  • When a car engine consumes a lot of gasoline, it is due to the failure of the two GASOLINE CONTROL SENSORS.
The first sensor in charge of CONTROLLING GASOLINE DELIVERY is the MAP sensor that measures the pressure of the intake manifold under different load conditions.
When the MAP sensor has problems then the engine computer delivers a higher fuel rate than necessary, causing poor gas mileage.
The second sensor responsible for controlling the delivery of gasoline to the injectors and controlling the ignition timing of the injectors is the oxygen sensor.
The engine oxygen sensor measures the presence of remaining oxygen in the exhaust gases and informs the engine computer so that combustion is optimal.
If the oxygen sensor fails then as with the MAP sensor, the engine computer delivers more gasoline to the engine in all operating modes: idle, acceleration, deceleration.
