This is my favourite 50mm Leica lens. I use it on IIIc and M3 with the adapter. It's not "kind of" like Biotar. It's exactly the same as Biotar. The lens elements are arranged in the same way. I actually run the side by side comparison between Topcor-S and the 3rd version of Biotar and photos came out identical (other than slightly zoomed out this being 50 vs 58mm) Very very very different from Summicron.
@@Noealz I'm not sure if you mentioned it but one of the many reasons to like this lens is its very short focus throw. About a half of that of the Summicron and roughly 66 times shorter than on any version of the Biotar. 😂 Some might not like it but for me personally short focus throw is a blessing. Another thing worth mentioning is that there are 3 different versions of the Topcor-S. Full chrome version which is the earliest model. Then they made it in chrome with 2 black rings and then the final version (which you have) that's nearly all black sans few small bits. As far as I know the changes were mostly cosmetical so whatever version should produce similar results.
Like your channel very much…when you had the program about Topcon I found it very interesting…I have some old Topcon cameras and lenses on the shelf…my favorite is my Topcon 20 mm f4…a lens I haven’t seen often
I appreciate the comparison to the Auto Yashinon, which is my favorite 50mm. I was considering getting this too and to know that it is right in the same category of quality is valuable information. Also like you said, I didn't know much about Topcon/Exakta until recently. I was actually surprised that the lens performed as well as it did on a medium format camera! Thanks!
My pleasure, I love Topcor lenses - I have them on two of my mail cameras that I use :3 And it's on my medium format almost all the time, if I am not using the auto Yashinon =p
My local store that refurbishes and sell old camera gear has topcor lenses quite often. I think I've seen that specific one too but passed on buying it.
I absolutely love the way you shoot and edit. I’m going to try and emulate you when I finally get the chance. I might ask my wife if she will give me her 50D.
Got one and an adaptor for my Sony for a pretty decent price here, looks pretty good like the Nikkor F1.4 50mm I use. I'm kinda wondering what the chromatic aberration will be like, hows it shooting for daytime?
I usually shoot at night and haven't noticed any. And when I shoot during the day, I haven't noticed it yet since I mainly do scenic photos rather than close ups. And Since it is a rangefinder lens they tend to have further close focusing distance than usual lenses.,
May I ask a question that I can't find an answer to it? That is from the guy who made me aware of the source of the problem, the gorgeous wonderful but expensive Topcon and Topcore. *Is there any way (Easy direct from the market) to adapt a UV Topcor to today's mirrorless cameras, the way such adapters exist for RE? If not, what is the reason* ? (I suspect a shorter Flange distance but I could be totally wrong on this).
Interesting, I always thought that '5cm f2' were all copies of planar designs, similar to the yashinon. Is there a noticeable difference between the two? Great pics by the way 😯

@@Noealz haha sorry let me rephrase. I have the topcon 58 1.4, 58 1.8, the auto tak f2 and nikon hc 50 f2. Will i miss out by not getting this or is this a very different lens altogether? :)
It is an interesting lens but the images are out of focus on the sides. I am not sure if this is because you are using it on a medium format or if this is the lens design and intent. For neon signage probably a great thing. A.,
@@Noealz Personally I am surprised that the lens gives enough coverage for medium format... good to know. I know you hate "kit" videos but it is the unusual combo's and older stuff that introduces a little experimentation and financially affordable chance for people to play. Good as always. A.,
@@kingofkilps oh UV topcors are not as good as regular topcors and are too expensive to adapt, so I would just pass over them and get a Topcor-RE or Topcor-S : )

Loved hearing your perspective on this! Really enjoyed the video. (That B-Roll is very impressive!)

Thanks for this! Just won a 2 x Topcon R cameras with 58mm f1.8. I hadn’t heard of Topcon before the auction so am on a steep learning curve.
Very lucky! Have fun with them
@@Noealz Thank you! 🙏
So happy with this lens. I can't wait to use it more.
I am proud to spread the word of topcon :)
Thanks very much for bringing this to RUclips. I expect to get mine today, and will match it to my Tower 45 (without lens).
I think more people should be using them, they are really awesome lenses!
Interesting channel, and right up my street so to speak, just subscribed.
Love the moody street shots, love to see more of those.

Is this the predator of Topcon 53mm F/2 UV and if not, what is their relation? I assume S is older one but not sure.
I dont know : (

I think probably the biggest difference is the bubble bokeh. The Topcor has spiralish bokeh but Yashinon has some bubble bokeh :)

Great choice but at the same time, What a shame. LOL!
How close does it focus? I'm curious because rangefinder lenses usually need to stay quite far away form the subject
Yeah this one is no different actually! I think you need to be as far as a meter!
