Great review
Thank you!
I like the safety distance this lens provides between the photographer and the subject at 2:49 ! ;)
Haha! :)
Every time I enter your video, just like... entering a gallery, specially playing from a 4K resolution on 4K TV, so much pleasure. Thanks for the great work.
Thank you so much for your kind comment! Glad to hear that you enjoy the 4K quality!
This is the best review of photographic equipment I have ever seen. Cool presentation of the material, unique style and just generally cool work. We need new releases!
Thank you so much!
just got one of these lens for £20.00 mint condition . only draw back i have is the lens hood slips down . cant wait to try it out. many thanks for showing this on your vintage optics u tube channel
Wow, that's an amazing bargain! It's fantastic lens and I'm excited for you to try it!!
Thank you for this review! I bought this lens and it was amazing. F4 can be a little hard to focus perfectly but any F-stop higher than that would work well. Very good value considering its price and quality!
That’s really great to hear! I’m glad that you also think highly of this lens! It’s definitely amazing and very affordable. Enjoy it and happy shooting!
Amazing photos and a great indepth review. Thank you for your time and efforts
Thank you so much!!
Can't really believe, are they all YOUR PHOTOS?
If so you're just such a photographer I never met! So many excellent shots...
Yes they are all my photos. Thank you for your nice comment! I appreciate it.
Sold! Some of those wildlife shots were incredible!
Thank you!! It’s a fantastic lens for sure! Amazing deal for the kind of quality it delivers.
I own quite a few old OM lenses they are amazing.
I agree, Olympus made a ton of fantastic lenses for their OM system. Enjoy them!
I have this lens the MC version like your and love it. I picked mine up in 2015 for £60 in absolute mint condition with case & lens caps
Nice!! Isn’t it just amazing?! Such a spectacular lens. That’s awesome you got a mint copy for such a great price. Enjoy it!
This is a exceptional lens and great value for money
Agreed!
Thank you. Very nice video. 🙏
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Thank you for sharing this awesome review. Nice photos
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@VintageOptiks You're welcome
One of the beautiful, detailed review 👌
Thank you so much!!
Very nice photos and review
Thank you!!
I got this lens for 49€ in perfect condition and the OM to EF-M adapter for Canon. You should check out the 135mm version! I have a Soligor 135mm f2/8 and its really nice! Cool video, bro
That’s a great deal for this amazing lens! I hope you’ll enjoy using it. Glad you like the video. Thank you!
It's a good lens but I prefer its smaller brother Zuiko 200mm f5. That lens is much smaller, not much slower and the image quality is the same. That's one of the most compact 200mm lenses that I know of.
Yeah it’s another great Zuiko lens! I personally love the 200mm f4 because I prefer shallower depth of field. But if the size of the lens is more important to you then the 200mm f5 is definitely one of the smallest 200mm lenses out there.
@@VintageOptiks I had the F/5 during the 1970's on a Olympus OM1 but preferred the F/4
Agree, i have one... Excellent lens
Nice review! How this one compares to the Rokkor 200 f/3.5?
Thank you! This Zuiko lens is a more modern design with better coatings compared to the Rokkor 200mm f3.5 that I reviewed. It's also lighter and smaller. But the Rokkor is cheaper and still produces great results.
Very good lens, but I prefer the magic you showed using the Minolta Auto Tele Rokkor-QF 200mm f3.5, probably less resolution than the Olympus but I loved the colors and the vintage character of the Minolta. The MD 200 f4 Minolta is also a very good lens but like the Olympus it produces much more modern images probably due to the multi coating and a slightly different formula than the Rokkor f3.5.
I definitely agree! I also love the vintage character and colors form the Minolta QF 200mm f3.5! Amazing lens!
Amazing content you do man
Thank you very much!
Another hidden gem of a lens is Canon FDn 135/3,5. It is really very good and sells for almost nothing. I paid like $10 for a lens in good condition.
So slow though... when there are pretty cheap f2, 2.5, 2.8 alternatives
I have this one too. It is superb for portraits like the Tamron 90mm F2.5 macro.
I have the old FD... see my review... too good!
Excellent videos. I have this lens, too.
Thank you!
Can't help but wonder how it stacks up (because I have one) against the takumar 200mm f4. Great review!
Thank you! I haven’t tested the Takumar 200mm f4 yet! Need to get it sometime in the near future. How do you like it?
@@VintageOptiks I've only tested it on finches sitting on telephone wire, but it seems pretty sharp to me. I also just picked up the Takumar 300mm f4 which will get me closer still. I have no complaints with either of them but I would still love a set of the zuiko lenses!
@@seoulrydr Sounds good. Would love to try the 300mm f4 Takumar at some point. Yeah, Zuikos are quite special! I am excited to review more of them in the future.
Going to binge watch this channel then binge shop on ebay
Sounds good! 😁
@@VintageOptiks Any recommendations for a vintage lens for macro photography?
Oh, I see all your videos on macros now haha
The Tokina ATX 90mm macro is amazing! One of my favorites! If you want the option for true 1:1 magnification make sure you get one with the 1:1 extender.
@@VintageOptiks I appreciate all this info, super helpful! How do you think the Tokina would perform compared to the (modern) Tamron 90MM F2.8. It's $100 cheaper. I'm about to buy the Tokina but was just curious what you think.
Very nice video ! thx! I wanna ask for 1 thing, I have a E zuiko MC 200 f4, but, it doesn't change the aperture when I turn the ring, ONLY when its on B mode, have to press the shutter down, then I can change the aperture, my body is OM1n, I don't know know why it is like this, its really hard to choot... do you happen to know this situation what is causing that?
Which manufacturer is the helicoid adapter from? I'm looking for something like this for Minolta MD lenses on MFT camera ...
Hi, unfortunately there is no brand name on the Helicoid. It just says OM-NEX/M (which stands for Olympus OM to Sony E/ Macro). Not sure if they make them for MFT. I found mine on eBay
Another nice review with photos. How do you feel it compared with the Nikkor 200 and the Nikkor 80-200 you reviewed earlier?
Thank you! For me all 3 lenses are stellar performers! They are all sharp and produce great images. This Zuiko is the lightest of the three and is slightly better when it comes to controlling chromatic aberrations. But you can’t go wrong with either of them! They are all great! This lens is yet another affordable option for people looking for excellent vintage telephoto lenses.
Wow, build quality looks even nicer than the Nikon 200 4. Hood looks like it's a little deeper than the Nikon. Not sure I need both, at $50 it's tempting
I agree! The build quality of all OM Zuiko lenses I've tried is simply impeccable! The Nikkor 200mm f4 is also a great lens, but this one has a bit more magic. :)
@@VintageOptiks this is a dangerous place to hang out! Thanks to Redsphoto below I'm seriously considering the f5. Now I need an on adapter 😂
Haha 😂. Sorry 😬
I have several 135mm manual focus lenses... They are all pretty good lenses and I have paid as little as $11.00 USD for my Sears Auto 135mm f/2.8...
That’s great! What a bargain for the Auto Sears 135mm f2.8!! There are a lot of really good vintage 135mm lenses out there. I love trying them out.
Do you have Zeiss rollei f4? Or contax?
No, not yet.
Thanks for great tip!!. ... would you compare this one to Nikkor ED 180mm f2.8 reviewed previously? Which one would you recommend more?
You are welcome. Well, the ED Nikkor 180mm f2.8 is a faster lens which has an extra low dispersion element, so it will not be a fare comparison. The Nikkor is much heavier and costs a lot more too. But if the price and the weight are not a problem for you and you only want one lens in this focal length, then go with the Nikkor.
Have you tried the Olympus 75-150 f4.0? One recently came my way and I haven’t tested it yet.
I love the OM system. It’s the 35mm I shot in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Picked up an OM-1 at an estate sale, and the 75-150 was part of the package. 😁
No I haven’t tried it yet. I would love to test it at some point. I quite enjoy vintage zooms. I love the OM system as well. Olympus made such amazing lenses back then!
@@VintageOptiks, I just did a few shots with it using Kodachrome 64 (yes, I said that correctly) and am curious of the results. I’ll need to get an OM to FX adaptor to try it on my Fujifilm camera.
Developing the K64 today… wish me luck!
That’s great you are using it with film! Wish I can see the results. Would love to hear your thoughts once you develop the roll. Good luck! 👍
@@VintageOptiks, I’ve done it once before, hopefully this time will be better.

Sir: Please a quick question. I’ve Canon T71 What adapter I need with this lens? Thanks in advance for your answer
Hello. To mount this lens on your Canon, you’ll need an Olympus OM to Canon EF adapter.
@@VintageOptiks A big THANKS for your answer my dear Teacher
You are welcome.
i’m having difficulties in choosing, I already have the 80-200mm f4 nikon, but is it better to buy this Olympus 200mm f4? Orrrr nikon 200mm f4 orrr keep my GAS down 😂
Haha, it's tough keeping that GAS down. :) The advantages of the Olympus prime is that it's small and compact and lightweight compared to your zoom. It's handy if you want to take it on a trip or a hike. But if you don't need a smaller and lighter 200mm lens, your 80-200mm zoom will serve you well. Cheers!
I have Olympus M-1 made in 1971 & sold only 5000 copies, sold only in Japan, and I have the equivalent version of this lens. It says; "Olympus M-System E.Zuiko Auto-T 1:4 f = 200mm 103052. Japan" .
That's great!
What do you think about the Zuiko 400mm f6.3 ?
I haven’t tried it yet, but would love to review it sometime in the future.
Wow That is a beast of a lens. I have the 300mm F/4.5 and love that one too. I paid £150 5 years ago for a mint example and would never sell it. The 400mm F/6.3 is huge
@@life107familyfitnessboxing8 No it’s not. The 350mm F2.8 is huge. 😉
Lovely video. Darn you've made me want to take out my copy out for a walk. It's just been collecting dust. I'm keeping an eye out for its f/5 sibling as that one is even smaller.
It's a lot heavier and about 3-5 times the cost but if you ever find one for not too much, I think the Zuiko 180 2.8 is a pretty rad lens too
Thank you! Yeah take it out for a walk! It’s such a great lens! I haven’t tried it’s sibling the f5 version yet, but I’ve read that it’s really tiny for a 200mm lens! The 180mm f2.8 is on my wish list - would love to get one!
I have that one too and love it. I use it on my GH5s
wow
Thank you!
$289 in 1979 is worth over $1200 in today's money. A lot of money printing going on over the years.
Yeah it’s wild what some of these vintage lenses used to cost. Thankfully the prices for many excellent old lenses are much lower nowadays.

Looks mine wanted to make the Vietnam war, and just could make it.
The bokeh looks .... meh - see the shot with the bust in the video at time index 4:28 ...
so for my canon eos rp i need an RF to EF adapter and an OM to EF adapter on top?
You can use an Olympus OM to Canon RF adapter. There is a company named Urth that makes one.
Ok nice. Thank you!!
