole experience, thinking how extraordinary it all was - the acting, the cinematography, the story, the camerawork... but mostly I was shaken by how prescient it felt. only Terminator 1 and 2 and Bladerunner are in the same league IMO.

I love how oners make a movie feel like live theatre - it's down to the work and artistry of humans which is pretty cool. Robert Altman's The Player has a long single shot at the beginning which is awesome, if less high octane

The transition to the next shot from the first scene is when the camera exits the vehicle. The frame of the car passing over the screen is the perfect place to do a wipe and is standard procedure.
