OMG I could listen to LeVar Burton talk about anything. His voice is so soothing and just entrances you and he's so well spoken. I've already backed the kickstarter and you should too but you don't have to take my word for it ;)
OMG Levar Burton is really freaking good at hosting Sci Show. I wouldn't let him host ever again if I was you Hank, he's good. That was just, amazing. Good job Levar, you're a beast.
I know right? I showed my mother when Levar came in, and she was like 'Cool'. In my head, I was thinking- 'It ain't just 'cool', it's AWESOME!'........... Am I fangirling too much?
Rajdeep Lather Given that people who subscribe to a RUclips channel about science are probably interested in science, I think the slight complexity of his diction was suited for his audience.
Rajdeep Lather Still, if one is interested in science more often than not they are inclined to have an inquisitive and investigative nature. They would be willing to cover their gaps in knowledge with some independent research. The terms he was using were not terribly complex. A quick Google search would suffice for anyone truly interested enough to know.
The childhood memories just came through my body and began to make me fangirl. I could read before seeing his videos but I still have great memories of watching them :3
As soon as LeVar came on I raised my glass to my computer monitor. BUTTERFLY IN THE SKYYYYYYYYYY!!! We need to have an alternate to the 'Like' button for such occasions. Something like an 'Unbridled Admiration' button. The Reading Rainbow kickstarter is mind-blowing. YEAH! GET IT!
Diana Peña Well, it just is how the money management operates within the company. There's a lot of non-profits that are despicable and for profits which are heroic.
thumbs up... as a kid of the eighties (1981), seeing Levar again for the first time since i was six or seven (never got into trek) nearly brought a tear to my eye. to this day i still tell people "but you don't have to take my word for it" (the single phrase that ensured i would be a constant reader for life- which generally astonishes people, as i'm usually taken for a meat head until i open my mouth) when i feel like being a smart ass! great show guys!
Is it bad that I've been subscribed to this channel for 2 years and I only found out last week that Hank's brother is the Author of my favorite book? Hahah.
Do you watch their other channel, vlogbrothers? They collaborate on it and bring forward a mixture of videos which include science, media, literature, culture, etcetera.
eirwen5 Well I didn't, that's how I found out that he had a brother because I stumbled across it. I just think it's a great coincidence that the book that had a huge impact on me when I was a teenager was written by the brother of one of my favorite RUclipsrs haha.
Levar is everywhere right now! I totally want expecting him then. Awesome surprise! You should have him as an additional host for this channel or the space sci show!!
LeVar Burton is awesome as all get out. The very second I found out he had a kickstarter I jumped on that bad boy and threw a hundred bucks at it. Not a single regret. Rainbows might not be magic but Reading Rainbow certainly is. It's at over 2 million buckaroos now, hope it keeps soaring to the stars. All them feels man...all them feels.
Since we don't know this person we can only assume they don't have an interest in watching Star Trek. I've never watched an episode of Star Trek, but knew he was on the show since I live in America. As for Reading Rainbow it's understandable if they didn't watch it. Again if they didn't air the show while this person was growing up, have younger siblings who could have watched it, or baby sat children; it's not likely they would seek for it online. We will just have to wait and see if the person responds. :)
I have scishow going as an automatic playlist and usually simply listen instead of watching. So I didn’t see the title or see LeVar on the screen, but immediately his laugh blew my mind back to my childhood 20 years ago before I consciously recognized who the voice was.
I love LeVar!!! And his Geordi bit was funny. Hahah "unless you have a visor". This is what makes me love SciShow even more! Thanks for being on LeVar, and thanks for having him Hank!
I know it may not have a different explanation, but what about rainbows around the sun in midday? I saw it once, a perfect circle of rainbow around the sun at 12 pm. It was really weird and never saw it again.
are you possibly referring to a corona? no, not the drink. a corona is the sun's "outer light ring" for lack of a better explanation. it's whats often depicted when you see "glare" in animation or while you're taking a photo of the sun. as far as i understand, a similar effect(as a rainbow) occurs in our atmosphere because of the same reasons explained in the video.
mrobotosayshi I guess so, only that the day I saw it was clear as day, just sitting there, not some random reflection you see through glass. I suppose the atmospheric conditions that day were perfect for it.
Weird. Their are sun dogs, which are a sort of halo of light around the sun, particularly bright to the left and right of the sun. They are formed by ice crystals high in the atmosphere, instead of water, but usually appear when the sun is closer to the horizon. I think the maximum height for one is about 30 degrees, so that wouldn't explain you seeing one at noon.
1. This was the coolest surprise! 2. dood! Hank, how you gonna let LB blow you up, you got come harder than that! 0:43 3. We know what it means now! #doublerainbow
I only glanced at the title, so LeVar Burton appearing was a complete surprise. A complete surprise that made me squeal, throw my hands up, and do a squidy happy dance in my chair. That man makes me so happy.
Dear God I just had a multi-retro nerdgasm. Reading Rainbow coming back! Enticing a whole new generation of the wonders of reading and science and ... and ... Nice combo. Sci Show and Reading Rainbow might be able to undo the damage of 20 years of political incompetence and sabotage.

Spreading science awareness plus the general philosophy of the Green Brothers is only a good thing for all involved, and I look forward to more awesome collaborations in the future.
This was one of the best moments of my life....inner fangirling has reached maximum. Was a huge fan of Reading Rainbow growing up, and of course once STTNG came out, loved LeVar even more. Thanks so much for guest hosting!! Best wishes for the kickstarter!
***** Yes, the full version of the app isn't free, but mostly because it offers full versions of hundreds of children's books and other great content that they likely have to pay to provide access for. If you have any e-reader, you know that very few books are offered free. So, access to hundreds of books for $29.99 for 6 months is not a bad deal at all. Amazing turn of phrase friend, absolutely wonderful.
I think my inner geek just exploded - so much awesomeness in one video!
I never watched Reading Rainbow as a kid, but LeVar has such an enchanting quality to his speech I'm disappointed I missed out.
Oh my god, Hank must have been so thrilled.
At least he didn't have the opportunity to pull a Troy though.
Hank was havin' a geekgasm at the end there !!! ;-)
I wish he pulled a Troy that would have been so funny
Patrick Murphy tbh, I was having a geekgasm watching this haha
Patrick Murphy To bad Lindsey Doe wasn't there to give the analysis
OMG Levar Burton is really freaking good at hosting Sci Show. I wouldn't let him host ever again if I was you Hank, he's good. That was just, amazing. Good job Levar, you're a beast.
of course he is, he has been doing this for a very long time.

Love LeVar Burton's voice :D I used to watch Reading Rainbow so it's great to see him and hear that voice again! He should be a part of scishow!
The childhood memories just came through my body and began to make me fangirl. I could read before seeing his videos but I still have great memories of watching them :3
I was about || close go going all fangirl... And I'm a guy. I almost even let out a "Squee!" >.>'
YEAH! GET IT!
His voice is so calming...
I know I need him to talk me to sleep with Morgan freeman
his voice is so calming and yet engaging. i love it.
The kickstarter for Reading Raindbow was $1,000,000 USD. It was open for 12 hours before reaching that goal, which was before this video aired.
and now its almost at 2,317,000 !
It's also a for-profit company, not a charity, just so you know. I still don't care, but some people might.
Diana Peña I'd expect any that any smart individual would first fully understand what it is they are giving away their money to. I did, and I donated.
Diana Peña Well, it just is how the money management operates within the company. There's a lot of non-profits that are despicable and for profits which are heroic.
well that was just delightful, get him on more!!!
This video was so intense!
Well played
LeVar Burton on SciShow... this day couldn't be any more perfect!
I want to listen to LeVar more. :| He should do audiobooks. Seriously.
On Reddit, he talked about possibly doing a more adult version of Reading Rainbow, which would at least include talking about those books.
He should do a Vlog series like Crash Course Literature or something. That would be phenomenal!
He has a podcast reading stories, it's amazing!!!
AWESOME!!!!!!!
LeVar is so well spoken, what a man!
It's so cool that Hank was able to hook this up...
thumbs up... as a kid of the eighties (1981), seeing Levar again for the first time since i was six or seven (never got into trek) nearly brought a tear to my eye. to this day i still tell people "but you don't have to take my word for it" (the single phrase that ensured i would be a constant reader for life- which generally astonishes people, as i'm usually taken for a meat head until i open my mouth) when i feel like being a smart ass! great show guys!
My god, I've forgotten how wonderful his voice is
Keep him on SciShow please, he's a natural!
AHHHHHHHHHHHH THE MAN FROM READING RAINBOW. ;; Granted, I learned how to read (and loved reading) before I even heard of him but still, fond memories.
I grew up watching reading rainbow!!!! I watched this and listening to leVar made all those warm fuzzy feelings from the show come back.
Is it bad that I've been subscribed to this channel for 2 years and I only found out last week that Hank's brother is the Author of my favorite book? Hahah.

ellis0896 I did the same thing a about year ago XD
Welcome young nerdfighter!
Proof the green brothers are super awesome
Levar is everywhere right now! I totally want expecting him then. Awesome surprise! You should have him as an additional host for this channel or the space sci show!!
LeVar Burton is a good narrator. No wonder why he got the reading rainbow gig. I wan't him to read me bedtime stories.
damn i miss that show
Did you just put an apostrophe in the word 'want'? You're my hero.
Zminchu muscle memory I guess.
i was just thinking the same :)
He has a beautiful voice and a beautiful soul.
This Reading Rainbow program is short and explains different types of rainbows. It is very interesting. I enjoyed.
Thank you Valerie Aldi and Win Laychock for acknowledging This Reading Rainbow.

Thank you for liking this post.
This was perhaps the most informative and still, soothing explanation on anything I've ever heard. I need more Burton on RUclips!
I was.. Completely. Utterly. Surprised. Holy fuck.
Poor Brent when he goes into the school on the KS video.
LeVar's voice is amazingly enjoyable to listen to.
saw rainbows, video about water droplets, almost didn't click. Read description, clicked for star trek / reading rainbow :D
OMG THE FEELS
I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THIS!!!
I've seen you before in another video. Not this again
i almost cried while watching this.. he should do more narration. his silky smooth voice and his charisma is impeccable!!!
Levar Burton made my day better..
His voice is so soothing.
Thank you SO much for the Community reference.
LeVar is great. Your voice is so clear and soft. It's lovely.
1) OMG!!!!!
2) This was fascinating and I learned a lot.
3) LeVar Burton's voice is fantastic.
That is all.
I had no idea who the guest speaker was, but my word, has he the best storytelling voice ever!
Which is why his show "Reading Rainbow" lasted for 30 years. :)
How is that possible ? I kind of feel bad for you.
MSG685
My guess is this person lives or lived in a country where the show didn't air. I feel bad for this person too. :(
jhangelgurl Reading Rainbow and Star trek both are pretty well known. I would assume that if you have internet access you would know LeVar Burton.
Since we don't know this person we can only assume they don't have an interest in watching Star Trek. I've never watched an episode of Star Trek, but knew he was on the show since I live in America. That was quite possibly the greatest video I have ever seen. I loved that so much.
LeVar's awesome.
It was awesome that he wanted to do an episode of Sci Show. Very cool.
You actually got LeVar Burton, thats amazing.
I can't believe I recognized this guy from Reading Rainbow as soon as I saw him. I used to watch that show all the time as a kid.
READING RAINBOW!!!
Ahhh the memories... Why dont they have good shows like Reading Rainbow on tv now.?!?! :(
Reading Rainbow is being rebooted within the next few months, actually :)
Taylor Tootell
As a TV show again or just the app? If with a TV show will it have LeVar Burton??
LeVar was just fantastic. That voice is... ooh a rainbow!
That Community reference was amazing.
Ohhhh my gash! Even just his voice brings me back! Loved reading rainbow. Thanks for explaining this awesome phenomena!
I like how giddy Hank was about letting LaVar host. :D
Listening to Lavar is almost mesmerising...he holds your attention, impossible to space off!
This was pure awesome.
saw a full double rainbow over the mountains yesterday, so i couldn't resist watching this.
Mr. Burton yuss
Awesome instructor voice.
Love Levar Burton. Grew up watching him on reading rainbow & TNG. He's amazing, as is this show. Thanks!
zomg please get LeVar to do more episodes cuz that was totally wicked! (yes i grew up in the 80's. don't judge me)
His voice is like butter. So smooth...
LeVar is so gooood!!
I wanna watch this over and over again just to hear LeVar Burton's voice again. I missed it so much!
I don't see how LeVar Burton isn't praised for his genius, but people rather listen to Lil Wayne and Justin Beiber.
Ur gay
One word: marketing.
Nathan Bendich Another word: capitalism.
STKisCOOLIO Gay means happy so we are all gay :D
+coolman5242 The same reason kids will grab a bag of candy over a bag of walnuts

Ultra Sabers
lol I looked indirectly, still not for too long.
Though the light was somewhat dimmer than usual now that I think about it.
Might have been a "sun dog" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog
PLEASE have LeVar as a guest host more often! That was really good!
1. This was the coolest surprise!
2. dood! Hank, how you gonna let LB blow you up, you got come harder than that! 0:43

Love SciShow! Loved Reading Rainbow! Love this video!!!!
LeVar Burton. He made my childhood so much less sucky!
Clicked without reading the description. What a lovely surprise! I'm such a huge fan♡
"Well, a "double rainbow" is a phenomenon of optics that displays a spectrum of light due to the sun shining on droplets of moisture in the atmosphere. Does that explain it?"-Lux 2014
His Voice! Oh my gosh! It's just so awesome!
LeVar Burton is a goddamn vampire.
Black folk tend to age better then white folk. Melanin protects skin against sun damage which is what causes most visible aging.
killerbee256 Now that doesn't explain how Horihiko Araki, a relatively lightskinned Japanese man has literally not aged in 50 years.
I didn't think it would, but that VOICE! Boy it brings me back.
Can we keep him!
I had no idea just how much I've missed LeVar Burton teaching me things. This is great.
Mmmm that pleasent voice :)
I am so glad people still want to learn. I find myself often disappointed in the general public I see, but the people I "find" on this beautiful rainbow called the internet keep my spirits up and my interests high.
Geordi!!
I have such fond memories of LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow. It's good to see his face again.
How do perfectly circular rainbows form?
Every rainbow is circular.
War Rock If you're up high enough, it's a circle, but you need to be in an airplane. Because we're on the ground, we only get to see a small part of the circle, hence the arc shape. If you see a rainbow over a perfectly level horizon, say, the ocean, it should be a perfect half-circle.
Watch SciShow's other vid about rainbows.
Every rainbow is circular, but most of the time, when you see a rainbow you are on the ground and the lower half is below the horizon. If you're high up, like on a plane or helicopter, you might be high enough to have the entire circle above the horizon. Hope this helped :)

Joke: What is the highest altitude a butterfly has ever achieved? The cruising altitude of a commercial jet Is easily ten times that amount.
The best episode of SciShow EVER!!
OMG READING RAINBOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the same reaction! Talk about nostalgia :)
hahaha i know right
LeVar just makes everything sound interesting and enthralling
double rainbow what does this mean (lol quote if anyone gets it)
double rainbow all the way oh my god
This was one of the best moments of my life....inner fangirling has reached maximum. Was a huge fan of Reading Rainbow growing up, and of course once STTNG came out, loved LeVar even more.
Thanks so much for guest hosting!! Best wishes for the kickstarter!
OH HOLY SHIT
More zomg amazing guests please.
Give this man a RUclips channel. Hell, give him SciShow.
**sniff** so beautiful :,) **sniff**
That guy was so awesome! He should do one in SciShow space
Weeeeelll crap, now I have to go watch hundreds of hours of Star Trek TNG . . .
All these years later, and LeVar is still teaching me new stuff.
He sounds a bit like Morgan Freeman
except not at all lol. Unless you mean that they both voices made for audio.
Monique Pihl how he pitches the voice and pronouncing sounds a bit like morgan freemans.
***** Not at all lol
I knew some ignorant person was going to make a comment like this.
lilbriko say 2 reasons why im ignorant.
Why can't i like this more than once!!
Geordi/Reading Rainbow + Science class = AWESOME!!
Kunta Kinte! Win!!!!
kunta kinte? like as in roots?
***** Yes! 'Cause when you're as old as me, KK is who you associated w/Levar B.
Chris Rodriguez OH SHIT now i remember.
*****
It's Toby now!
Levar needs a RUclips channel explaining things!!! He is the man!
It's a scam hank! You're kickstarting a for-profit company!
BUTTERFLY IN THE SKY!!! I CAN GO TWICE AS HIGH!

LeVar's voice cures cancer, stops babies from crying, and is the rainbow after a storm. Thank you.
