@@robertbartender591 I remember David Jenkins writing that, when he was in charge at the NRM, the ex LNWR sleeping car from the Royal Train was smashed up & burnt right outside his office window. At one time there seems to have been an anti-preservation mentality in BR.

So the emergency stop was made to the midland Pullman because of the guard being left on the platform that the reason why

Nor often steam locos get upstaged by a diesel unit.
I would sooner see the original blue diesel Pullman though, it would bring back a lot of childhood memories.
