I was listening through some music in a vocal book when I heard the first chord of this song and was hooked. I made my younger sister listen to it too, and now we're both addicted - this song's been stuck in our heads for weeks now, and showing no signs of losing its awesomeness. i love this song :') me and my friend did it at school, and then covered it on afterwards on here :) these 2 are amazing - i wanna be even half as good as them one day!! ;)
I keep watching this on repeat. It's a masterclass! Just a brilliant performance. I have seen a few videos of Andrea where she can sound a tad nasaly or pitchy (still amazing though always!) but in this she is just absolute perfection! The way she can effortlessly push those top notes (2:38, 3:44) out in mixed voice, just wow! You can barely even see her breathe yet the power and control, wow. Coleen is superb too, I do love her voice and the vulnerability she brings to her characters. She was a tiny bit pinched (2:42) on the top note in this recording but it worked! But personally in the show I do like Lucy to have a deeper tone with massive belt (like lindas voice) just to contrast with a lighter more classical soprano Emma. In this video both ladies sing with a lovely mezzo sound and whilst it makes this rendition gorgeous to listen to as a stand alone (their voices just blend like butter) for the characterisation in the overall story a bit more contrast works well. Fits with theme of duality. I have seen some renditions of this where the two ladies appear to be competing both vocally and dramatically and glad to say this isn't the case here. They know they don't have to compete vocally- they are both amazing. As for dramatics, Andrea really nails it, Emma isn't supposed to be dramatic and overwrought. She represents the controlled, demure, dignified front of Victorian era. Her conflict here isn't the same as Lucy's. Emma has led a nice life, had a loving secure family and has good prospects: her conflict is whether she should allow herself to be vulnerable, take the risk on her love match, knowing it could make her charmed life a little less so, due to his apparent eccentricities. Its a basic heart versus head choice she knows she needs to make but ultimately both outcomes could be good. There is no need for her to act over wrought. Lucy on the other hand is extremely vulnerable already. She's experienced significant trauma and loss. Her conflict is allowing herself to hope that her life could be different even though deep down she knows that won't happen. She's been let down so much already. It's a much more emotional narrative. Coleen is masterful in conveying this without it appearing melodramatic. I'm waffling on here. Bottom line this is amazing, huge well done to both inspirational performers.
@singerAR0406 I just assumed it was because of the ample use of straight tone with American vowels, which is okay given what's expected in contemporary musical theatre, but it is noticeable. I did love how you backed off near the end of the last note without losing power; that was beautiful. :)

MAGNIFICENT! "In His Eyes" and "This Is The Moment" are show stoppers. Had the privilege of seeing this on Broadway, and wish they would bring it back for my grandkids to see. They love the theatre. In his eyes is perfect for you Madison, and Cole should learn "This Is The Moment!
Very beautiful enunciation and purity of tone coming from both singers! The vocal lines in this song are so difficult to get right (compared to the original Broadway cast), and these ladies did an outstanding job.
My favorite part is the part where it says "If I'm wise than I would walk away and gladly, but sadly I'm not wise." So true its so sad.

In his eyes I can see
Where my heart longs to be
In his eyes I see a gentle glow
And that's where I'll be safe, I know
Safe in his arms, close to his heart
But I don't know quite where to start
Will I see beyond tomorrow?
Will I see beyond the sorrow, that I feel?
Will his eyes reveal to me promses or lies?
But he can't conceal from me
The love in his eyes
(His eyes) I know their every look
(His eyes) They're like an open book
(His eyes) But most of all the look that hypnotizes
If I'm wise I will walk away, and gladly
But sadly I'm not wise
It's hard to tuck away the memories that you prize.
Love is worth forgiving for
Now I realize
Everything worth living for is there in his eyes.
Love is worth forgiving for
Now I realize
Everything worth living for
Is there in his eyes.
I love how they sing this. Many videos in here show a bunch o' girls squeezing their voices. They can do it so naturally and sooo belted =P
i would sincerely love to play either of these roles
This song is just simply beautiful
Great duet! So powerful!
My drama group is performing Jekyll and Hyde. Opening night tonight. wish us luck :) Louise and Steph play Emma and Lucy and they are AMAZING!! one of the best shows ever performed by Tredegar Operatic Society!! XD Can't wait!!!

Why people go out of their way dislike something like this? I would give ANYTHING to have seen this live!!!

Andrea Rivette came to our school for a Revue and was fantastic! :D I love love love her.
I love this song I sing it all the time
definitely the most amazing song ever!
Stun....ning...
This is such a beautiful, powerful song.
This is my favourite rendition of this duet. Most singers make Emma’s part too belty these days but Andrea’s mix is so light but powerful!

EMMA:
I sit and watch the rain,
And see my tears run down the windowpane...
LUCY:
I sit and watch the sky.
And I can hear it breathe a sign...
EMMA:
I think of him,
How we were...
LUCY:
And when I think of him,
Then I remember...
LUCY/EMMA:
Remember...

In his eyes I can see
Where my heart longs to be!

MAGNIFICENT! "In His Eyes" and "This Is The Moment" are show stoppers. Had the privilege of seeing this on Broadway, and wish they would bring it back for my grandkids to see. They love the theatre. In his eyes is perfect for you Madison, and Cole should learn "This Is The Moment!
i love these girls, they sing very well!!
I love this song! It´s absolutely amazing! Both singers are amazing!
wow that was absolutely stunning
Beautiful
Very beautiful enunciation and purity of tone coming from both singers! The vocal lines in this song are so difficult to get right (compared to the original Broadway cast), and these ladies did an outstanding job.
Coleen is perfection.
OMG! That was BRILLIANT!!!!
im doin this in my vocal coaching
im singing lucy's part
i had no idea it was so hard
they are AMAZING
its beautiful
