They don't do proper ridealongs for obvious reasons. They might do the odd one here and there for a TV channel but most of the time they're years old, generally speaking they don't do ridealongs full stop anymore as it's deemed too dangerous by the nature of the calls they are responding to.

The issue with the VCTF was there were many inexperienced officers taken from the Safer Transport Command in the early days. This meant young inexperienced officers being given a lot of skills to do the job but they couldn't do it properly. Hence why it has been disbanded now.

I see people stopped often and every time someone is young and black is stopped people get busy asking why have you stopped him etc and make situations unpredictable - Then you see Parents of young Black Children asking why don't the Police do anything to stop knife crime- Can't win either way.

"Random" stop and search... no such thing by the nature of stop and search there needs to be grounds for a lawful search. A "Random" stop and search implies that an officer would just approach a completely random person and search them for the sake of doing so... there wouldn't be the opportunity to formulate grounds that are at least reasonable if this was the case.
For instance, an officer would be unreasonable in searching someone because they said "I'm searching you because you're wearing a white t-shirt and a baseball cap" if it was a completely "random" stop and search.
However, if they are responding to an incident of "male has robbed another person, suspect male described as 5'10 wearing a white t-shirt and baseball cap and upon arriving at the location they spot you with those items of clothing metres from the incident location then it's entirely reasonable for them to suspect you MAY be involved and therefore the officer MIGHT decide to search you on that basis. This isn't a "random" stop and search because there has to be some form of grounds for a legal search to occur.

The reality of the situation is that in major, ctime-ridden areas like Metropolitan London, the police do actually need increased levels of powers, to deal with the ever higher levels of violent crime perpetrated with loaded firearms and a profusion of knives. Knife crime is particularly prevalent.
Unfortunately, many among the police will abuse whatever level of authority they have and the predominantly (definitely racially profiled) black skin colour youthful males, will resist 'stop and search' proceedures upon every occasion it's experienced.
Members of the public will also increasingly intervene in whas t is seen as unfair tactics.
There is no trust in police officers.
Corruption is still wide-spread in 'The Met'
It permeates most levels of a police force with an over-all demoralised dis,- affection with the job and the community it is supposed to 'serve and protect' in general.
Near critical levels of collapse of the effectiveness of the police force, are absolutely evident.
Crime prevention needs to be highlighted and increased as a priority.
Bold suppression, by means of targeting suspected groups of individuals is the one facility that police have and some have the confidence to use, for some safety in the community.

It’s Brixton... Everyone in Brixton is black... The U.K. is multicultural but there is segregation by area.
I guess the difference is do police, police other areas in this way?. They would argue they police by crime type. Brixton had a spate of knife crime. Perhaps comparing policing in Brixton to Glasgow (a white area with knife crime) would be more appropriate.

It's the vehicle that attracts the attention, not the driver. If it was white guy in the hire car it would still have been stopped if it had the same intel....
It's always amusing when people think that because "officers have stopped 3 black males" the next person they stop should be white. That defeats the point of stop and search and is then borderline unlawful, because you are not using grounds as such but just "stopping them because they are white" to appease other people, the point of a s&s is if sufficient grounds exist, not if they're black or white.

@@jacksdjfam What makes you say that?
As a serving officer myself I always decide what vehicle I want to stop, or my colleague does if he's driving....
ANPR markers get put on the vehicle, they activate either a static camera or a mobile one mounted to a vehicle, the officers can view the alert and then decide whether to respond to it or not depending on the priority and the offence.

    • @shizzyorleone09
      @shizzyorleone09 Год назад +7

okay, first of all, police can stop a car for any reason. Secondly, they said hire cars have been used by gangs before so there is your intel. Thirdly, this VCTF unit was called as backup to assist other officers. We weren't told why the hire car caught their attention in the first place. You weren't involved and know nothing yet you feel the need to jump to conclusions. The whole point of a stop is to investigate, if nothing is found that's fine but it seems you think the Police NEED to find something to justify a stop? That's not how it works.

Maybe when this was recorded in this area. I'm serving in the Met and I can assure you VCTF are still very much a thing. Lots of stop and search and a lot of vehicle chases which usually result in finding typically a weapon or weapons, drugs, or a person wanted for a serious offence, often things like attempted murder, murder, GBH with intent, etc.
