Hmm, I'm still waiting for one! I agree the new features are exciting, however this version is slower than cold pouring molasses from a jar. Ridiculously slow!
Wow, my appreciation for Topaz is ever increasing. Just watched a video from photographer Matt Kloskowski who tried out a couple Topaz plugins and became a believer. These plugins will definitely expand your camera if you have low megapixels (Gigapixel AI), poor low light performance (DeNoise AI) and camera shake (Sharpen AI).
Thank you for your prompt evaluation. I can now update mine with confidence. I really appreciate you taking the time to give us your valuable opinion so quickly. You did it again 👏
Yes, I am absolutely thrilled with the new version. With the setting "Low Resolution" I can really enlarge the pictures of my MFT cameras twice and get fantastic results with 80 cm print width at 300 DPI. This is not possible with "Super-resolution" from Adobe. The differences are like night and day. The previous version was fine. But this version is even better. Who needs a full-frame camera with 50 or 80 gigapixels? I will hardly have to use the HighRes mode of my Olympus OM-1 III either. With this program I can also print out moving motifs with the small MFT sensor.Yes, I am absolutely thrilled with the new version. Thanks so much for testing this out today, Anthony. I tried it with a small older jpg but Gigapixel AI crashed 3 times when trying to move around the image. Maybe it's because I'm on an older mac version (High Sierra) 2017 iMac. I did get it to eventually use the Low Compression one but while saving it crashed once again during the process, though it did actually save the image beforehand.
@@DennisMathias I'm glad it is working fine for you, Dennis. There are some people over at the Topaz Labs forum who are having the crashing problems when running High Sierra and Mojave, so they put out a Beta version which I installed and is working without crashes. That Low Compression worked really nicely with an old jpg. :)
Anthony, I usually send out low-resolution images to clients. Would this be a game-changer for them? I stay away from watermarking images, but now I may have to start? What do you think?
My thoughts are, it will mostly be photographers that will know about this software. The average client won't. And even if they do, the cost of the software will probably deter them from buying it. That's not to say it couldn't happen.
Anthony would you please explain why we would use Topaz Jpeg to Raw . It strikes me that because we can open a jpeg in Gigapixel Ai ..process and save as tiff . Thank you
Anthony, have you tried comparing the previous version to this one. I seen some reviews that say the previous version did better than the current 5.5.0. What’s your thoughts on this. I love all the Topez products! Love your videos, keep up the great service you do for us learners…..
Anthony, I can't seem to find a section in any of your Gigpixel videos that goes over entering a custom enlargement size...in particular, I don't know what to do with the "pixels per inch" box that shows up under width and height. What is this referencing...printer resolution????.....and how do I know what to put in here. I print on a high end Epson and always use the recommended resolution of 360 but can't find anything in Topaz documentation or elsewhere to explain this. Thanks!
Thanks for the quick review! I installed version 5.5 and started getting unexpected quits from Gigapixel. Didn’t have this issue with the previous version. I haven’t completed an image yet with 5.5 due to unexpected quits. App is quitting during creation of preview.
Speaking of compressed; assuming it's like the two Topaz programs I've paid for, it has no setting available for JPG saving. You get 75%. Period, no other option, full stop. If I had known that before I bought, I wouldn't have done it.
Thank you Anthony! I have a question; have you (or anyone on this comment section) tried the DNG export function yet on this latest version of Gigapixel? Earlier versions are producing unusable DNG files due to a severe change in output colours and contrasts. Has this been fixed, or not?
Thanks for you Video. Very nice and helpful. I agree it's a big improvement in this software. I'm just irritated with one topic. You told it can be used as a plugin in Photoshop, but I can't find it in Photoshop or to activate it as Plugin in the software itself. Could you give me a hint, where it's to find. Big thanks.!!!
Hey Anthony, is it better to do first the picture in gigapixel and then edit it in denoise or sharpen ai or edit first the picture and do gigapixel at last?
It just got slower, think before upgrade. I remember the original gigapixel could process low res JPEGs much faster, you could actually upscale a video sequence in a reasonable amount of time, now it takes forever.
downloaded the Mac version, completed installation and then stuck in first run at downloading optimised model and go no further. Mac version not useable at the moment.
I had a chance to buy a Topaz bundle around Thanksgiving or Christmas for $200 that included all of their products if I'm not mistaken. I wanted to buy it but I didn't. I'm sure I'll get another offer.

Just updated to 5.5.0 which looks good but it crashes frequently on my iMac - Mojave, unusable at the moment hope they fix it soon. Shame as the improvements look good.
I’m experiencing the same crash problems. On macbook pro, mojave. Can’t get the update to load, but it’s doing a very effective job of chrashing my mac (!).
There are quite a few people who are running High Sierra and Mojave who are experiencing the crashing problems. Over at the Topaz Labs forum, they have a Beta version up that works for me.
Thanks for the video Anthony. Starting to loose interest in Topaz since they want to keep changing the user interface on their apps and rename functions on the fly. Irritating to say the least. If Architectural is now Line why change the name at all.

Thanks, Anthony, but you should add that the software costs $99.99 per year. Updates after one year require payment. You might also add that Topaz is paying you. This information is kind of important. Please provide more examples that are not provided by Topaz.
I think this type of response is disingenuous at best and the type of attack that is unprofessional. You are questioning his integrity and it is best done through a private email. Recently, he ripped the same company for a poor update, which must have missed. I assume you can read the information about the software at the Topaz website and get the needed information. I will defend his integrity and I am not a personal friend nor have I ever met him. In short, he is not a shill for any company.
@@richbottarini86 Tony's interest is in seeing that people are educated and informed. So, why is it so difficult to provide that important information up front? The cost is something that everyone wants to know. Email? I tried that, politely for constructive criticism as well as complements. He doesn't answer private email.
Like most software Gigapixel is a perpetual licence so you don't have to update (your software keeps on working) if the update doesn't work for you. Topaz operate a better type of perpetual licence because whenever you choose to upgrade you get 12 months of upgrades even major version changes. Avoids the "I bought V2 three months ago and now they want more money for V3 and no updates for V2" issue. Software is always on sale, just have to pick your purchase date :-)
Rich Hughes: When Tony posts a video, his comment section includes links to his affiliation to each company and an ethics statement. He does not need to state it in each video. The sentence that I find offensive is the one where you state Topaz pays him. Yes he get some money if you use his promo code and purchase the product, otherwise he does not get any payment. This is all layed out in the links.
Sorry Rich, I have an email sitting in my inbox from you from March. I get around 50 emails a day and try to prioritize them. Since your email wasn't asking me a specific question -- you were thanking me for use of my discount code -- I put your email on the back burner to answer when I had time. As for Topaz Labs paying me -- they don't pay me to do these videos or review their product. I am an affiliate and if anyone clicks on the link I provide, I receive a 20% commission. If the person doesn't click on the link, even if they use my discount code, I don''t receive anything. I don't say the price of the software in the video because the price often changes and the pricing is different depending on what country you live in. So if I say it's $99 and it's $119 in Australia, in the past, that has caused confusion. I list all of my affiliations in my video descriptions which I don't see anyone else doing, I don't see any need to say it every time in a video. I try to be fair and unbiased in the videos even if I make money off the product through affiliations although, I'm the first to admit, that I'm human and subconsciously I may be overly optimistic at times. I've done Topaz Labs videos where I've said it wasn't very good. Case in point, when Sharpen AI first came out, I said it stunk. Again, sorry I didn't answer your email in a timely fashion -- answering email is time consuming and I've been a bit lazy lately. Also, for anyone else reading this, I don't often look at the comments in my videos -- 99.9% of the comments are positive but for every video I do, at least one is negative and my personality is, unfortunately, such that the negative comment really bothers me so much so it can get me depressed so, my faulty solution is to rarely look at the comments. So, if you've ever tried to communicate to me via the comment section of my videos, I apologize that you've been ignored. Hopefully I get over my issues as it pertains to the comment section.
