    Thomas Paine... an unsung hero, indeed. Very good documentary. Thank you for publishing. Simply brilliant.

    Thomas Paine did not "fail" at his many jobs as is stated in your documentary. in fact, he became a master staymaker, and a greatly admired tax collector amongst his coworkers, who actually nominated him to represent them all in a attempt to better their working conditions and increase wages. please correct your documentary as it is wrong and doesn’t properly and truthfully represent his younger years. Thank You!

    He also aided in the French revolution, as an admirer of Paine the following epitaph is fitting - 'Englishman by birth, American by adoption, French by decree'.
    Paine's works are overlooked a lot as he was no friend of the wealthy elites that ruled after the revolution, they wrre'nt much better than the rulers before, one elite had been swapped for another but Paine was an idealist & was for the common man, he was the democratic socialist of his time & a staunch opponent of slavery.

      Well said. From this quotes being shown shows its striking truths....even about religion. Most of religion is sun worship and is astrotheological literature for the simple minded people. That is what I have learned looking at the correlation of astrology and religion. Woaw amazement

    Paine went through the ringer in his lifetime. His wife died a couple years after they were married. He unsuccessfully begged and cajoled members of parliament to improve excise officers' pay and working conditions. He took up his musket and fought during the Revolutionary War. When our Revolution was complete, he went to France to try and help them achieve independence through revolution. When he begged for Louie the 16th's life to be spared by the Jacobins, he himself was put in the Luxembourg Prison. He lived in appalling conditions for 11 months with the expectation of death every day. George Washington did nothing to help secure his release because at the time, Paine was public enemy number 1in Britain (for thinking the wrong shit, pretty much) and Washington wanted to distance himself from him. After all he did for Washington personally and America as a whole! When James Monroe and Thomas Jefferson got Paine back to America, he wasn't even allowed to vote! Time after time he sacrificed himself for the greater good. He lived in extreme poverty and never took money for the books he wrote or diplomatic work he did. He didn't care what happened to him, as long as he left the Earth better than it was! Why is Thomas Paine still ignored? Is his message still that scary to some people that it still needs to be suppressed 240 years later?? He's the Father of America and true Republicanism! Hell, he named the place!

      Yes the messages of *freedom* , and religion being a lot to do with *sun worship* are HUGE!

    Thomas Paine was a Democrat... says who? Thomas Paine frequently stated that he was NOT a member of any political party, but he took an active part in helping the Republican (Jeffersonian) Party achieve its ends. So if anything, that was his leaning. But he never played party politics.

      yeah I'd say he was more of libertarian or an advocate of freedom labeling him a Democrat is an insult but I think she assumes if someone believes the people get a vote then they're a Democrat ie: Democratic system it's pretty pathetic naive thinking for a professional

    Thomas Paine is the true author of the American Declaration of Independence (ADOI) as proven by computer analysis of the document by linguistic scholars at the University of Aberdeen (97% Paine

    • @nthperson
      @nthperson 6 лет назад

      Can you point me to the study by these scholars. I have written on this issue with regard to Paine and the Declaration. An analysis by a scholar at a Canadian university published findings that reached the opposite conclusion. Also, this is the first time I have read that Paine made a statement about his authorship of the Declaration. thanks.

      Quick Summary: The Authorship of the American Declaration of Independence: Peter W.H. Smith, David Rickards, University of Aberdeen U.K. April 1, 2008. "Test results indicate that Thomas Paine is the possible (100% proof only possible with the original document which has been "lost" to history by handwriting analysis) author of the historic document." Adams Copy of the ADOI was used. However, it is clear that Jefferson's contribution to Independence and the ADOI is considerable. It is suggested that Paine was asked or instructed to draft the framework of the ADOI by Jefferson, or by another member of the committee such as Franklin or Adams. It is almost certain that Paine was instructed to use material from both Summary View and the Virginia Constitution. While authorship attribution can never be entirely conclusive, the results presented provide a possible case for Paine's authorship. Russell Gerrard-statistical analysis. Sheila Munton British Library. A study using discriminant analysis of the consistency of Jefferson's and Paine's writing using Burrow's Delta method. The application of the word vector to the ADOI. etc. etc." When I presented this evidence to the Thomas Paine Facebook website I was told it was "nonsense". To which I replied "No it is Common Sense!" I am glad to conduct a rational discourse on the subject, but not to be slurred. Thomas Paine has been given short shrift by the US Government, but worldwide he is better recognized. Three gold statues of him have been errected: one in Paris, one in his birthplace of Thetford, England and one in Morristown N.J. There should have been a commemerative coin issued by the US mint in 2013 the 250th anniversary of Common Sense, the impetus for the American Revolution. I would say he is one of the most important thinkers since Jesus of Nazareth!

    A stay maker did not make corsets. Stays were ropes forming the standing rigging of a sailing ship. Thomas made stays for ships not ladies. This lead him into customs work and an interest in Bridge Engineering. This documentary is rubbish. Thomas deserves better.

      A "stay" is indeed a rope used in ships, but a "staymaker" is a corsetmaker.
