- Eighth part of ITV's coverage of the 1997 general election, from 5 AM to 6.10 AM. Presented by Jonathan Dimbleby with Michael Brunson.
The special election programme ended at 5.50 AM, to be followed by a brief news bulletin presented by Denis Tuohy. There was then a long period of dead air before GMTV started.

Thanks to the genius who uploaded this coverage. It was great to be able to watch it again, brought the whole thing back. Hard to believe it was almost twenty years ago.
They got it wrong at 37:09 when they said the Tory Graham Riddick had held on in Colne Valley. He didn't hang on, he lost his seat to Labour's Kali Mountford.
John Major's speech at the Tory HQ was extraordinary - dignified in defeat - honourable, kind and warm. Things now totally lacking from the Conservative Party of 2023. Even with all his flaws, John Major was a very decent and good Conservative Prime Minister.
So ITN Morning News came on air for a short burst it seems. It then ends, and then there is a terribly long pause until the dot of 6am is reached and the GMTV franchise takes over, with a GMTV holding slide in place on the lead up to 6am. Very sloppy from ITV.
Possibly there was meant to be a brief regional update, but for some reason, in whatever region this was recorded in, failed to get on air?
@@2001JamesTV I believe this was recorded from the Carlton London region. Carlton seems to have had a balls up at their HQ in London. As at 57:09 the announcer comes on to apologise, but only after over a minute of silence. I think Carlton had a breakdown, and couldn't put on trailers.
