I’m wondering if recruitment levels are low and this is why people who are not qualified to do the job get selected anyway. With all the focus on police it will send recruitment numbers even lower like it did in the U.S, which will mean even worse people.
When I was about 9 I was in the shop with my friends who were all stealing chocolate so I did it also. We got caught and we got into trouble. Years later when a fire arm cop came to interview my boyfriend about his firearm he said that I should join the police. I said that you had to be honest to join the police and he was laughing. I was thinking about the chocolate bar I took as a child and when I told him about that he looked at me as if I was crazy. He said that was nothing and I should join as they needed people like me. But I just thought it would be hypocritical to arrest people for shoplifting when I had done it myself. Now I know why he thought I was crazy hearing about the violent, lying, thieving, killing cops that are in the force today.

I was a West Mids officer, now retired on health grounds. During my service, my them young wife was sexually assaulted by my tutor constable. Nothing happened to him. He was moved and it was covered up. My wife had a breakxown as a result. I also found an on duty CID officer engaged in public toilet sex with a child. That too was covered up. Sexual offending is/ was rife in the police service, as are assaults against other officers who speak out. Its not just the Met.
I think we need to send the young overweight new women police we see in London to guard the MPs with all this money now appropriated for THEIR security.

Why the police who have the power to remove the freedoms of a person based on just what they say, are allowed to go UNVETTED FOR THIER ENTIRE CAREERS after the initial training is beyond my understanding.
