- In this short 3 hour session I gave the new Savage Gear SG8 Baitcaster a test on a small stillwater
Turned out to be an epic 3 hour session with 8 Pike caught!
First impressions of the reel 👌, fantastic bit of kit!
Thanks for watching and please don't forget to subscribe ☺️

Got to love SavageGear. Love all they’re gear over the years and now they go and bring out reels. Best start saving for a new Pike baitcaster.
Yea they have really upped their game in the last few years, some real quality gear. The new Baitcasting reels are not as expensive as you might think 👌
@@castnorthangling5964 that’s what I was hoping.
Been watching the marketing for this reel and boom, you're out catching them for fun all morning on it. Great session & video !!
Thanks mate, have to say it's a super little bit of kit!
That army green combo looks very mean 🤝
Yea totally agree, something snazzy about it
😂😂😂 "this is the last cast"... Then another one, and another one 😂😂😂. I'm doing the same thing.. Keep casting and delay my leaving 😂😂
Nice video.. Well done
Haha every time, not sure why I even bother saying it!
That's great few hours fishing. How did you drag yourself off the bank 🤣 they were having everything you threw at them. really cracking mornings fun.👍 Setup looks really good. Definitely one to consider. 👍
Unfortunately I had the kids in the afternoon so I had no choice, it's always the way!
I have a couple of Savage Gear's earlier baitcasting rods in different casting weights. The Butch Lights. Not the XLNT version the older ones with duplon handles. Very nice rods for the price. I pair them with the original Abu Revo STX. Quieter than your reel but it cost a fortune at the time.
Nice days fishing by the way!
Class mate some cracking catches, some spot that looks too
Thanks mate, hope your enjoying the videos
Great video, enjoyed it. I've just started Pike fishing properly. I've only ever caught a few Jacks messing around since I first started fishing in my teens. I bought a cheap Abu Garcia Ultra Light rod & reel for Perch recently and caught a 20lb 7oz Pike on the canal near me on a 10g lure. Obsessed now with lure fishing. Never used a baitcaster. Should I get one? Maybe a medium to heavy rod + reel? Cheers.
Un verdadero espectáculo 🤙🏻siempre captura y suelta un gran saludo
Great videos .👍🙂
Thanks mate. Appreciate your support
niceone simon good stuff
Thanks mate
What rod would you ideally pair the sg8 with? I'm looking at trying a baitcaster setup next year once the Christmas is over!
Personally I think the SG4 20-60g or the 40-80g
Both 7.3ft
Infact I will probably pair the reel with one of them myself 👌
What's the casting weight of that Rod Simon? Need something for lighter work, that looks about right.
It's 14-40g mate but it's a fairly tough set up, can candle plenty more than 40g. Lovely rod
What was the first lure you were using what weight and size looking to order some seem to be working well
19cm Goby Shad, check out my own Lures called Snaker Shads, very similar movement to the Goby but handmade custom Lures by myself.

Good couple of hrs crack 👌
Thanks mate
you are using braided line or mono ? I have problem with braided line on my baitcaster when im spooling new line on my reel it just looks terrible maybe im spooling it wrong ?
Congrats for the video, man!!
Please what rod is it?
I need a new reel and rod and I like your combo!!.
thank you so much!!.
Bravo 👍👍👍👍
Thanks buddy 👍
I just bought a SG2 7,3 Foot 80G baitcasting rod.
Would it be fine for swimbaits on 50-60g?
Yea perfect 👌
Thanks for the quick answer mate 😃👍
Class looking reel. What length is the SG4 rod? I am looking at a 130g 7'3" SG4 big bait specialist. Do you think that would be a good length. I don't like a long rod and would be using it on boat and bank.
7.3ft is perfect, especially when fishing from the boat. I much prefer a shorter rod
Cheers thanks 👍
Nice sound on it, but cant even compare it to the cs rocket tho. Such a nice sound. What cast weight would you say on that reel? Looks about size with revo beast dosent it?
It's size 2500, should cast up to 100g with ease to be fair
@@castnorthangling5964 awsome. It looks nice. Might have to look into one. Im after one to use with frogs, revo is a tad to big so now im using a shimano scienna 1000. Got home a ambassadeur 6500 CS rocket, and damn its a good reel if you wana cast far. First cast with a westin swim 12cm it ended up in a tree 150 meters away on opposit bank 😂😂
How well does it compare to the Shimano Curado 150 MGL if you have any experience with that
It's hard to compare any reels to shimano, they are top of the market and have been for a number of years. What I will say that the Savage Gear baitcaster (for a first attempt) is a super reel, great build quality and super smooth. I have enjoyed working with it so far
@@castnorthangling5964 I understand what you’re saying. I only asked because in the states those reels are the same price. The Curado K is $10 less.
To be honest Never understund Test more when 60 gramm rod 🙈 peeople take out 5Kg pike on Light rods whare test is max 13gramm Then i think 20-60g Savage baitcast its best what can be… But its only my think about. If im not right tell me about :)
I got 1 of those goby shads and I can c y u love them
I have loads of thel lol, just had the one with me that day
Them hering shads work well
What rod are you using?
Whats your rod mate? SG4 fast game bc? 60 or 80 grams?
What size reel is this please
2500
Can this reel replace my Okuma Komodo SS 364 ,on my SG4 Powergame 80-130grams?
Or its smaller size baitcaster ?
I feel this reel would be too small, when the bigger model comes then absolutely
What lure's are you using?
Savage Gear Pike shad
Can’t find that reel to buy anywhere? Where did you buy it?
It's not out to the public until January...
@@castnorthangling5964 ahhh ok, thanks for the info.
Won't be long till their out 💪
@@castnorthangling5964 any idea what prices we’ll be looking at?
For this model I think around £180
Nice ! Can you tell me cw your rod !??
5-20g
Far too light for this style of fishing but I had 40lb mono on to keep it right
@@castnorthangling5964 thx bro mery x mass!
Same to you mate
@@castnorthangling5964 20?! How it is even possible, your lures is way above 50g as far I can see
Yes they are not matched up, my plan wasn't to cast Lures as heavy but unfortunately I did not have the right equipment. The rod held up no issues
How far u can get in meters with the sg8?
Why mono though?
No reason, just gave it a try
What lure was he using to catch his first couple fish does anyone know the name?
The one that got the tail bitten off
Savage Gear Goby Shad in spotted bullhead pattern
Thanks so much for coming back to an old vid and replying just earned multiple subs
That set looks more like a firearm
what is the weight of your baits?
Что трудно ответить урюк? Ещё раз спрашиваю какого веса приманки используешь с этой катушкой?
@@sergeilobanov5588 Those baits are about 50-60 gr (4D perch, goby, 3D pike). I think this lures weigh too much to 14-40 g rod but it seems to me the rod can handle this.
However, the apricot was a bit strong, mate.
Great session, Well done. Were just getting the Savage SG8 baitcasters in Aus now, I did a lot of the testing for the SG8 Spin reels here before they went to market. Looks like a great session. Were you using the Savage 1dfr stealth baitcaster rod in this vid as I just got my hands on the 7 foot 4-7kg version and was wondering if you were using that or the 7,2 6-10kg version. Anyway great vid, I've subbed, and hope ya can check out my stuff on the SG8 stuff aswell
Not much of a fight of any of them pike
No not at all, 40lb mono and a tight clutch, they didn't have to power to go anywhere. Only Jack's 👌
@@castnorthangling5964 No Drag clicker? Or you didnt use it?
What size is your baitcaster @castnorthangling
What size reel is that mate
250
Cheers mate what gear ratio did you go for?
