I love freight trains, and there is something special about watching them in the Mojave Desert. I guess it's the openness and beauty of the desert. Awesome videos!
Merci Zachary Your vid is amazing. Really interesting for both raifanning and country visiting. I'll try to find the road you used and memorise it for an eventual tour in south California and AZ. Congrats for the quality ; I'm sure it wasnt captured with a phone ;-) Thanks for sharing Greetings from France
Maybe you can help, RailfanJunction. I've recently started watching these train videos, because I do like trains, but never got really into realfanning myself. My question is How do you tell which engine is what model, make, etc. I see the big ones at the beginning of the first clip at Helendale have those fan vents (?) that stick out like little wings. One model that I've seen mentioned is the SD-40. Is that what I am seeing here? Who makes the SD-40s? Thank you in advance for any introduction you can provide.

Can someone tell me what type of locomotive is @ 32:43 ? Looks kinda odd :/ ...
ponycar24fan That would be a GP60B, one of 23 built for Santa Fe in 1989.
