  • Ninth part of ITV's coverage of the 1997 general election, from 9.29 AM to 10.30 AM. A brief introduction to the second day from Jonathan Dimbleby is followed by a regional opt-out slot. (Shown here is Carlton's London Today programme)
Jonathan Dimbleby and Michael Brunson return at 10 AM.
From 26.11 - 26.22 note the empty development site of what became Portcullis House; the London Eye would also block the shot today.

I was never a fan of John Mayor's government but compared with the skip fire of a government we have today Mayor's team were dynamic and professional.

Indeed. The Tories under Maggie and Major governed in what they genuinely believed to be in the best interests of the people. I might vehemently disagree with the wisdom of the plan or that this was the outcome, I might be furious with how far they were prepared to go without regard for those who were wholly unsupported through the changes, but I can't dispute that they believed what they were doing was for good, and that they built their ministerial teams towards achieving those aims.
The Tories of at least the last four years (in my opinion considerably longer, but unquestionably four) have simply been in it for themselves and their 8+ figure net worth mates, to the exclusion of absolutely everyone else and the country as an entity.

No Tories in Scotland. Good times.
