We always need to run stop and search as the streets have become lawless. There needs to be a deterrent to carrying a shank and that deterrent is fear of being caught with it. But sentences need to be higher as I saw loads of people in Prison earlier this year for knives and most were out before me! Most only had 6months (serve 3 in prison) for carrying a Rambo knife on the street

Back in the 1970s i was working in the west end of London at the time of the IRA bombings. I was a white Londoner in my 20s with long curly hair, i was stopped several times and searched by the police
Which was never nice but neccessary. The police officers were plain clothes officer and were, shall we say very firm when they stopped me. Once they searched me and established who i was and where i was going they would appologise and we went our separate ways. This was profiling as as being white with curly hair also with a limp probably fitted their idea of a possible bomber at the time. Its obvious what my point is. I can sympathise with those people that have to go through this but if the police were just to stand by and do nothing they would be criticised fir that as well.
Interesting alternative experience, your comment was quite interesting, had no idea people saw that as a profile for an IRA bomber, there's also an interesting common talking point about how black and irish experiences are mirrored (even if you are not irish yourself).

I’ve never been stopped or searched in my life. I wear hoodies most of the time and drive a black tinted car, but when police talk to me I’m polite and they can tell I’m educated. Never once did the conversation go past 1 minute before they were done. Just let these dickheads have their power trip and be on your way.

I am a 54 year old white man and I have had a several encounters with the police and most of the time the police have talked down to me, but if you do use stop and search, do it with people skills. Don’t talk down to people and treat people on the level and then you might get some respect.

In my area there are white 'thugs' who are comfortable to walk around with large quantities of cannabis in their bags. The statistics are scewed when certain groups are more likely to be stopped and areasted. Meanwhile other criminals are never caught.

I am a white boy and i've been stopped before in London. I was cycling my bike in and around the same area for quite a while and officers who were on static patrol caught on to me and had a word with me to see what I was up to. It didn't really faze me that much because I didn't have anything to hide and I just put it all down to experience.
If you haven't got anything to hide I don't see what the problem is. The only people who have got the problem are the ones doing something wrong.

2013 this was filmed amazing the following years where the police was encouraged not to do stop and search crime levels went up and more people started to carry knifes . We then saw a push late 2018/2019 for stop and search and crime started to fall in certain areas that had high % of stop and search. So what does that tell you! it's a practice that works.
I would personally point to the years where people was against stop and search as to the reason why we have this high level of knife carrying. Yes mistakes have been made by the police in the past but communities need to take action/responsibility instead of always looking for an excuse.

I understand the feelings that "it's because I'm black" from a differing angle, i had a sports car, i look young, i got stopped every week for a month, but i responded politely and I told them how regularly i was getting stopped. I don't break the law, getting stopped even on some shifty premise does not make me feel worried, it makes me feel that at least they are trying to do something about people causing problems. If that is gangs in your area, unruly drivers or hooligans or any variety, regardless of colour or race then you should be thankful, if you aren't doing anything wrong and you don't respond with hostility then they will not take further action. Growing up in this era of police contempt i realise more than ever the consequences of things as little as poor manners. please. If you're not doing anything wrong, don't make their lives harder.

I've always had issues with American police doing this, but for some reason, I don't have the same issues with British police doing the same thing.

What is needed is much more leeway for police to take whatever action they feel necessary. Stop and search based on a copper's gut instinct is an excellent and effective approach - not just in detection and prevention of drug and knife related offences but also as a counter to anti-social, threatening behaviour that doesn't quite cross the line into formal criminality, but should be checked. Altogether, police should adopt a zero toleration approach and come down like a ton of bricks on offenders and unruly, unco-operative suspects.

The 1st thing the British judicial system HAS to do is decriminalize OR legalize cannabis. This would solve so much trouble on the streets,in courts,jails and free up police to do other things. It would take cannabis control out of gangs hands and create £Millions in UK taxes. The majority of Europe already has AND most of the US. Britain is so far behind the rest of the world in many ways.

In the 70s I was often stopped and searched under the old Sus laws. It happened almost every time I went out. and on one occasion I was stopped twice in the same night. As I'm white there was nothing I could do about it other than be polite and cooperate.

Ive been stopped and searched and have no problems with it. The coppers were polite and there were no issues. Perhaps the real problems and complaints come from those that do things to hide!!

LOOOOOOL Actually you might want to check that, it's actually majority white. In of 2020 over 600,000 arrest were made 130k black 120k Asian and other ethnic minorities. Meaning that over 350k of those arrest were white. Of those arrest made in relatence to weapon carrying studies found that areas of poverty were more likely to produce a higher percentage in all racial backgrounds. Interestingly of the 130k arrest made only 61% were satisfiable, mean almost 40% of those arrest were dropped due to lack of evidence or no evidence. Of the 350k arrest made 86% of the cases were satisfiable. The truth hurts doesn't it😂😂.

Why are they so concerned about their group being disproportionately stopped and searched and not their group being disproportionately involved in robbery and murder? Why should we care about your feelings when you don't care about our lives?
Got stopped and searched more times than I can remember when I was young, so what. If people were being knifed in my area I would want the police to be doing more stop and search because it works i.e. stopping people getting killed. My understanding is that if you are a young black man you are far more likely to be knifed or be carrying a knife so it would appear right and logical that more young black man in these areas get stopped and searched. What I don't understand is why black community leaders are not calling for more and why this causes problems for the black community?

What law says driving with one hand off the wheel is illegal? None whatsoever.
It would need to be seriously distracting or careless (i.e speeding, swerving around) for it to be careless driving.
The use of a personal radio at the wheel is permitted, as it's classified as a two way communications device that operates on a certain frequency, therefore exempt from the mobile phone law, the same applies to CB radios, so legally truck drivers could use a CB radio whilst driving if they wanted, however they are not common at all in the UK to my knowledge.
Imagine the rough areas without any police involvement??? That would be a carnage !

I've just been badly stopped and searched in London and I've uploaded it on my channel. The way some police officers conduct stop and search is disgusting and change is needed. We are not animals and being dragged out in handcuffs from your car when no crime has been committed is abysmal. They also lied about "the smell of cannabis" in my vehicle and it's absolutely atrocious.
And here we are in 2019... Worse than ever !!
