- It is perhaps a record that will stand forever with the Top Fuel Motorcycles going to 1,000 foot in the new NHRA. On Nov 21, 2019 Top Fuel Motorcycle drag racer Larry "Spiderman" McBride stunned the motorcycle drag racing world with a world record run of 5.50 while he was testing for the Man Cup Nationals at South Georgia Motorsports Park, in Valdosta, Ga. Can remember Sammy Miller (at Santa Pod UK) was standing in fire-up road watching Henk Vink. Sammy says " You would,nt get me on one of those crotch rockets!!"
I would love the opportunity. And yeah, I raced drag bikes for several years, though nothing anywhere near that speed.
I love speed and have always said I would love to drive a top fueler but those top fuel bikes are a little above my crazy level! LOL@@justjames9775

Pretty sure NHRA fans have heard of top fuel motorcycle racing...
It's just a ramped up version on the nitro Harley class anyways...
And by "other level" did you mean the 25 mph difference in trap speeds??

What engine is this?
I like how all of the competitors come over and congratulate them. Racing people are a nice group of people and always have been. I left my boots at home one day and my fiercest competitor who I didn’t like because he beat me all the time, heard about it and came over to loan me his spare boots. I felt guilty racing the guy after that. He still be beat and I learned a lot about friendship. I wish that all politicians and everyone in the world for that matter got into motorcycle racing and we would be a much better place.

I used to be on a Drag Bike team almost 30 years ago called Turbo Jims Racing. He ran a turbo charged methyl-alcohol bike. 6 seconds @200ish mph was a fast bike back then. We ran mid 6's usually.

I used to drag race when I was still in high school at irwindale and Orange county in Southern California, and raced and rubbed elbows with all the biggest players including Terry Vance and Byron Hines long before Vance & Hines. They were working for RC engineering (Russ Collins)
At that time Russ Collins was running a custom double 750 Honda (made into a V8) with a Buick V6 blower, and double chains.
I only saw him run a 7 second quarter mile but I'm sure it had potential to go faster.
He kept breaking chains.
I guess the moral to the story is that it's absolutely unbelievable how much different things are today versus 40 years ago!!

@lancelanphier9509 I probably met you at one time or another. I set a record at Fremont in B gas. Kawi 4, carbs, gas and a Kosman frame. 9.42 @ 142 MPH (1975). I knew those guys you are talking about.

Probably why they wear a protective vest....
The bike engines are pushed to point of being powerful yet durable enough for multiple runs. TF drag, FC's, and hydroplanes are pushed just short of breaking (catastrophically). If you compare HP/Liter you have 1.5 liter bike vs 8.2 liter car or 1,500 HP bike vs 11,000 HP car which equals 1000 HP/L vs 1341 HP/L. I feel you though .. I wouldn't care to have such highly stressed parts between legs and under chest. Safer I spose that the blower and injection system runs into side of head instead of V8 style from the top between the banks. Falling off for what ever reason at 200 mph on up .. also wouldn't excite me

Thanks for the great video. In the description you list the run as 1000 feet, the quarter mile is 1320 feet. So was it a quarter mile time or 1000 foot time?
The crankling exhaust note is a telling sign of how powerful that motor is!
1700 horsepower.....and while 5.50 is the 1/4 mile record, McBride has since gone faster - 268mph. Unbelievable.
That crackling exhaust note is typical for when they run Nitro Methane...
