I think that reapers should still have to sell flags at the hideout, as the whole point of the hideout is that everybody knows where you're going to sell as a reaper. It is supposed to make up for the massive increase in money you earn.
I agree. Perhaps a compromise being you can only sell Athena flags to the skellie at outposts? Everything else you still have to sell at reapers if you want the emissary buff.
I like the idea of giving the players choice, so you can sell to reaper's and get money and reaper rep, or you can sell all other flags to the stranger at the outpost and gain less gold but a small boost in rep for the appropriate flag, as long as it's level 2 or higher (stopping a grind) To me it makes sense in lore to give honour to the fallen emeserys, and outside of that the amount of level 3/4 Athena flags I always find when I spawn in 😂 I also like the idea to potentially mount a falley flag onto your ship; as it might encourage natural PvP people wanting to get their em back, or just as another part of the sandbox gameplay.
There's also complaints about not being able to sell as fast as the sovereigns. I don't think the sovereign kind of setup would be an appropriate fix, but moving the reaper closer to the docks might make it feel better.
@@TheShallowNight the remounting of the flag needed to be a thing since they put emissaries into the game. Alternately, you should be able to return your fallen flag to the faction you got it from for the same value that you'd get for lowering it.
The problem is that Season Eight, the savior to pvp, adds tangible incentive to cheating in Sea Of Thieves. You sink a player ship, you get progress. Even in arena, sinking a ship would be wasteful considering the cannon farming strat, and even then less pvp-inclined individuals could win by getting the chest. There's just never been enough incentive to sink ships until this season, and that with the expanding demographic that includes drawing in cheaters from other games that have a larger culture around cheating means that this was bound to happen, and bound to get dire this season.

The original motive for Reapers was perfect - they were given a lvl 5 hunter perk, in exchange for being both visible on the map, and tied to an island that could be camped. The Reapers were developed for Pvp.
I agree. From a lore perspective I would prefer they keep it to reapers... Similar to how I'm not a fan of same faction fights. But in practice it would be nicer to sell just Athena flags at reapers tables and giving it to the skellie to smuggle back there seems an ok solution to me!
They do need some adjustment to the selling side of things. Maybe it's time to bring the servant closer to the docks so that there's less travel time to deliver the loot. A setup like the sovereigns would absolutely be the wrong fix as the setup is supposed to promote pvp.

When you dive, you're put into a dedicated server with 2 of each faction and the fifth being a floating position that could be aligned with either side. Part of the frustration of doing the hourglass and waiting for someone to spawn on you is the fact that being on a full server prevents this. War servers could also highlight the regions that opposing ships are in making it faster to find a fight. It would also allow bigger battles than just one on one. You could have the entire server duking it out. I can even picture each side being in their own party and coordinating their tactics. This would bring both the interactions and the combat to its fullest.
the capabilities of cheating in this game is baffling. it goes way beyond FoV increase, ESP and Aimbotting, people can fly or even teleport at light speed, spawn items, repair or scuttle ships on demand... become invulnerable -.- it makes one feel like we're playing some open source game where everything can be modified, and rare seems completely helpless, they won't even acknowledge the issue... thanks for bringing some light to this problem
I'm under no impression locking my doors will keep out someone who's determined and I may even lock myself out on occasion but that doesn't mean I should just leave my door wide open.
I’ve encountered 3 cheaters just today, and before anyone says that I might just be bad; if I see a guy sprinting through water like he is THE FLASH of SoT, he is cheating, If he is flying he is cheating etc., and I don’t accuse of cheats just if I lose. So, 3 cheaters in 1 day ( 1 in morning and 2 at night we took a LONG 8 hour break ) is quite a lot, I play with quite a bit of players from my discord channel and we all stopped playing SoT today… it is unfortunate but it’s a waste of time getting 3 streak and dying on 4th to a cheater that boards when game just starts with speed hacks.
Spawned into a boat at Old Brimstone and their ship was under the water. Just chillin. Kegged em 3 times and it did nothing. Then got 3rd partied by their alliance. Sickening
I absolutely think an anti cheat should be something implemented I've only ran across a hacker in adventure one other time and he wasn't toxic about it he was just like "look what I can do" now with that being said since season 8 I've run across about 8 and Not only was it just plain unfair of these things that they were doing but very toxic about it
I was with a friend and encountered one, i saw him shoot out the cannon without a chance of making our boat , then he just teleports to our deck. Blunderbuss, 3 blunderbombs, 2 sword swing combos, and a sniper shot didnt kill him. Then my friend is facing him and i go down to get food, and i got popped through the floor and the only thing the cheater said was "i shot through the grate" when i wasnt even in a shot from the grate. Easily ruined a 3 hr sail and couldnt even report besides through xbox app(which we all know xbox doesnt do much at all)
Liking the idea of also being able to sell at Reaper Flag skeletons/Bird, regardless of the fact there is a "Hideout" the parrot seems to be VERY CAPABLE of sending messages to the Reapers hideout WITHOUT THE NEED of Reapers going back and forth. As for the Sovereigns, they're neutral, as long as it makes money, they'll do whatever
Devo about the cinematics. I hope they can still find away to keep that self contained story feel in this new hybrid version. Man, I really wish cross stamp matchmaking was already a thing. I hope Rare update us soon.
only thing bad I can think about reporting is if the amount of false reports get too high say someone gets upset because they lost and report for say harassment that it just slows down the process or possibly gets innocent people banned
As long as Rare doesn't fall for the bs and implements EAC. It has never worked, and most likely never will. Its only apparent effect is it restricts user modifications that in most (though not all) cases are harmless, such as custom HUD icons or colourblind mode.
They should implement anticheat immediately and start actively banning cheaters - not waiting for reports and analysing them. I have to deal with cheaters almost every time I play, it often ends by losing everything after hours of playing without any chance to defend our ship. After so many hours and a lot of money invested into this game I feel cheated by Rare now.

The flag selling might have something to do with the Pirate Guilds that were hinted at. So perhaps all of em are gonna be accepting flags now, rather than just Athena and Reapers? And if not, I do hope Reapers at LEAST get an easier system to sell things, or to offload cargo from their ship. Compared to the easy life literally every other emissary has from unloading at the Sovereigns and just handing things in with only a minimum of walking... Having to dock at reapers and spend nearly half a minute from your ship, to the Servant and back onto your ship is.. painful. Especially if you have a large haul. ...Hell I'd even do with a skeleton on the docks that'll take the items if offered by an emmissary.
After grinding out the curse I stopped playing. I hated that specific grind and it really soured the game for me. Everything in the game takes a long time. Just sailing somewhere and cashing in the loot is a decent time commitment with nothing going on except running back forth from the boat. The gold can't even be used to buy something neat most of the time. The HG grind I did just really highlighted all the problems with the combat mechanics for an absurd amount of time. There seems to be very little consideration for the players time. Ive uninstalled and went back to one of my favorite game series.
Just got a cheater claiming to be the guy who developed the cheat being used. They also said something about the sea of thieves team being trans. Didn’t really pry into the reasoning. Managed to convince them to be civil after a few attempts to ruffle my feathers and they left. They also admitted that they will not stop even after the original cheat is made obsolete.
The issue is how hard it would be to implement an anticheat. This goes for all games that are on PC Game Pass. Something about how these game were structured make it diffucult to add an anticheat. This is why their isnt one in the game yet, because they dont have the power to do so. Same with Ark, they're in the same boat.
Sea of thieves already has server checks for unnatural movement/gameplay thats why sometimes the server corrects your position, the problem with sea of thieves is the amount they use rpcs (Remote Procedure Calls) . Some of these server checks are rpcs so players can intercept these calls and stop themselves from getting kicked or corrected back to were they should be. I'm not sure the solution for this if there even is one.
Yeah, cheats are more and more common. I never met a cheater myself, but I saw a lot of youtube videos where the cheats are obvious. I feel lucky I haven't run into one yet, but I fear I may find one once the cross stamp update arrives. I agree that a PvP udpate would attract a lot more cheaters, specially with a system that punishes losers more than many other PvP games. Hopefully Rare can solve the cheater problem soon and make the experience for losing players more enjoyable.
Sea of thieves definitely needs an anti cheat. The current state is awful and I can assure you that if someone wanted to, they could obtain cheats in under 10 minutes (for free). And then there are obviously the payed cheats which have even more features despite the basic ESP and aimbot such as Cannon aimbot, ship trajectory, noclip just to name a few.
i have experienced cheater more than 6 times only in season 8!!!!! and they used spinbot, they literally used spinbot that spun while he was using the ladders. unbelievable
I’ve been playing for 2 years… haven’t seen a ton of overt cheating until about 3 weeks ago. I’ve run into 2 teleporters in 3 weeks. Seems like an increase.
Cheating is defintely worse then it ever has been, which to me makes sense with the addition of the new pvp mode. This is because the game is nearly free to play for new accounts. And when cheaters get banned they make new accounts and abuse the "infinite game pass trial" loophole to keep playing indefinitely.
There’s a cheating way to get high in levels in PVP, most of the British and Spanish people are using this cheat. The cheat consist that: The other crew sinks their ship first, then the other crews starts to throw fire bombs to the ship sinking and after the ship is gone, they grow up in levels to get to the 1000 level. I think it’s cheating. Hope sooner or later, Rare can put a anti cheating system.
For a game that emphasizes hitting your mark with your single shot guns. Anti cheat should be pretty high up on the list of things to hold down. I love the game and it's physics but the line of is this player really good or cheating is tough sometimes to tell especially when one does git gud.
yes i have encounter cheaters i had my 10 streak and i wass about to lower it but just the secend before i heard some swimmers and i kill the boarder and i look around there wass no ships or anything. secend time the swimmer came back and tryd to board. kill him up to 3-4 times i came to Sanctuary outpost i ramm my ship beside of tall tale board for the jack sparrow and i ran over to lower but my ship wass not close enough to lower!! and i sunk but im not mad im just thinking its just pixel but i totally agree SoT should have anti cheat and i would love to have the kill sound just for itself looking foward to that!
Came back to SoT in season 8. Haven't played since they introduced plunder pass. First PvP encounter was a hacker lol. Either I'm lucky or it's common.
Ah that sucks. Hopefully you can experience some fights without hackers. I've not actually experienced any on EU servers solo or duo PvP.... But galleon PvP has been rife with it on most servers from what I understand.

If they are obviously cheating and not even trying to hide it, it’s always an alt account with less than like a day of total gametime just trying to troll other people. It honestly feels pointless to report them cus I know they’ll just repeat the same thing from another alt. Those playing on their main account are always discrete about it, and make it hard to tell whether they are just cracked or hacking. Unfortunately I feel like most cheaters fall under the latter group, so the best evidence I can gather is cannonballs practically never missing from far away and only hitting top deck on galleon, getting sniped from far away while deep underwater, and getting frequently killed by bullets that appear to miss me. None of this is strong evidence but enough to make me feel very suspicious. I’m almost always 50/50 on reporting them because I personally know of people who’ve been falsely redbearded from very lucky gameplay and I’d hate to be wrong in reporting someone and getting them banned when there’s that chance that certain things were luck.
i also wonder if maybe they made S8 PVP so they could track player actions in combat to train the anti cheat ai with data collected from the battles exclusively
From what I have seen via forums on cheat sites while researching how wide spread it is I have seen script you can run to unban a banned account, If that works the problem is much worse than I first thought, I have wanted an Anti cheat since 2019 after the first initial wave of cheaters, Any effort to combat this would be appreciate, As a pvp focused player it would be nice to feel like I was going into a fair fight.
I got to 100 servants in less than 2 weeks after the season 8 released, i was really hyped, now I'm 200 in servants and 40 guardians. Stopped playing the game due to the amount of cheaters ruining the PVP mode lately, it wasn't this bad when the season dropped, now there's at least 1 cheating crew per evening session. ANY ANTICHEAT will remove 98% of the current cheats available. Games have different layers of protection against cheats, SOT has NONE!!
I agree even the most basic anti cheat could remove a huge chunk. I'm afraid the more people who cheat, the more people decide to cheat in response. It's a snowball effect and could get a lot worse before it gets better.
I'm not high enough MMR to encounter cheaters. But watching Theb's videos...yeah, these guys are blatant. Like they don't even hide it, quite the opposite, they flaunt it. They're proud that they're able to have that much control over the game and other players. And they know that as long as they don't give themselves cosmetics through these cheats, Rare will do nothing about it.
I certainly believe that we will never see a proper anticheat because of current hardware limitations. In order to allow Rare to develop a polished game, they need to drop the old xbox generation, and thats a pocket of players you're actually droping on the way, and as a game service, that won't happen any time soon as long as the contract to keep developing the game for most devices as currently available is up to 2028. And as you said, if the developers get a 3rd party anti cheat, the calibration process will be nasty. In the end, this once again proofs that the game -even with unintended flaws- was built around mostly for PvE rather than PvP.
As my mmr has increased I've seen more cheaters in a couple weeks than I would see in 6 months. Also the amount of racist names I've seen is actually insane
knowing rare and how many bugs they let into game, if they ever make antycheat it will most likely detect xbox game bar as a 3rd party and ban all pc players lol
Actually, a major reason of why i'm not hunting for flags it's because i'm to lazy to go to the reaper's hideout everytime. So selling flags at outpost is just a big gift for me ! I'm waiting for this :D
I know you can’t “just fix the cheating problem lol”, but I’d hope if they are working on one they aren’t telling us specifically what they’re so the cheaters don’t have time to come up with a counter it. Wish they at least acknowledged that they are aware/working on the current increase in hackers though
Yeah it's pretty common practice to keep all talk about anti cheats and their security methods as secret as possible. I know with games like destiny they have battle eye or whatever and beyond that they say nothing because anything they say can be used to circumvent things.
Not so much cheating but I've had a couple of times when I'm solo slooping dive down only to come up against an alliance with a Galleon "bodyguard" they even called for help when I managed to get their master down.

Bruh 90% of sot players are just casual players. I don't get why they need to cheat. You could play the game like normal and you would still win more than half of the time. This game isn't that hard.

Well with the new veil mission you make MUCH more money as an Athena emissary.
Ingame reporting would do so much good.. even if anti cheat took longer let the players make reports to build data for the ai to learn from

Rare should add Cannon dials on the cannons. For height so if 1 person is hitting they can call out a number instead of " im hitting match my arch "

Sea of thieves definitely needs an anti cheat. The current state is awful and I can assure you that if someone wanted to, they could obtain cheats in under 10 minutes (for free). And then there are obviously the payed cheats which have even more features despite the basic ESP and aimbot such as Cannon aimbot, ship trajectory, noclip just to name a few.
i have experienced cheater more than 6 times only in season 8!!!!! and they used spinbot, they literally used spinbot that spun while he was using the ladders. unbelievable
Hope they also fix turning flags into the sovereign. As of now you don’t get any gold bonus for emissary level or any reputation

I’ve been playing for 2 years… haven’t seen a ton of overt cheating until about 3 weeks ago. I’ve run into 2 teleporters in 3 weeks. Seems like an increase.
Cheating is defintely worse then it ever has been, which to me makes sense with the addition of the new pvp mode. Im definitely with you on Season 9 being a quality of life update, I really do help we can sell flags at the outpost to reapers :) Great video again Ellie! nice to see the tweets from the team confirming things, I don't always catch them :)

This is because the game is nearly free to play for new accounts. And when cheaters get banned they make new accounts and abuse the "infinite game pass trial" loophole to keep playing indefinitely.
Theb be targeted by them sniping every stream 1 or 2 without fail its been funny
I must be lucky, the 3 days I tried out season 8 each time ran into flying godmode cheaters.
I’ve rarely seen a cheater or never at all. The only cheater I have encountered is my friend who I realise he did it as he was a fresh account.
There’s a cheating way to get high in levels in PVP, most of the British and Spanish people are using this cheat. The cheat consist that: The other crew sinks their ship first, then the other crews starts to throw fire bombs to the ship sinking and after the ship is gone, they grow up in levels to get to the 1000 level. I think it’s cheating. Hope sooner or later, Rare can put a anti cheating system.
why not just put reaper parrot somewhere on all outposts that buys only reaper and athena flags but to sell everything else you have to go to hideout

For a game that emphasizes hitting your mark with your single shot guns. Anti cheat should be pretty high up on the list of things to hold down. I love the game and it's physics but the line of is this player really good or cheating is tough sometimes to tell especially when one does git gud.
yes i have encounter cheaters i had my 10 streak and i wass about to lower it but just the secend before i heard some swimmers and i kill the boarder and i look around there wass no ships or anything. secend time the swimmer came back and tryd to board. kill him up to 3-4 times i came to Sanctuary outpost i ramm my ship beside of tall tale board for the jack sparrow and i ran over to lower but my ship wass not close enough to lower!! and i sunk but im not mad im just thinking its just pixel but i totally agree SoT should have anti cheat and i would love to have the kill sound just for itself looking foward to that!
they should also stop banning ppl for petty shit as it creates more cheaters
Came back to SoT in season 8. Haven't played since they introduced plunder pass. First PvP encounter was a hacker lol. Either I'm lucky or it's common.
Ah that sucks. Hopefully you can experience some fights without hackers. I've not actually experienced any on EU servers solo or duo PvP.... But galleon PvP has been rife with it on most servers from what I understand.

If they are obviously cheating and not even trying to hide it, it’s always an alt account with less than like a day of total gametime just trying to troll other people. It honestly feels pointless to report them cus I know they’ll just repeat the same thing from another alt. Those playing on their main account are always discrete about it, and make it hard to tell whether they are just cracked or hacking.
Unfortunately I feel like most cheaters fall under the latter group, so the best evidence I can gather is cannonballs practically never missing from far away and only hitting top deck on galleon, getting sniped from far away while deep underwater, and getting frequently killed by bullets that appear to miss me. None of this is strong evidence but enough to make me feel very suspicious.
I’m almost always 50/50 on reporting them because I personally know of people who’ve been falsely redbearded from very lucky gameplay and I’d hate to be wrong in reporting someone and getting them banned when there’s that chance that certain things were luck.

From what I have seen via forums on cheat sites while researching how wide spread it is I have seen script you can run to unban a banned account, If that works the problem is much worse than I first thought, I have wanted an Anti cheat since 2019 after the first initial wave of cheaters, Any effort to combat this would be appreciate, As a pvp focused player it would be nice to feel like I was going into a fair fight.
It's indeed so easy to evade a ban, a good anticheat is the only solution.
I got to 100 servants in less than 2 weeks after the season 8 released, i was really hyped, now I'm 200 in servants and 40 guardians. Stopped playing the game due to the amount of cheaters ruining the PVP mode lately, it wasn't this bad when the season dropped, now there's at least 1 cheating crew per evening session.
ANY ANTICHEAT will remove 98% of the current cheats available. Games have different layers of protection against cheats, SOT has NONE!!
I agree even the most basic anti cheat could remove a huge chunk. I'm afraid the more people who cheat, the more people decide to cheat in response. It's a snowball effect and could get a lot worse before it gets better.
We need anticheat, I've lost against around 25 in 2 months and most of them I got them 3 times in a row in battles

I'm not high enough MMR to encounter cheaters. But watching Theb's videos...yeah, these guys are blatant. Like they don't even hide it, quite the opposite, they flaunt it. They're proud that they're able to have that much control over the game and other players. And they know that as long as they don't give themselves cosmetics through these cheats, Rare will do nothing about it.
I certainly believe that we will never see a proper anticheat because of current hardware limitations.
In order to allow Rare to develop a polished game, they need to drop the old xbox generation, and thats a pocket of players you're actually droping on the way, and as a game service, that won't happen any time soon as long as the contract to keep developing the game for most devices as currently available is up to 2028. And as you said, if the developers get a 3rd party anti cheat, the calibration process will be nasty.
In the end, this once again proofs that the game -even with unintended flaws- was built around mostly for PvE rather than PvP.

Really would love to be able to sell all flags books humble gifts and generous gifts at reaper tables at outposts.
I just want gifts to be like the buried treasure and count if sold by another crew after you've left the server!
Sot is now an exclusive PVP game complete with cheating sweats so Im gone.
Most time I only suspect it, until I started seeing 'Restore' during battles. Grinding can suck but at least I earned it.
The worst part is I don't think most of them are even cheating to get the curse, they're cheating just to troll.
As my mmr has increased I've seen more cheaters in a couple weeks than I would see in 6 months. Also the amount of racist names I've seen is actually insane

Actually, a major reason of why i'm not hunting for flags it's because i'm to lazy to go to the reaper's hideout everytime. So selling flags at outpost is just a big gift for me ! I'm waiting for this :D

I know you can’t “just fix the cheating problem lol”, but I’d hope if they are working on one they aren’t telling us specifically what they’re so the cheaters don’t have time to come up with a counter it. Wish they at least acknowledged that they are aware/working on the current increase in hackers though
Yeah it's pretty common practice to keep all talk about anti cheats and their security methods as secret as possible. I know with games like destiny they have battle eye or whatever and beyond that they say nothing because anything they say can be used to circumvent things.
Not so much cheating but I've had a couple of times when I'm solo slooping dive down only to come up against an alliance with a Galleon "bodyguard" they even called for help when I managed to get their master down.

It will probably have an initial impact but yes, based on what I know from other games it's an ongoing fight for developers.
@@EllieBoopGaming exactly especially with how sophisticated some cheats are. The reality is all it takes is for one really smart guy to make something really good, then sell it and it becomes widespread. Honestly it makes me wonder if some kind of legislation will be necessary in the future

Bruh 90% of sot players are just casual players. I don't get why they need to cheat. You could play the game like normal and you would still win more than half of the time. This game isn't that hard.

Milesstone and battle banners Have to be removed. It completely obscures the enemies ship and each stay on screen for 5-10seconds
