  • This is a sad excuse of a theme park. With no immersion, cheap rides, and very little to do here, there's no reason Disney should be charging as much as they do for a one day ticket. Walt would be ashamed...

    Something to consider about the old Disney-MGM Studios and Universal Studios Florida, is that when they opened they were actually working film studios, so many of the sound stages were actually in use. When you took a behind the scenes tour, you got to see behind the scenes of actual movies and shows that were being made. Without that authentic aspect, the movie studio theming doesn't do much because it's so bare-bones. But if you know that something cool is being made behind those boring walls, it brings a sense of wonder.

    • @kevinbhieey9188
      @kevinbhieey9188 Год назад +6

      They were BARELY working studios. They had the Animation building, which they decided shouldn't look like a big ugly box, even though "big ugly box" was a perfectly fine theme for many of the attractions. All the actual working soundstages were in the backlot, so they weren't even seen unless you took the Backlot Tour. This wasn't a "theme" as much as it was the easiest way to throw together this park before Universal Studios built theirs. At least Universal's "soundstage" theme was meant to be an actual theme and not horrifying cheapness. And then there's the Lower Lot in Hollywood, which is literally amongst working soundstages. (Universal's soundstages never bothered me because they are all clumped together, so it did feel a bit like the Backlot in Hollywood. Disney uses the soundstages, but they're here and there, separated by other things, so they're not at all reminiscent of a working studio. That makes them come off like a design choice, not a theme park that grew out of a working studio. Also, it's all just this sea of beige. For a company that is beloved for its animation, beige is NOT a good color representation for a theme park.)

    • @Spudeaux
      @Spudeaux Год назад +3

      @@kevinbhieey9188 Barely working is enough to create a sense of wonder to satisfy your average tourist, though (it certainly did for me when I was a little kid in the early 90's). I also don't think it's quite fair to say that either studio park was a "barely" working studio, even though they declined fairly quickly and eventually became inactive. A good bit of the Disney renaissance films were worked on in Florida, and who can forget the Nickelodeon studios next to Universal Orlando? Also, the original layout of Disney-MGM studios actually did have the production facilities clustered together and separated from the theme park areas. When the park opened, you didn't even get to see the Streets of America section unless you took the backlot tour. Disney didn't get the bookings they were anticipating at their Florida studio, so they expanded the theme park into the original production areas and backlot, leading to the kind of hap-hazard layout of the park. Anyway, the point I was trying to make with my original comment, is that Disney chose the studio theme for their second Paris park without understanding what made that theme work at the parks in the US.

      Universal Hollywood studios is the only park the has truly pulled off ‘’major production place you can tour/see” but that’s a nonreplicable thing. I am not against studio style parks, but they struggle a lot more than circle/hub and spoke land based parks as they extend.
      Studio theming struggles to be fantastic, but it isn’t bad by any means in my books, but when Disney and universal, the parks meant to be fantastic but costier a studio theme can restrict that.
      It’s an interesting trend that had a lot of cool things and advantages but also was quite flawed

    This was a phase Disney was going through at the time. They built DCA around the same time and had the same issues, as well as the Chester and Hester area at DAK. While they did try to fix DCA, sadly, because nobody really cared about the Disneyland Paris property they have just kept putting off re-doing this park for decades. The Dinoland area is finally on the chopping block. Personally I think DCA being right down the street from the companies HQ where all the execs had to live next to it had a lot to do with that lol.

Funny how your thoughts echo exactly what 99% of themepark enthousiasts feel like about this park. It really needs an eye catcher to be put on the map. While the Frozen land will be great for family's and hopefully bring some of that Disney shine I wonder if it'll be enough. I’ve been going to WDS since it opened. It used to be a pretend ‘film studio’ and all of the attractions fed into that idea - even the Flying Carpets was set up as ‘shooting a scene’. As the park has expanded, that idea has been lost, so now we have a collection of rides with no relationship to one another. The Frozen area is going to make that aspect even more pronounced.

  • @UncommonManFromEarth

    I actually prefered what the park was like when it opened to what it is now. At least it felt authentic and really brought you backstage to experience what it was like to shoot a movie. (I actually work on movie sets now in large part thanks to that experience that got me fascinated with movie making)
    Now it's just another collection of bland Disney IP rides... Where are the original attractions ?? My two favorite Disney rides are Space Mountain de la Terre à la Lune and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Couldn't give a damn about Marvel, Star Wars or Pixar rides.
    Want to know what Disney should be building ? Look at Phantasialand and F.L.Y that ride and area is an absolute masterpiece. Way more beautiful and exciting than anything Disney built in a verrry long time.

    Been there quite a number of times from shortly after it opened until most recently I think 8 or 9 years ago. But always combined with the main park. And to me, it has always felt like that, basically just an extra world. And looked at is as such, it was okay at best. But just on its own, no, hell no! And keep in mind that Tower of Terror and Crush's Coaster and most other rides you mentioned were only added years after opening, at first the Aerosmith Coaster was basically the only big ride. The Armageddon thing was pretty bad (even worse than the movie), and they had a boring studio tram tour. The only saving grace were some shows (AniMagique, CineMagique, Moteurs Action), all of which are gone now. If the lines aren't too bad (unfortunately Crush's Coaster is indeed a disaster in that regard...) it's good for half a day, then switch to the other park.

    Hopefully, the additions of the Frozen and Star Wars areas (assuming that the second one is still on the table) can liven this park even more. But if possible, I think this entire park needs an overhaul. Maybe they should bring more areas based on other popular IP's like Zootopia and Avatar into the park, and make this Disney's version of Warner Brothers Movie World in Australia (and then do the same to Hollywood Studios in Florida afterwards).

    I was about 9-years-old when I first visited this park in 2004. I didn't hate it or anything, but even at that tender age I knew it didn't compare with the park next door. The theming was flimsy, the aesthetics were thread-bare, and the attractions were lackluster. Some of the shows were fun, but it felt like these were padded out by wide, empty walkways and cheap rides.
    I'm glad they're expanding the park, but the theming is now completely gone. It's no longer about the "magic of movie-making", but just an IP dumping ground with a themed entrance.
    What upsets me is that it's really not hard to stick with the "movie-making" theme. You can even mix it with IPs. Just make it like the Toy Story 2 "bloopers", where the gag is that the characters are all actors in their own movies, and are aware of the fact they're being filmed. That way, you get the best of both worlds, where the characters are real but they're also aware that they're part of the film industry.

  • @Juup2003
    @Juup2003 4 месяца назад

    It is really not that bad if you combine it with the other park. It has great rides. It’s just small and until construction is completed, it is ugly. But crush coaster, tower of terror, avengers flight force, ratatouille and even web adventure are all really fun rides. It is not a park to visit on it’s own, but since most visitors probably stay at a hotel, you spend several days at both parks, which makes it a great place to do some great rides. But yes, they need to (and are currently doing) redesign. And I don’t agree with your critique on crush coaster, it fits the theme perfectly, rides very smooth and has fun theming. The RC racer obviously only has 1 train, it is basically a swinging ship, this is just the nature of the ride. The overlay for flight force, in my opinion, is pretty good. The outside theming is so much better than before and it just all fits together well. The ride itself is fun, but the screens are low quality, that is the only problem I have, but it rides pretty well and the story is clear. For anyone basing their decision to visit off of this video: the park has solid rides, some times better than the castle park. It is however, just an addition to the experience, it is not the experience itself. With the current design of the park it is not a place you would stay at, but it is a must for the rides! Soon, the park should also look good and then it may be able to fill your entire day in stead of switching to the castle park halfway trough the day. And about park Asterix, yes, go there, it is fun, but it does not match up in terms of theming. Some rides are really great, but there are many mediocre ones. The park also has no dark rides.
    Most Disneyland Paris visitors probably find visiting the American parks a step too far, so if you compare it to other European parks, the park (both combined that is) holds up well against Europapark, phantsialand and Efteling (some of the best in Europe). Don’t let yourself be discouraged from visiting from this video, decide what fits your preferences.

Crush Coaster could have been cool but the outside is so low budget, the whole Toy Story Land is some kind of fair with much plastic added. In WebSlingers, they are references to Mission Break out which is not even in this park. Tower of Terror is great but it was copying (for low budget puproses) what was there in California, but well done for a copy. Ratatouille is probably the only good thing the park has designed until now.
    The park was meant to be the "magic behind the cinema" as a main theme and now it is a collection of areas related by the fact they are movies... They should give it a new name like "Disney Movie World" by Aldi or something. I actually like Front Lot and Studio 1, too bad they are going to change studio 1 into a "market square"! And Oh yes, Temporary at Disneyland Paris means "intented to be". So you can assume Cars Road Trip will remain.

    MGM studios, Hollywood studios, whatever wherever… the world’s most boring parks and just as pointless as Universal Studios-not counting Islands of Adventure-who were the whole competitive reason for Eisner opening MGM!! “Let’s open another rival boring park,” said Eisner. Virtually no rides, dumb shows and attractions, and just more opportunities to eat, shop and spend. Like, there’s no point. We visited DLP for the first and only time in November 2021. It was still under Covid restrictions so we had to wear facemasks even outside and there were no fireworks, so that kinda sucked. Regardless, we loved Disneyland Park and had a brilliant few days. WDS was a huge disappointment to us. At that time, Avengers Campus was still nearly 6 or 8 months away from opening so that park had nothing to offer besides the Tower and Ratatouille. Crush was always on an hour wait, we did it once just to do it and that was it. RC Racer is a pathetic excuse for a coaster, waited 45 minutes for that and was disappointed with the less than one minute cycle time. Bah!! Maybe we'll go back when Frozen opens, but like you say, Parc Asterix is the place to go and it's on our list!
    Hey Taylor and Sarah, will ye come to Ireland on one of your Coastin' thru Europe trips? We'll have 6 coasters in Emerald Park if the Vekomas actually open next year!! Ok, so nothing to put on a bucket list for you guys with your huge credits and history riding coasters of all types (we'll have 1 kiddie, 2 family, 2 family thrill and 1 trill with our Gravity Group woodie Cu Chulainn) but still, come to Ireland for a weekend visit and stop by Emerald Park for a day!

      It was never anyone's favourite park, but it's been left in a state of flux since the planned expansions (which have all been delayed) and all the changes the current parts are undergoing. Visiting before the current changes might have actually been a better experience, even if some of the attractions weren't the most exciting, or up to date. At least the park felt more "filled out" back then, but it's been left very empty recently, and the Avengers Campus is a debatable improvement, especially with the loss of the original Rockin' Roller Coaster.
      It's unfortunately become very emblematic of the current state of Disney.

Lackluster attraction choices, poor park layout, unexciting theming, and an overall bland experience. I always do both parks on the same day, over a weekend. I would never do one park only, and there’s plenty of things to do if you combine. Shows are nice enough at the studios, and the shopping area is the better one in all the resort. Gusteau’s restaurant is also the best restaurant in all Disneyland Paris.
    Of course this park is the worst Disney park in the world, but combined with the regular park, it’s what makes Disneyland Paris a good alternative to the american parks. I won’t compare the Paris experience to the american parks but for exemple the Tower of Terror is my favorite version of this ride in the world (I did them all). So: is it the worst, yes, should I skip it while in Paris, no because some parts of it are worth a visit if you combined both Paris parks.

From what it seems, it's definitely worse than Great America, Fiesta Texas, Great Adventure and Magic Mountain, and Over Texas, but it might be better than La Ronde and Over Georgia and it's definitely better than Darien Lake, Great Escape, Frontier City and America.

    My first Disney was Hong Kong - quite good and back for 2-3 times for different reasons. Then DisneySea Tokyo totally disappointed me - only Tower of Terror was a bit more exciting. Also the laser shooting is extremely lame considered you paid for it and queued for 30-45 mins for it. Most of the rides are just sitting there calmly to look around things. This is why I got really turned off by Disneyland.
    Recently considering if I should go Disney Paris - good that I'm watching all these videos cuz they've confirmed my conviction even more - Disney is boring and repetitive after you have been to one or two.
    It's probably only fun when you go as a kid or teenager. If you want excitement, go somewhere else and they're probably better and cheaper
