Last year I bought a grom kinda on a whim just as a toy. When gas prices starting going up I started riding it to work. Now it's pretty much my go-to commuter unless the weather is terrible. Doing all my weekly motoring on maybe $5 of gas, while also having more fun than a car is so nice.

If I did the whole thing on my Rebel 1100 it would have cost me three times as much and I do not think it would have coped with some of the roads I used on the NC500 in Scotland including the pass to Applecross.

No joke. Every time im out in the garage chilling with friends and i hear any bike in the distance my ears perk up and i say "Grom?" They say its definitely not a grom cuz the sound, but i say it's a grom with a big bore kit. I own 4 bikes. A 2022 mt09 sp, 2016 xsr900, a wr250r, and my beloved Grom. The grom is hands down the most fun bike I own by a longshot. I recommend everyone rides a grom at some point because if you cant have fun on a grom than you're incapable of having fun. Grom grom grom, grom grom, grom grom. The grom is without a single gromin doubt the best gromin bike this gromin world has ever gromin produced. My personal grom has even been outfitted with a custom horse power adding, head turning, one of a kinda swingarm sticker that makes it go faster that says "I EAT ASS."

Can confirm about minibikes always riding in packs. Even up here in rural New Hampshire, where city bikes don't really have a purpose and *every* road has a speed "limit" of 50 (65 in practice), it is not uncommon to see a pack of groms mobbing around doing grom squad things

I bought a 2021Supercub last year and have ridden it as my daily driver, including gig work for various services all over the state. It is faster than the Trail, which is the only other of these that can easily hold a large enough case on the back for that kind of work. It also means I can legitimately do light grocery shopping on my Cub, which cannot be said for Grom, Navi, or Monkey. The mods required for them to hold anything larger than a small case are extensive and not cheap.
The Trail already has a nice luggage rack built in, but another $100 set me up nicely with the Supercub and an extra (roughly) 10mph the Supercub gives on highways makes all the difference when you have to drive 10 miles on 65mph roads just to get to town.
All of these are amazing little machines, but if mods are a strong suit of the Grom, you should look into the mods for the Supercub. The Supercub turns the most heads, too, because any older folks had one or remembers a parent or grandparent who had one. So many were sold back then that it is a nostalgia trip for someone at a light or parking lot every single time I take her out.

I left the motorcycle scene for a few years after selling my 883c in 2017. In 2020, I decided to buy a beginner bike just to jump back into riding on the cheap. I went to buy a 2020 cb300r, but they were out of stock. I left the showroom that day with a light blue Honda grom. It is as fun as they say. I went back a year later and bought a 2021 cb300r, but chose to take a loan instead of trading up from the grom. I would have missed it too much. I love how stupid simple the engine is on the grom. It really helped me understand how engines work and it’s so easy, that I never plan to ever take it to the dealer for maintenance as long as I own it. My only regret was not waiting for the 5 speed model, but they aren’t the end all. The 2022’s , their head bolts are closer together making it impossible to put a BBK on it the same size that you could put on the earlier generations.

I love the concept of these, but I can't find any anywhere near MSRP near me. Local place was selling the Navi for $2500. I saw a '22 trail for $6400. That's what, $2k over MSRP?
These are really neat options, but it feels like there's too little supply to be saying these are available at this prices. I have to look 3-4 years back just to see used Groms going for less than MSRP, and it's not a guarantee.

Had my name on a dealer's list for June. He called me to say July. If he calls me I'll let him know he can now sell it to someone else. I went vintage, with something both available and less costly that'll serve the same purpose for me: getting me on the road. I like all these new Honda mini motos, but none of them enough to wait AND pay a premium for.

2500 for a Navi is actually a couple hundred cheaper than anywhere within 200 miles of me - 2800 is the lowest out the door price I've seen, with similar 1k+ markups on every other honda model.

    • @g1nk0

@@g1nk0 oh 100% ridiculous. And with the way some of this stuff holds it's value even used isn't a guarantee. I was looking for a moped or something for around town, 2006 ruckuses going for nearly new MSRP anywhere local. '15 groms going for almost new MSRP, etc.

are you guys looking for ideas for the channel?
Maybe a youtube series about buying older motorcycles: what, how and when to buy older motorcycles and how to keep them running for beginners on a budget
The channel could review older bikes to find out wich ones are for beginners and which ones are fun for experienced riders.
I think older bikes appeal to more people because they are rare ( espacially on youtube ), cheap, nostalgic to many people and have lots of character.
Older motorcycles are not the easiest rides for beginners but they do allow them to really learn. And you have money left over to make mistakes.
But the most important thing, i hope older bikes or something else are more interesting to yammie noob and the team. Your enthousiasm in the videos makes people watch with pleasure. So i hope the yammie noob team makes content that you love to make! A lot of channels die because they lose interest in their own content. And thats a shame!

Unfortunately it is the limitation of the centrifugal semi-auto clutch. You can't really put anything more powerful than 9 HP there. That's why Cub-style bikes with 150cc displacement all have full MT clutch. And the same case also happens with 10 HP Grom and Monkey (and for Japanese/EU bros, the Dax)

Examples: Honda Astrea Grand 110, Honda Astrea Supra 100, Honda GLX 50 and GLX 90, Honda Innova 125 (carburated and Injection), Honda C50 (SuperCub) and newer ones like the Honda Supra X 125, Honda Astrea X 110, and The Honda GTR 150

I ride in South Korea. I've been riding my 22 grom for just over a year, hitting 10k km. I've been on two seperate long rides (300km back and forth) and rode mostly for city commuting and going on a date with my girlfriend on the back. I want to upgrade to a different bike that has much higher cc. But I just cannot find the right bike for me. My budget is $8k. To give you a price reference, I can afford a 2018 Ducati cafe racer that has 12k with the first desmo completed. Yes, there are sv650, harley750, old mt07, and even a rebel500 in the same price range. But these are definitely bikes you would want to switch to a different one probably way too soon. Unless, I bump my budget to afford an Indian or w800, in which I would rather buy a reliable 4 wheel vehicle, I think I'm gonna be stuck with this lovely grom turd for the long while. There simply aren't a bike I can upgrade to.
