When using a matrix power amp you are best leaving the power amp modelling of the axe fx turned on. The matrix power amp has a flat response so by leaving power amp modelling turned on in the axe fx you can still get the power amp tones of the amps you are modelling.
Great review. I'm with you on the idea that the Matrix seems to find extra detail and depth in patches.

How do you set up the matrix for a 8ohm 120w cab mono?
Is there a way to set the wattage output ? let's say you run a 50 watt cab ?

David, I strongly recommend that your check out the Rocktron Velocity 300.
The Axe Fx2 into a matrix 1000 to a 2x12 cab is my set up as well and yes it is an amazing match!!

David...I will honestly say that's the best I've heard your guitar sound, and I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now. Out of curiosity, what were the speakers in that cab and what mic were you using?

is the laney just a vc 30 cab or a vc30 combo but using the speaker?

so did you bail on the whole Xitone approach or are you running them together with a real cab now?
I have this same guitars, the pickups are the DiMarzio Ibz pickup set, those are produced exclusively for Ibanez guitar when they just come out of the factory. These pickups are not available seperately i.e. you can't buy it. However, the design of the Dimarzio Ibz neck is based on the DiMarzio Super 2, and that of the DiMarzio Ibz bridge is based on the DiMarzio Super Distortion. They sound very similar to these Ibz, the only difference is the higher output.
Do you get a lot of noise with the Axe FxII and Matrix (humming or hissing)? I've heard the Axe FXII has a very loud fan as well, is that true? Awesome playing....keep posting!
man, the axe fx is like an amp head? to play and derive a sound i need an axe fx and cabinet (of course guitar too) ??

David, did you have the power amp sims and cab sims turned off in the axe?
I really like a bassy tones when playing clean, to me it feels warmer and is better if you're playing alone.
What is the 1U & 2U?
That means you have to have both sims for your cab and sims for the PA... Not really efficient or am I missing something?
No, I deactivated the cab sims in the Axe FX..

I have recently gone from using DI through a line 6 POD X3 Pro.. to using a Laney Lionheart and 2 x 12 cab... Like you say.. the difference is amazing... As good as studio monitors are.. they do not have the sound or feel of a real guitar cab... :)

The 1U is much quieter than any tube power amp you could use. I have the extremely quiet 2U version for studio use and because a near silent set-up's kinda cool. With that and an Axe-FX running, the tiniest noise floor drowns both out easily.
I have a gt 1000 I run 2 4x12. Cabs powers my axefx2 in a band situation with ease

A 6L6 power tube gives so much more harmonics and vivd live sounds is almost incomparable with a solid state PA...
IMO they are not the best pup`s. Sounds good here though. I had a guitar with those, and all my other guitars sounded better (to my taste, of course), so i tried a couple of other DiMarzio`s and ended up with ToneZone in bridge/Fred in neck.
Now my fav pup`s are Suhr Aldrich`s and DiMarzio 36th and AT-1 for humbuckers.
Suhr ML for vintage SC and DiMarzio Cruisers for a little fatter singlecoil.
A poweramp will always make the sound a a guitar modeller sound better in ALL WAYS.
I was sold at 1:39-1:40, so nice. Unfortunately I don't think my wife will feel the same.

I bet in a jam setting a Marshall or a mesa would bury that thing.

Mate, A mesa or a Marshall would be at most 150W (Triple Rectifier only). This is up to 800W.
