This game came out when I was in high school and what a game changer it was. If you had seen a game called Pit Fighter, it reminded me of that at first, but I quickly realized this was a whole other ball of wax! Legendary!
Same thoughts about the Pit Fighter characters but the game was awful. I must say I was a bit disappointed when MK for SNES came out because lack of violence. Sega version was better when they kept a little bit of blood and violence.

Brilliant play through! When it was announced of the new MK1, I was kinda hoping they would remaster this version. Now I’m glad they’re not gonna butcher this classic of an arcade game. Long live MAME and the ability to play this game on a big screen.
I sincerely love this game , it's full of bug and the gameplay isn't really the best but it's the only MK that gives a sense of crude and visceral, the characters are not full of steroids or fancy outfits, have no combos and the blows are more lethal. I still think the MK2 is the best but MK is something.
What I like about this series is that even though a LOT of characters have been introduced, the original 7 playable characters are still main characters and integral to the plot.

I always like how people always think the color scheme and how dark mkx is people always think that's how mk is suppose to be. Yet in the game the outfits are much brighter there's a few backgrounds in mid daylight and shang tsungs room is all right and bright.
Open MAME and go to "General Settings > Video Options" turn on the HLSL option, save the settings. Open the game, press the TAB key, enter the "Slider Control" option, and you will be able to adjust the RGB color, brightness, saturation, number of scanlines and other various options to leave the image as you prefer.

I left a comment about shadows. I can't find it. It's just the spotted pixel shadows look really sega-esk. And that was an ugly port. I mean even the saturn had these horrible pixeled checkered patterns. Go solid black. It's so much more beautiful. This isn't criticism. Just an opinion. Only reason I care is because I'm so damn stoked for this. You sir are awesome

MK 1 - 3 had such a soul to them, it was so new and mind blowing when it first came out...plus all the little easter eggs were awesome.
