    Those who hold CISSP but no degree and looking at PMP - PMI confirmed that since CISSP is RQF 7 and considered a Masters equivalent in UK/EU, it DOES count as a degree (as it should) so you just need 36 months of project experience.

    Hey Alvin, I have run a Residential Moving company which PMI says counts as a managing projects. My concern for writing my application is that to fill the entire time requirements (which i more than exceed) would be a ludicrous amount of work as most of my work only lasts 1 day. I have done some larger multiple day jobs but in order to properly meet requirements I would have to list hundreds of jobs in my application. How would you suggest I go about tailoring my application to the PMI process? Do you have any thoughts on how many projects I should include when most are only 1 day? thanks for any insight

I would just like to know when applying for the PMP , do I simply just type in the 35 hours needed for the PMP exam by the "Qualifying Hours " section or do I insert the full 81.5 hours that I was given to me? Will PMI know that I have 81.5 hours or do you have to submit that supporting documentation to show that you will still have hours left after applying for the PMP ?

    • @alvinthepmofficial
      @alvinthepmofficial  6 месяцев назад +2

      My apologies on the super late response on this - the outcome is whether the project was successful or not (think of this as the results that the project achieved). The deliverable is tied to what was produced or created as a result of delivering the project to the customer (for example - a physical tangible product, a software release, or a service). Hope this helped!

    How particular PMP is to calculate experience in the past 8 years? I do qualify but neck-neck .
    As per their 8 years concept, validity as per today would be from 2015 Feb - 2023 Feb Correct?
    Is it okay to mention the actual start year of the project like 2013? Although the experience is calculated from 2015 ?

    Hi Alvin, this video is the best out of all I found on youtube for the PMP application. I really appreciate. My questions is, you have mentioned to write Project lead as role, which I was for the project but my role in the organization was design engineer which is there on my Linkedin and official letters as well. Isn't that risky?

    • @alvinthepmofficial
      @alvinthepmofficial  8 месяцев назад +2

      So glad you found the video helpful! No, it isn't risky, because you'll specify that your Role was the Project Lead (in your Project Description), but your Job Title is a Design Engineer (in the box that you fill out). As long as you specify this explicitly in the form, you'll be fine. I did this as well with my application (I was an Engineer, but still led & managed projects), and I was not audited by PMI.

    Hi Alvin, thanks for the great video! I have a quick question, my projects usually last 3 to 6 months, therfore I will have to list a lot of projects to acount for 36 months. Do you think this will be perceived as problem with my application?

    • @alvinthepmofficial
      @alvinthepmofficial  2 года назад +3

      @Vida, If possible, I encourage you to filter all of your projects and choose the projects which are the longest in duration, and also the ones which you've demonstrated experience across all phases of the project's life cycle (Initiation to Closure). I had this same issue myself, and I narrowed down my projects to only a few projects. Just keep in mind that if you have a large handful of projects (let's say, for example, a qty of 12 projects), then you will have to write 12 "mini-essays" for each of your project descriptions. If you're able to choose projects which lasted 6 months each, then you should have about 6 projects to list on your application. Hope this helps clarify!

    Very much appreciated Alvin. Great video. Two quick questions: (1) if I've carried several scientific research projects (as a research associate in a University and as a freelance researcher to another University) in which initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and control, and closing were applied, does this count towards "Project Management" experience?? (2) Also, must I have responsibility in all 5 process groups for each project??

    • @alvinthepmofficial
      @alvinthepmofficial  2 года назад +2

      Really glad that you're finding the video helpful! Here's my feedback:
      1. Just be sure that these are not 'internships' but are actually projects you've led as part of your Professional working experience (meaning, after you've graduated from the University).
      2. As long as you can demonstrate experience across all 5 Process Groups when taking into consideration ALL of your projects, then you should be all set. In other words, you don't need to have managed every project through Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing. For example, it's okay if you only led one project from initiation to monitoring & controlling, but not closure. However, you'll need to have listed at least one project showing that you led a project during its Closing phase.

  • @raechelboston
    @raechelboston Год назад +1

    Hi Alvin, for the responsibilities section, can you state the same things for each project? Or will that be a red flag? I mean each project would/should essentially follow the same components, correct? ie kick off to close (inititation, planning, execution, m&c, closure)

    • @alvinthepmofficial
      @alvinthepmofficial  Год назад +1

      @raechelboston, I struggled as well differentiating my projects on my own PMP Application. What I did (and what I recommend) is to describe different Tools & Techniques you used for each project. For example, brainstorming to generate ideas for prototypes and leading customer interviews to obtain feedback on the prototypes. That way, the projects you list on your application won't sound 'exactly' the same. As long as you follow the guidance in my video and Application Cheatsheet, you'll be on the right path to success! Hope this helped!

    Hi Alvin...Thanks for the great video. I have a question regarding the PMP application project description. I worked in a company for 4 years and I have handled 4 projects in the same company. All the four projects are mostly similar. So even if I think of description I pretty much get the same content because the process and stuff are similar. How do you suggested I fill the project details?

      Really glad you found the video helpful for filling out your application! I had experienced the same challenge as well, since some projects typically might have the same processes and scope. What I did differently was that I gave a little bit more detail with how my projects were executed - for example, specific issues that may have arose during design or testing, and risk mitigations that our team implemented to developer a higher quality product for our customer. Hope this helped!

    I have a question that i hope you (or someone on here) can help me with. I'm taking a Udemy course to fulfill the 35 hours of education required to apply for the exam. Outside of that, I don't want to sink a ton of time or money into preparing for a test I might not even get to take. My question is, once the application is approved to take the PMP exam, how much time does one have to take and pass it?

    • @alvinthepmofficial

      PMI does not require you to have experience managing all three types of approaches. So for example,, if you only have Waterfall experience, you could list that for all your projects, and vice versa for the remaining approaches, and that would be accepted on your PMP Application

I just signed up for the udemy course, so I'm not there yet, but was wondering because I'll want to take some time to study more between the app approval and actually taking the test...and wouldn't want anything to lapse.

    1) So the Udemy course you recommended by Joseph Phillips is accepted as a legit 35-hour education on Product management for the exam?
    2) I have worked as a Project Manager mostly on ongoing projects. For example, we have a client where we maintain and update their webpage. But it was a "project" with no end. Does this count also as experience?

      If you can demonstrate 3 years of experience on your application that you actually led or managed projects in your professional career, then I'd encourage you to go for your PMP Exam. For example, I had worked as an Engineer previously, but I still used my Engineering projects as experience on my application, because I had led and managed projects. I used that experience in my PMP Application and my application was accepted by PMI. If you still need to get the experience with managing projects, then I'd recommend going for the CAPM Certification, since it doesn't require any experience in project management. Hope this helps!

      I haven't personally used the CSM training to qualify for my PMP Certification. But, from reading PMI's requirements on their website, it seems that, as long as you can show that you meet the 35 hours of project management education/training from a provider, then you should be fine.
