- Watch in HD! This video is more of a roadtrip than anything else, documenting the last days of "freedom" I had before heading to college in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I currently reside. As such, and seeing as though I have absolutely no opportunities to railfan in this area currently, the majority of my videos will be footage shot in California (Concurrently, of course) by my father.
Three days before I was scheduled to move into my dorm room, my father and I flew into Chicago Midway International airport from Ontario with one stated goal: try and capture as much Easter Railroading as we could before my time was up. Our first stop was the extremely busy BNSF "Racetrack" through the Western Suburbs, featuring train races, plenty of F40PH's, and especially the unique F40PH-3C Winnebago's that populate this section of Metra's lines. The next three days, we headed out to Norfolk Southern's former Conrail (nee PC, NYC, and LS&MS) Chicago Line, a literal conveyor belt of traffic moving between Chicago and Elkhart, Indiana, from where heads to the Eastern Seaboard. Featured in this section are standard cab leaders (include SD40-2's) former Conrail SD60M's and C40-8W's, plenty of NS DASH 9's, former UP SD90/43AC's, CP "haulage" run-through trains, CN power (including a cowl), the first two CN ET44AC's in existence paired up on a westbound manifest, train meets, races, and much, much more!

Probably the best railfanning video I've ever watched! Chicago is by far my favorite place to catch trains and it never gets old. At 30:20 that is probably the best picture I have ever seen of a train. If heaven had a railfan spot that was probably it. Keep up the great work and I hope for the best!

This video is amazing - I live in Germany and our trains here are completely different. We have 60-70% electric locomotives and the train cars do have 2 doors at the ends and the tops are rounded.

Up there in Grand Rapids is CSX and the railroads grand elk & mid michigan railroad. if looking for NS stuff i suggest Elkhart In during your breaks that come up every so often .
