Hillary Klug and Mairead Nesbitt collaborate on a fusion of traditional Celtic and Appalachian music! They fiddle and dance in Bru Boru and the Rock of Cashel in Tipperary, Ireland.

"This project is a dream come true for me! I'm so thankful for the experience of getting to meet and film with Mairead Nesbitt! She's a phenomenal fiddler with a heart of gold! We were instant friends, and the dynamic was as though I've known her and played with her for years! I look forward to future projects with her!!
We're playing a traditional tune, and the special thing about this tune is that it's common to both the Irish and Appalachian fiddle traditions. In Ireland, they call it "Miss McLoud's Reel," and in America we call it "Did You Ever See the Devil Uncle Joe?" It has other names including "Hop High Ladies." Obviously we took the liberty of combining a few names to make it our own. In the recording, you can hear the distinct differences between Irish and Old-Time fiddle. While they're completely unique, they also compliment each other in this fusion we created!"

Took the words right out of my mouth.
Thanks SO much for these amazing comments! LOVE playing with Hillary & we hope to do more soon!!
First saw Mairead at the Liverpool Empire ,where she was supporting Michael Flatley, this is a brilliant collaboration, there is another Mairead who isn't half bad ....my daughter..peace and love from the wirral..last known whereabouts of sir Gawain and the green knight...E
Thoroughly enjoyed that, Hillary you never cease to deliver and Máiréad Nesbitt you’re a national treasure!
Ciaran Mc Cormack Thanks so much! Máiréad is amazing! Such an inspiration to my music and dance!
When you’re back I’m coming to see you! Thanks for being so fantastic 😉
I have admired Mairead Nesbitts music for years, and her energy! Oh my! And for the past year have followed Hillary, been thinking that someday with her energy that she would be another miss Nesbitt.
Bluegrass, & Irish Fiddlers. Two different sounds that goes So Well Together!!!!
Thank A Lot Ladies!!!!
Appalachian, not bluegrass ✌😎 but it does sound awesome!
@Freeda Peeple, bluegrass comes from the Appalachian region, and last time I checked, Hillary’s music was from the bluegrass genre.
@@Aurochhunter No, bluegrass was specifically and intentionally invented in the 1930s by Bill Monroe, who intended it to be his own personal style and was very upset when others copied it. Nothing before Bill Monroe is bluegrass.
I don’t consider my fiddling to be bluegrass. I call it “old-time,” but a lot of people use bluegrass as a blanket term for traditional fiddle in a lot of regions and other countries. There’s really not a lot of difference, and it can sound the same. So if people call it bluegrass, I just leave it alone and don’t correct them 🤷🏼♀️ There’s enough cross over tunes, notes, and licks.
@@HillaryKlug You are correct, and what's more I was mistaken about where Bill Monroe was from. My apologies to anyone I offended in my ignorance.
Oh joy, this is the day, made since the beginning of time. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. They say make your own happiness, so I will. I choose to be happy and am, from here on out. Nothing but blue skies, from now on. This music makes me automatically happy.
I have been a fan of Mairead for years, ever since I first saw her with Celtic Woman. Hillary, you picked the right person to be your inspiration. Two beautiful ladies who are phenomenal fiddle players; it just doesn't get much better than that.
Been a fan of Mairead's for years, since first seeing (hearing) her with Celtic Woman. I JUST stumbled across Hillary literally two days ago when she popped up in my RUclips suggestion box. My immediate first thought was how cool it would be for the two of them to get together and collaborate on some fiddle music. But nah, I thought, they're in two different genres, and the chances of the two ever stumbling across each other nil. Sonuvagun, first swallow of coffee this AM THIS pops up!! Did I kick the bucket overnight and wind up where I'd hoped? Unlikely as the prospect. Nope, checked and still have a pulse. This may not be heaven, but close as this ol Texas boy will likely ever see. Thanks ladies. You made my day. THIS is as good a start to a day as mere mortals are gonna ever get.
I don’t think they’ve hit their stride yet either. I think they’re, experimenting, seeing what works since they have different rhythms .

I just found this, but I'm curious, as a starter, why does she have the mute on the violin?
That was absolutely beautiful. Would love to see more of the two of you, the mixing of the to styles is awesome together. Not to mention your both easy on the eyes to watch.
dozersfb69 We have another video! 😁 Stay tuned!
@@HillaryKlug how hard is it to learn the fiddle
These two ladies are absolute sweethearts Bravo to both
Ever met'em?
Rod knows well
I feel so old and proud to see these young ladies having fun! Let their light shine! 🙏
I am smiling from ear to ear. Feet tapping. Thank you. From a 71 year old needing a smile today.
Never have I seen such talent matched with the joy of the moment. The two of you have such incredible energy!
I don't know which was greater, the joy on your faces or the joy in your bows. Love you both and thank you.
This is MY kind of "longhair" music. Beyond excellent, ladies!
I love these two, so much energy and passion in their playing.❤
Such stunningly beautiful hair drives men delightfully insane, and we love that type of madness! I love all of this and the talent and entertainment value that many millions of us no doubt miss!
Marvelous the pair of you played brilliantly a pair of beautiful young talented ladies thank you
Love for you both, from Valencia, Spain 💗💗
Mixing two beautiful talents and making something extraordinary!!! Well done ladies...my arms are still vibrating from the goose bumps!
My goodness, that was so wonderful to see the both of you absolutely wrapped up in the enjoyment of your talents together! Breathtaking!!
Bewitched by Mairead for years, and to see someone who can keep up with her and both having so much fun was a true delight. Thank you!
345 thumb downers, have never experienced the cliffs off of Cape Bretton Island, with a sea captain on his fishing boat for hire, playing music like this as he called in the whales, positioning his boat so the sun glistened like diamonds across the water as they breeched, played as my daughter and I watched the magic in complete awe. Such beautiful music, bringing back sweet memories. Thank you for sharing your gift of the heart! ❤
You must be a poet or a writer, Morgaine. Your comment was lovely.
The two ladies did an outstanding job it was Perfect Pitch and mastery have a fine art the collaboration was fantastic it makes you want to get up and move and dance to the music also a stunning performance
It was great to see that someone was smart enough to put these two wonderful and talented ladies together. Thank you.
I’m a big fan of Mairead. She’s always been the energy booster of the Celtic Woman shows, and a real pleasure to watch and hear. I have never seen her look at her instrument while she performs. She was probably born with it in her hands. These two ladies playing together was a real treat.
Truly amazing work by both ladies. How one can play the fiddle that well and be dancing as much as they do is mind boggling. That and they are both drop dead gorgeous - wow, a real joy to watch and hear.
'
Why didn't youtube recommend this to me earlier? I've been missing out for three bloody years! Damn you, algorithm
I've been waiting to see this collaboration for a long time. Now get Lindsey Stirling, The Harp Twins, and the Gothard Sisters to join you in a PBS special, and my bucket list will be complete. Love you both!👏👏👏😊🎶🎻🎻❤❤👍👍
Too right.
Hell, you might as well add Caitlin De Ville.
Howard Montjoy I’m not familiar with Caitlin, and she doesn’t have long, blond hair.😄
And get Mark O'Connor to ride by on his skateboard.
Three lovely ladies featuring their beautiful swirling hair, joyful spirits, delightful dancing, spectacular smiles, and also perfect fiddling. Can't be better than this.
Three ?
Молодцы, девчонки!!! Сбацали и сыграли на скрипках великолепно!
🎉❤❤❤🎉
Mind blowing how good both these lovely ladies are! They don't age! Another mind blowing fact is that Mairead Nesbitt is 40 years old in this video! Beauty and music that is ageless!
You’re both really good! I love the tune and the location. Hillary your hair is so long, it’s amazing to see it when you dance!
A dream incredibly come true!! Have so often thought of you & Mairead playing together. Nothing is more natural than the two of you bringing your skills & talents to the same stage together.
Now, can we get Celtic Women to Have the two of you in a guest spot??
I just love them! I'm a 72 yr old grandfather surfer from Huntington Beach CA. They brighten my days! Listen to them daily .
Growing up near Athens Alabama my good friend and fiddle player Gary Mackey and I played this tune. He called it “ Fried Chicken 🍗 Uncle Joe” RIP Gary, those were great times!
David Barr
I loved Mairead when she played with Celtic woman she to me is a world class violen player. Hillary this is the first time I ever heard you and I enjoyed it and want to hear more from both of you.
Hillary always looks like she's having the time of her life!
I watched this again tonight and am still enthralled by the interaction, the dance, and the music of these two beautiful women.
Well, it's confirmed:Mairead Nesbitt is a faerie! She doesn't age. Lovely fiddling, ladies. Learned that tune as a pipe reel. Great stuff.
I love to hear this kid play, she's right good. Her friend too. Right good.
I am astonished at how well these two music styles blend.
Like, you can definitely tell where one ends and the other begins but the transition is almost SEAMLESS and seems to flow utterly naturally without feeling at all forced.
I also love that two of my favourite Fiddle Artists did a Collaboration. Much love to you both.
because they are related. one grew out of the other. The american style is sort of playful and wild and twangy, where as the Celtic Old World style is more...mature, ancient sounding... haunting even
@@Winaskacouldn't have said it better 👌
I don't know how you can hop around and Irish dance and still play so well. Good for you. Enjoyable. 3/2022.
The more I see what a fantastic young woman I am 72, never seen a talent like hers.
Two extremely talented ladies bringing joy to our hearts! Fabulous!
What a beautiful combination of music performed by such amazingly talented ladies. More please!
Ahhhh makes my heart sing, thank you so much ladies.
I have trouble walking & chewing gum at the same time. These young ladies are dancing while playing the fiddle & killing it.

Two talented young beauties! Love watching and listening to you ladies!
Beautiful music played beautifully by two beauties. ‘Nuff said!
Its really nice to see when young people are really into their talent & get such enjoyment out of playing. They are true artists to the music industry.
I am 51 years young and I have been in a possession of my grandfather's violin since I was 11 but never really stuck with learning it until now. I am inspired by your gift an now I know of another violinist thank you for introducing her. I will be watching her videos as well for inspiration.
Now these ladies are talented. My great grandmother was born in Ireland 1840.
Vous êtes tout simplement magnifiques...Merci à vous...

schön wie immer Grüße aus Idar-Oberstein
I pray you fiddle into your 90's and beyond. An excelent rolemodel for young ladies!
I love how the Scotch Irish on both sides of the pond are reaching out to each other after all of these centuries.
The funny thing is the music, dancing, and accents all, haven't changed much.
Appalachia is historically Ulster Scot, I am unaware of which side of the Boyne that Mairead is from, and neither woman cares.
That's kind of beautiful in itself.
Well said, that man.
fiddle reels and strathpeys are indigenous to Scotland, always played at ceildhs. the fiddle was introduced to Ireland around the 1700s. the irish learned many Scottish reels
Mairead is from Loughmore which is in county Tipperary in the Republic.
@Michael Halligan Hi Michael I don’t understand why Irish people would be insulted by the title Scots/ Irish. All it means and ,I am sure you know, is that they were people with a Scottish ancestry (mainly border Scots) that had settled in Ulster in Ireland. Many of them subsequently emigrated to America and settled in Appalachia and other areas of America .🏴😊
@@r.johnston919 That's all basically true as far as I have read, but misses a key aspect, namely why they settled there. The English king (I forget which one) had sent them there to colonize and attempt to take over Ireland in that manner. To establish a beach head, so to speak. My mother's family are of Ulster Scots descent also.
That was an amazing performance with both of you playing together. Love the Celtic/Irish music!
Josh Rodrigues Thanks! I have more Celtic music coming out! Stay tuned!
Gotta say, i never heard of a celtic musician playing a violin before and dancing like this. I'm just in awe, i love it so much, you hillary need more subbers, more likes. Hail from Canada.
Um Kai, Maireid was voted best fiddle in Ireland - and she doesn't think it's dancing - she just lets the music move her. This is very likely a song that came to NC/TN hills from Ireland & got 'bluegrassized'.
Kai Mariead si probably one of the best violin musicians known in the world..Particularly accompanied by he dancing. Go watch almost any of the Celtic Women video's and she is prominently displayed in at least half in not more of them. She is not just good she is tremendous. I liked violen and fiddle before I saw and heard Maread but after seeing and listening to her with Celtic women I was absolutely mesmerized. Please watch Celtic women and you will thank yourself repeatedly.
La tua passione, il tuo sorriso, la tua musica sempre mi rende una felice giornata!! Your passion, your smile, your music always makes a very happy day!!!
Hillary never fails to put a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart. There is hope in the World. When we can stop for a moment and enjoy. You two were Great.

very well done and Hillary you look gorgeous in that outfit.
It's amazing how that the long hair doesn't get in the way of the fiddling,.
harvey harris It does sometimes! 😆 I had a hard time recording my “Cliffs of Moher” video because of the wind blowing my hair into my fiddle and in my face.
Wow , agreed an amazing gift indeed! Both look amazing while dancing around n all of the golden lites dances in the air! Gorgeous indeed! Insure it for the max allowed by law! You are such a precious gift! Thank you!

I love you both. The first time I saw Hillary perform I thought, "The Irish is strong in this one." Then I thought she should perform with my all time favorite Violin player Mairead Nesbitt. Now here you are. I am very pleased.
