If my memory is correct, SE intended for BST to be a party job, however the issue was how players leveled up. In xp camps, you generally only had T+ mobs to charm, which as you saw charm doesn't last as long. Another issue was, if the pet was higher then the highest level party member and hit the mob, then the xp would be factored in as if the pet was a normal party member, meaning a party of 6 level 10's for example would become a party of 7 ranging from level 10-. If the pet was a jug, or EM or lower then it would only nerf the BST's xp, again if I'm remembering right. Later they removed the xp nerf from jugs, and I believe from charm mobs that topped out as EM, but you still had an issue of the BST job not contributing much in the way of party support or damage. Also, if you really want to get the full BST leveling experience(would be hard with the amount of xp you get), you can charm an EM, sic it on a T mob, let it get the T down to one or two hits away from death, then ghetto leave the pet(let the pet die with heal > stay), or use leave and either finish it off with a jug, or just by yourself. Much easier to do now due to having trusts and not having to rely on /DNC or /WHM for cures or /NIN for shadows. Not trying to tell you how to play the game, just mostly relaying old skool BST experience from somebody who leveled it...twice. Third char, I went with full trusts and just used a jug pet and leveled it like a ghetto WAR. Either way, keep up the videos, always look forward to when you post a new one.
Very awesome information as always, thank you! As someone who didn't play the job past Level 10 in the old days, I appreciate the insight! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos 😁 This was Rita's first time co-commenting on the series too, so she really enjoyed seeing some of the job she picked in action.
@@PIERSO86 And thinking on her co-commenting had me thinking of Joker from Mass Effect 2 with his "This is how it all starts and when we're all organic batteries..." line, meaning "This is how it all starts, and before you know it, you're sucked into the crack, I mean playing the game." :D
Yea originally the game considered your pet a 7th party member when calculating exp, but the typical BST did not have the damage output as 1 good DPS, let alone 2, so they were not welcome in most typical exp setups. They would usually pair up with another BST for safety, and need to pick very specific exp spots due to Killer effects, and enemy levels. It wasn't until lvl99 cap did they get decent Jug pets and were welcome in parties. Today, they are great close in fighters, and their pets offer some INCREDIBLE support, ie unresistable defense down, or the ability to steal NMs TP so they can't use any of their moves, etc.
